All of us in Monte Vista Christian Schoolknow we’ll one day have graduation photos for the yearbook taken. As the time approaches, the girls start to have a discussion about what they’ll wear and where to take the photos, while the boys, by comparison, hardly talk about it. As for me, I arranged for my photos to be taken by the sea.
When I arrived there, I met my photographer, Annie. She asked me to make some poses and I followed her advice. After that, I asked if she could make me look taller by takings photo in a different way, since I’m less than 1.6 meters tall. To my astonishment she responded, “I will make no attempt to make you look like someone you’re not. You look good in your own way.” She added that she wouldn’t try to edit the photos either.
I was shocked by what she said. Girls always desire to look perfect by using different visual angles. When you go to a photo studio, photographers always try to hide your imperfections by telling you to stand in a certain way. And picture editors can easily transform your look by making you appear any you want to. However, that’s not the case here. Seeing I was confused, Annie explained, “Everyone has his uniqueness. You need to admire your own beauty. You cannot live in a world of artificial photos.”
It was the first time that I had met a photographer who doesn’t polish photos at all. After the shoot, I saw the photos — they are truly special and natural. But what’s even more special are Annie’s words, which will always stay in my heart.
21.Why did the students want to have their photos taken?
    A. Because they themselves couldn’t make perfect poses.
    B. To make them look more beautiful in the photos.
    C. Because of a book published annually by the graduating class.
    D. Because they will graduate soon.
    22. How did the author’s attitude towards the photographer, Annie change?
    A. From being angry to being shocked.
    B. From being shocked to being disapproval.
    C. From being angry to being admirable.
    D. From being shocked to being approval.
    23. According to this passage, which of the followings can be predicted?
    A. The author will have her photos taken by Annie only.
    B. The author will never hide her imperfections in her photos.
    C. The author will have her photos taken in a natural way.
    D. The author will have her photos taken in a special way.
    B
Living on the ground floor of a dormitory has certain advantages over living on the top floor. On the ground floor, everything is readily accessible. You can come in and out as often as you like, whereas on the top floor you always have those long flights of stairs between you and your destination. On the ground floor you’re directly at the center of things, while on the top floor you’re somewhat isolated. On the ground floor, you meet new people and will probably do activities with them. On the top floor, you have just a few people on your floor, and if they are not your kind of people, you can be quite lonely. Also, if you are a bike rider like me, you can wheel your bike into your room downstairs, whereas on the top floor you have to dismantle it, bang it up the stairs, or more likely, make other arrangements for locking it up somewhere.
The disadvantages of living downstairs may convince you that living upstairsis a more agreeable way to live on campus. There is constant traffic downstairs, while upstairs see nobody who doesn’t come up for a special purpose. Downstairs is constant noise from conversations, passers-through, and ever-lasting interruptions for information: “Did you see Amelia?” “Which room is Twitch Laski in?” “Do you happen to know where we sign up for the room lottery?” In your downstairs room you can hear the gate slamming all night, while upstairs you can’t hear it all. Your bathroom downstairs will be visited by many strangers, while upstairs you and your roommates will have privacy. If you are interested in aesthetics(美学), forget a downstairs room. Upstairs your view is wide open. Your eyes can move from the quad out to the foothills of the mountains, and take in the beauty of the seasons.

    24. If you live downstairs, you have the following advantages except _______.
    A. you have easy access to everything.
    B. you know what’s going on, you meet new people.
    C. you will be bothered by constant interruptive noise.
D.you put away you bike conveniently.
    25. Which is the following phrases is the closest to the meaning of the underlined word“dismantle”?
    A. to end a system gradually in an organized way
    B. to take apart a machine or structure so that it is in separate pieces
    C. to pull or knock down a building
    D. to destroy something accidentally
    26. Which of the following persons is the most suitable to live on the top floor?
    A. A shyart-specialized student
    B. An adaptable new-comer
    C. A sociable party girl
    D. A dynamic monitor

