5W(what, who, when, where, why)要素。
特别是解答推论或暗指类的题目,比如“What can be inferred from …?”或是What does the author imply in…?”

It's late evening in the middle of the winter. The snow is deep, but off I go into the wild.
Suddenly I hear it: the howl(嚎叫)of wolves. Excitedly, I walk faster in the direction of the howling.
I've been working as a volunteer wolf tracker in Yellowstone National Park for over a year It's my job to follow wolves to record information about them. Like wolves, however, I don't work alone. I'm one of a team of people who have been in a project to help reintroduce wolves to the park.
Humans have always feared wolves. From fairy tales to movies, the wolf is always the bad guy —a danger to humans and other animals. In the 1920s, the organizers of the park shared this view about wolves and made the decision to drive them away from the park. As a result, the number of elk (麋鹿)in the park increased. The elk started looking for food near river banks since they didn't have to worry about wolves. This, in turn, stopped trees from growing along the rivers, doing great harm to the environment there.
The return of wolves has already made a big difference. To begin with, the elk soon learned to stay away from the rivers, so new trees have been able to grow there. The trees become home to new wildlife, such as birds, and provide food for more animals.
The park is now becoming more and more popular with those who want to see wolves in their natural environment. It has also helped the local people make more money. Tourists visit the area, stay in the local hotels, and eat in the local restaurants.
Looking at the wild animals and the beautiful sceneries around me, I am amazed at the changes the wolf has made to Yellowstone. And happily, it is playing a good guy in this story.

    A. catch wolves in the park B. feed wolves in the wild

    A. The wolves were always howling at night.
    B. The elk in the park were in danger of dying out.
    C. The wolves had done great harm to the environment.
    D. The park was thought to be unsafe with wolves around.
    3. Paragraphs 4 and 5 are mainly about the _______ that wolves have brought to Yellowstone.
    A. risks B. troubles C. changes D. competitions
    4. What does the writer mean by the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
    A. Wolves are important to Yellowstone. B. Yellowstone has been home to wolves.
    C. The wolf and the elk live in peace now. D. The number of wolves is growing fast.

故选A。

When Jason’s parents saw him for the first time, they were shocked. This lovely little baby with shining blue eyes and curly hair was born disabled. Jason’s arms are just half without hands and his legs aren’t fully grown either. But soon the young couple accepted this fact. They even forgot to think of him as disabled.
At the age of six, he told his mother he wanted to get down from the prosthetics (假肢) and play with other kids. This was the last time Jason had worn them. He now has an electric wheelchair, but he never uses it at home or when it is easy for him to move using only his body.
Jason learned handwriting and coloring at school, holding the pen between the ends of his arms. He also learned to eat with forks at home. When he was ten, he fell in love with football. He never had a pair of shoes in his life because of the shape of his feet. He only wore socks on the football field. He never won a match, but he refused to give up. His strong arms and body, as well as some fantastic ways made him a respected player on the school team. He went to a famous university after high school.
Now Jason still faces many hardships in life, but he will make you believe that you can do what he has done.
"Never be afraid of any difficulty", Jason often encourages others in his speeches.
    1. Why were Jason’s parents shocked when they saw him for the first time?

I graduated from college recently and moved to Washington by myself. While I was in college, it was really easy to meet new people. But "out in the real world", I was finding it really hard. I live in a big city, and it seems like everyone around me is busy or already has all the friends they want. I was feeling so discouraged(沮丧的) and I didn’t know what to do, so I called my sister for some advice.
My sister is five years older than I am, so she’s been through all this already. She’s been helping me with my problems all my life. When I explained my problem, she understood completely. She said, "Why don’t you try meeting people online?"
"Online? Are you kidding?" I asked. "A friend of mine chatted with a guy online, and when she finally met him face to face, he was nothing like what he said."
My sister laughed. "You don’t have to look for dates online," she said. "But you can find other people like you—people who have just moved to town and want to make some new friends. When I first moved to New York after college, I found a book club and a football team online. I met a lot of people that way."
"But you don’t even like football!" I said.
"I know," she replied. "But that didn’t matter. I still bad a lot of fun. You played volleyball in college. Why don’t you look for a volleyball team to join? Or an art class?"
"Yeah! I saw a website about volunteering the other day." I said. "I could volunteer for an organization here in Washington. I bet I could meet a lot of really nice people that way."
"Good idea!" my sister answered excitedly. "Hey, you might even meet the perfect guy."
"OK, now you’re starting to sound like Mom," I said. "Thanks a lot for the advice. I’m going online right now. I’ll let you know what happens. Will you be home tonight?"

