Have you ever seen an "ugly" oyster(牡砺)? That is the term oyster farmers use for the sea animals when their shells are too large to sell to seafood restaurants. Each year, farmers keep oysters in right size so people at restaurants will enjoy eating than. If they get too big, restaurants no longer want to buy them. So last year, when many seafood restaurants in the US closed due to COVID-19, oyster farmers lost the chance to sell their product. Suddenly, they had a lot of "ugly" oysters and it was difficult to deal with them.
That was a big problem until a conservation program came to the rescue. The program is called Supporting Oyster Aquaculture and Restoration, or SCAR. It is buying more than 5 million oysters at the cost of about 2 million dollars from farmers on the cast coast of the US and in Washington State.
Living oysters that are too big to sell are sent back to water areas like the Great Bay in the northeastern state of New Hampshire. They are placed in the water in special locations called reefs. Once they attach to the structures in the water, they can live for a number of years. They help create a good environment for other sea life. The hope is that the oysters will help clean the sea water and also have babies.
Lisa Calvo runs Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm in southern New Jersey. She said the program made her business get through the difficult time and "stay afloat".
Calvo started her farm about 20 years ago. She sells her oysters to restaurants close to Philadelphia. Pennsylvania, and those in the towns along the ocean in New Jersey. Oysters are ready to sell when they are about two years old. She said, "When all the restaurants started closing, I was in a panic." She was able to earn about half the usual amount of money by selling her oysters to the program. "Half a loaf is better than no bread," she added.
28. Which is the characteristic of "ugly" oysters?
A. Large size. B. Rich meat. C. Round shape. D. High price.
29. Why are "ugly" oysters put back into the water according to paragraph 3?
A. To help them grow smaller. B. To offer food to other sea life.
C. To prevent them from increasing rapidly. D. To improve the eco-environment of the sea.
30. What does the underlined phrase "stay afloat" in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Go down. B. Leave off. C. Break up. D. Carry on.
31. Which phrase can express the program's effect on Calvo's business?
A. It is better than nothing. B. Every coin has two sides.
C. It's no use pumping a dry well. D. Failure is the mother of success.
D
A group of researchers have advised that throwing a great deal of salt into the atmosphere should slow down climate change because salt is highly reflective and it can reflect sunlight back into outer space, helping to cool the earth. But other climate scientists are not sure. This idea fall into the category of geoengineering-a deliberate, large-scale attempt to change the environment as a means to fight climate change.
"It's an interesting idea," Michael Mann, a professor at Penn State, told Live Science. "However, though potentially appealing at the surface, most of these geoengineering plans are seen to be filled with potential unintended consequences when you look at them in more detail."
Science magazine has reported that the "salty" suggestion is to meet climate change in case humans fail to greatly lower greenhouse gas emissions, such as CO2, which are contributing to the earth's rising temperatures. The idea is to throw salt into the upper troposphere (对流层), the atmosphere layer most commercial airplanes fly over because of its weather conditions and clouds.
The idea was put forward, in part, by Robert Nelson, a senior scientist at the Planetary Science Institute, whose scientists study planetary systems, including the solar system.
Their suggestion is hardly the first geoengineering idea out there. Other scientists have considered injecting tiny particles into the stratosphere-the region above the troposphere, as a way to cool the planet. In effect, the particles could cool the planet after a volcanic eruption. For instance, Live Science previously reported a series of big eruptions from the Icelandic volcano Eldgju from AD 939 to AD 940 led to one of the coldest summers the northern Hemisphere had experienced in 1,500 years.
32. Why has salt been advised for the project?
A. It cools down rapidly. B. It is effective in reflecting sunlight.
C. It can stay in space for a long time. D. It can release a great deal of energy.
33. What is Michael Mann's attitude towards Robert Nelson's idea?
A. Doubtful. B. Rude. C. Appreciative D. Confident.
34. Why are big eruptions from the Icelandic volcano Eldgju mentioned?
A. To calculate the amount of CO2.
B. To present the danger of big eruption.
C. To show the cooling effect of some particle.
D. To research the formation of warm summers.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. A cause of climate change. B. A plan to reduce greenhouse gas.
C. An idea intended to cool the earth. D. An introduction to weather conditions.

As a senior teacher in primary school, I deal with countless lovely children to help them learn and live, especially to help children deal with their parents. My experience over the years tells me not to be impatient in case of trouble. Think twice before you act. We must firmly believe that children have a kind heart.
The following is a real big story that happened in my clans not long ago.
Katie was in trouble. She was such a sweet kid. A third-grade teacher always dreamed of having a classroom filled with students like Katie. She was never ever a discipline problem. I just couldn't imagine why she had made her parents so angry. Her parents complained to me anxiously and urgently asked me to tell the truth and give her a lesson.
It seemed that Katie had been spending a lot of money in the lunchroom. Her parents explained that Katie brought a great home-made lunch every day, and there was no reason for her to buy school lunch. They assumed a sit-down with Katie would solve the problem, but failed. So they asked me to help them get to the bottom of this situation. I comforted them and thought about how to get in touch with Katie.
So the next day, I asked Katie to my office. "Why are you spending much money on lunch, Katie? What happened to your home-made lunch?" I asked. "I lost it," she responded. I leaned back in my chair and said, "I don't believe you, Katie." She didn't care. "Is someone stealing your lunch, Katie?" I took a new track. "No. I just lost it," she said. Well, there was nothing else I could do.
The problem was still unsolved the next week when I noticed a boy who was new to the school sitting alone at a lunch table. He always looked sad. I thought I would go and sit with him for a while. As I walked towards him, I noticed the lunch bag on the table.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The name on the bag read "Katie".
I told Katie's parents the truth in secret.
