Sea urchins (海胆) are small creatures, but what's really remarkable abut them is that they eat anything that happens t flat by. They have really sharp teeth they use t rid rcks f algae (海藻), which makes them pretty valuable especially in places like Hawaii where algae are threatening the cral reefs. In the summer f 2019, 500,000 f them were used t deal with the algae.
The prblem started when nn-native algae were intrduced t the ecsystem f Kanehe Bay in the 1970s. Because they had n enemies, they ended up taking ver the bay, accrding t the Natinal Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The algae prevented sunlight frm reaching the cral, which in turn affected the lcal fish because they changed the chemistry f the water.