    C

Huawei has launched its foray(突袭,进军)into foldable smart phones, with the Huawei Mate X officially revealed at Mobile World Congress 2020 in Barcelona, Spain as a competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Fold.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold announcement isn’t even a week old yet, and we already have a competitor that is thinner, has a bigger screen, and folds flatter. The company’s CEO of consumer business, Richard Yu said, “We bring you the future of design, the future of technology.”
Unlike the Samsung folding phone, the Galaxy Fold, which opens inwards, like a book, the Huawei phone opens outwards with the help of a patented hinge(n.转轴;合页). Given this different functionality, Huawei has made this device incredibly thin. When open, it is 5.4mm thick, and when closed it’s only 11mm. Huawei compares this to the “other folding phone” which is 6.9mm when open.
The phone will run on Huawei’s Kirin 980 processor and Balong 5000 chipset, which supports 5G. The company said the super-fast chipset will allow users to download a 1 gigabyte movie in just 3 seconds, which will help “change the world that we currently know”.
The device boasts of two column browsing or multi-window use. The lopsidedness(不匀称) of Huawei's folded displays are due to a vertical camera bar that runs along the back of the phone—a 40 MP main camera, a 16 MP wide angle lens, and an 8 MP telephoto—and an LED flash, and a power button..
It features a camera system that can play the role of both front and rear cameras. It also offers mirror shooting that lets you see the picture while you take it.
To power the phone, the device has double batteries which make up 4,500mAH. It also features Huawei's new Super Charge 55W to make this device the fastest charging phone in the industry. You should be able to get 85 percent power off a mere 30-minutes of charging.
The Huawei launch drew huge crowds. Fans queued outside the venue hours before the kickoff and those who couldn't get in watched the event outside on a big screen. At times, they burst into excited applause.
“The Mate X clearly shows that Huawei is a technology innovation leader. The new device has nothing to envy to Samsung's latest Galaxy Fold announcement.” said Thomas Husson, an analyst at Forrester Research.

    27. Which smartphone does the Huawei company refer to when they make mention for “the other folding phone” in Paragraph 3?
    A. the Galaxy Fold B. Huawei's new Super Charge 55W
    C. other folding smartphones D. the MateBook X Pro
28.Which of the following statements is true according to this report?
A.The Huawei foldable phone, Mate X, opens like a book with the help of a hinge.
    B. Mate X’s 5G capacity would help “change the world that we currently know”.
    C. Mate X has two column browsing , which are of the same size when folded.
    D. You can discharge 85 percent power in only half an hour.

    第二节:概要写作(满分25分)改编自教研室素材【原创】

    阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的短文。
Students who have used electronic cigarettes by the time they start ninth grade are more likely than others to start smoking traditional cigarettes and other tobacco products within the next year, according to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health. E-cigarettes deliver nicotine to the lungs by heating a liquid solution that contains nicotine and other chemicals to produce an aerosol(气雾剂) that the user inhales(吸入), a process often called “vaping.”
The study surveyed 2530 students from 10 public high schools in Los Angeles, comparing tobacco use initiation among 222 students who had used e-cigarettes, but not tobacco products, and 2,308 who had neither used e-cigarettes nor tobacco products when initially surveyed at the start of ninth grade. During the first six months after being surveyed, 30.7 percent of those who had used e-cigarettes started using tobacco products, such as cigarettes, and cigars, compared to only 8.1 percent of those who had never used e-cigarettes. Over the following six months leading into the start of 10th grade, 25.2 percent of e-cigarette users had used tobacco products, compared to just 9.3 percent of nonusers.
“While teen tobacco use has fallen in recent years, this study confirms that we should continue to vigilantly(警惕地) watch teen smoking patterns,” said NIDA Director Nora. “Parents and teens should recognize that although e-cigarettes might not have the same carcinogenic(致癌的) effects of regular cigarettes, they do carry a risk of addiction.”
“Recreational(娱乐的) e-cigarette use is becoming increasingly popular among teens who have never smoked tobacco. Adolescents who enjoy the experience of inhaling nicotine via e-cigarettes could be more likely to try other nicotine products, including smokable tobacco,” said Adam M. Leventhal, Ph.D., the first author on the study. “While we cannot conclude that e-cigarette use directly leads to smoking, this research raises concerns that recent increases in youth e-cigarette use could ultimately keep the epidemic(传染,流行) of smoking-related illness.”