People say laughter is the best medicine, but sometimes too much of a good thing may not be so good. What happened to me last night made me deeply understand the meaning of that.
Last night I was alone at home. When I was watching a funny movie, I suddenly started laughing and couldn't stop myself.
At first, I was feeling good.
But after about 5 minutes, I came to know I wasn't going to stop at all. I began to feel a little worried.
Time for bed. But I couldn't sleep because I kept laughing. So I got up and started doing some housework. I cleaned my apartment, laughing hard. I washed all the dishes left over from dinner, still laughing crazily. I tried to hold my cat in my arms, but it ran away from me in fear. I spent the rest of the night in front of my computer, of course, still laughing.
When time finally came to get ready for work, I realized that I simply couldn't go to the office like that. I decided to call my boss for leave, but laughing was the only thing I could do on the phone.

Kathy could still remember the night she had to leave her home in Hungary. It was the beginning of World War II and her family had to leave their country as soon as possible. She quickly filled a bag with a few pieces of clothing, her diary, and her treasure—a beautiful silk scarf.
Kathy and her best friend, Monica, had asked their parents to buy them matching scarves. They each would wear the scarves as a symbol of their friendship. Kathy had no idea that she was going to America that night and would not be returning.
Kathy kept that special silk scarf for many years. One day she decided to give it to her granddaughter, Eliza, to wear to her first job interview for good luck. Kathy was afraid that Eliza would lose the scarf, but the granddaughter promised, "Don’t worry, Grandma, nothing’s going to happen to your scarf. You’ll see. It is going to bring both of us luck today." And with that, Eliza kissed her grandmother and left for the interview.
That afternoon Eliza left the interview, feeling sure that she had got the job. So she decided to celebrate by going to a restaurant. As she was sitting at her table, she felt someone looking at her. Sitting next to her was an old woman, who could not take her eyes away from her.

“This is John,” said Mr Turner. The boy standing next to him was tall, with a friendly face. I noticed Adam and Chen give each other the thumbs (大拇指) up. That meant they were going to invite him to join the cool group. They smiled at him and he smiled back.
Mr Turner always gave new students a buddy with the same hobbies as them. I was sure he wouldn’t choose me. I wasn’t one of the cool kids.
“Hyun, I want you to be John’s buddy this term,” said Mr Turner. Me? I couldn’t believe my ears! Everyone in the class looked in my direction. Adam and Chen even looked unhappy.
John walked over to my desk and sat down beside me. He smiled at me. “Hello,” he said in a confident voice.
“Hello,” I replied, not looking at him.
All morning I could feel the boys in the cool group looking angrily at me, but John didn’t seem to notice.

I remember a time I went shopping on my first visit to Hongkong. Coming from cold and cloudy England, I prepared for the sun and dressed in a T-shirt and a short skirt. Not having many chances to enjoy the sun in the UK, my legs were very white. In the UK, this is not a fashionable look at all. Most women spend every sunny day out in the sun trying to get darker skin. The darker the skin is, the better the look is. I have tried to get darker but nothing works for me!
As I walked around one shop, two shop girls didn’t take their eyes off me the whole time, talking quietly to each other in Chinese. I began to feel uncomfortable and asked my friend if we could leave. After we left the shop, she asked me what was wrong. I complained(抱怨) about the shop girls being very rude and always looking at my legs. I was embarrassed that they were talking about my white skin. My friend laughed, “they weren’t laughing at you. They were saying how nice your legs are. Many Chinese women want to have white skin like yours. In fact, there are many beauty products in the shops to make skin white and a lot of money is spent on them."
It just goes to show that we are never happy with what we have. The grass is always greener on other side. If the woman of the west and east thought the same way, western women wouldn’t spend so much money on cream that makes skin darker and women from the east wouldn’t need to use cream that makes skin whiter.
    1. The writer had white legs because __________.
    A. She spent so much money on her legs
    B. She lived in a cold and cloudy country
    C. She wanted them to be white
    D. She didn’t like dark skin
    2. What does the underlined (划线的) word in the first paragraph mean in Chinese?
    3. How do you understand the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
    A. People are always happy with what they have.

    C. People in the west have the best skin.
    D. People are always unhappy with what they have.

I had the meanest(最刻薄的)mother in the world. While other kids ate candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal(谷类食物)and eggs. When others had Coke and candy for lunch, I had to eat a sandwich. But at least I wasn't alone. My sister and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did.

Last year, I went to Italy as an exchange student. Before leaving, I asked my mother what gifts I should take to the teachers and the students there. Mom said that the Chinese fan was a good choice, for China is praised as "the Fan Kingdom". I couldn't agree more, because it is more than a tool for cooling. As for the boys, I picked the folding fans from Rongchang, a place in the west of Chongqing. The folding fans were made of paper and bamboo and there were great paintings and calligraphy(书法)on them.

It was last January, when I’d just finished a charity(慈善) and was on the train back home, that I put down my phone and started writing thank-you notes to people who had helped.
When I got off the train, I felt amazingly good. The next day, I wrote more thank-yous and the same feeling of happiness hit me again. I suddenly had the idea: Why not keep on doing this for every day of the year?
To keep on task, I decided to pick out a different theme for each month. January was charity.
February would be neighbors, I decided. And I thought of a number of names right away: the owner of our local bookstore, who let me and my little son in before the store opened and offered to play his favorite songs; our babysitter, who dropped off a bag of old board games for our kids to play; …
While writing the notes, I realized how often I had spent my time on the phone moving from app to app, appreciating(欣赏) other people’s lives. Writing thank-you notes allowed me the time to do something different, paying more attention to my own life.
In the following months, I wrote to my friends, doctors, teachers and parenting role models. In July, my “food” month, I wrote to Julie, who used to cook at my favorite restaurant. It went like this:
    Dear Julie,
I’ve been finding myself missing you lately. Thank you for hosting and cooking beautiful and thoughtful food. Jake and I will never forget when you sent out biscuits shaped into the number VI for our sixth anniversary We talk about it every year.
    Thank you. We miss you.
    Love,
    Gina
I was happy to receive a note back from her. Julie replied, “I don’t think I’ve ever received such a touching letter before. I’m going through a hard time right now, and this helps.”
On December 31, I wrote my last card — to Jake, my husband, and our two kids. And I took a picture of us, so I could remember the feeling welling up inside me. Gratitude.

She made up her mind to find them. Finally, she found their home. To enter, she needed a special key made from a chicken bone, which she did not have. The girl thought for a moment, and then took a knife and cut off one of her fingers. With it, she opened the front door and went inside. On a table, there were seven plates and seven cups. She ate and drank a little from each of them. In the last cup, she accidently dropped a ring that her parents had given her.
Later hat day, the ravens returned for their meal. The girl hid behind the door and watched. When the seventh raven drank from his cup, something hit his mouth. The raven recognized it at once—it was his parents' ring. "I wish our sister were here, "he said, "and then we could be free. " At that moment, their sister ran to them, and suddenly the ravens were human again. The brothers kissed their sister and all eight of them went home together happily.

根据短文第一段“Once there, though, the boys began to fight and the water jug (壶) fell
into the well. The boys looked into the well and thought of their father. They were afraid to go home.”
根据短文第二段“The father was shocked. "What have I done? he thought. But it was too
late. He could not take back his words.” 故选A。
根据短文第三段“On a table, there were seven plates and seven cups. She ate and drank
a little from each of them”可知,女孩进到哥哥们的家里后,桌子上有七个盘子和七个杯子,她从每个里面吃了一点、喝了一点。故选A。
根据短文最后一段“The raven recognized it at once—it was his parents' ring. "I wish our
sister were here, "he said, "and then we could be free. " At that moment, their sister ran to them, and suddenly the ravens were human again.”
    5.D【解析】推理判断题。A“不要和陌生人说话”;B“努力工作你就会快乐的”;C“你的父母总是最清楚的”;
    D“仔细考虑说什么”。根据文意可知,故事中父亲一时生气,说让儿子们变成乌鸦,没想到他们真的变成了乌鸦,最后女儿长大后,又把哥哥们变成了人。D选项符合文意,故选D。