An NIH’s study shows the addiction to e-cigarette in adolescence is connected with the high risk of future tobacco use. (要点一) Cigarette initiation during follow-up was reported by 37.4% of the 222 e-cigarette users, compared to only 8.1% of the 2308 non-users. (要点二) Consequently, the addiction to nicotine from smoking e-cigarettes should be closely watched by parents and adolescents. (要点三) Besides, increasing recreational e-cigarette use among adolescents could eventually contribute to more diseases arising from smoking.(要点四) (72 words)

    Text 1:
W: Looks like rain. Better look for your umbrella.
M:Yeah, I think it’s definitely going to rain. That’s why I’m not going out.
    Text 2:
M: Sorry for calling so late in the day.
    W: That’s OK.
M: Good. I’m actually calling about my visit. I’m afraid I’ve just realized I can’t make the Wednesday. Can we move the meeting to Thursday?
W: OK. Yes, the afternoon is free.
    Text 3:
W: I’ve got a two-week break coming up, and I’d like to go somewhere that’s hot and sunny.
M: Hot and sunny? So you’re tired of our weather.
    Text 4:
W: So when shall we meet?
M: Let’s see. My trip begins on the 30thy of January. That’s Monday. How about Tuesday?
    M: I’d prefer the Wednesday.
    W: OK. That suits me.
    Text 5:
    M: Need a ride home?
W: Thanks… but...my apartment is just around corner. Besides, I need fresh air.
    Text 6:
W: I’m afraid the manager isn’t here at the moment.
M: Oh, that’s a shame, but maybe you could help me. I bought this mobile phone here the other day and I can’t seem to get the e-mail function to work properly. I don’t know if it’s me or the phone that’s at fault.
W: The manager will be back later if you can wait.
M: I’m sorry, but that’s no use to me. I have an urgent appointment to get to this afternoon.
W: Well, if you wait a minute, I’ll see if I can find someone else to help you.
    M: OK.
    Text 7:
W: Oh no! I’m so sorry, Bill.
    M: What’s the matter?
W: I’ve just deleted something by mistake.
M: But why are you using my computer?
W: Well, mine is broken and I haven’t taken it to the repair shop. You know I just wantede to send a quick e-mail, so I used yours, and I’m really sorry!
    M: What did you delete?
W: I don’t know, just a file that was open. I thought it was mine. Sorry Bill!
M: Oh, never mind. It wasn’t important. Don’t worry about it.
    Text 8:
    W: Hello, Mr Smith’s office.
M: Oh, hello. Could I speak to Mike Smith, please?
W: I’m afraid he’s not at his desk at the moment. I think he’s gone out to lunch. He’ll be back in about half an hour. Shall I get him to call you as soon as he comes back? Or do you want to leave a message?
M: Actually, could you possibly give me his mobile number? It’s quite urgent.
W: I’m really sorry, but I am not allowed to.
M: Is there any chance of you ringing him for me and asking him to call me back?
W: Certainly, I can do that for you. Could I have your name, please?
    M: Yes, it’s Sam Dalgamo.
W: OK, Sam. I’ll ring him straight away. Goodbye.
    Text 9:
W: I’m calling for some information. I’d like to find about your services for hotels.
M: OK. Can you tell me a little more? What type of hotels?
W: Well, a chain of four-and five-star hotels. We’re based in Swizerland, but on your website you don’t have an operator in Switzerland, so I thought Italy was the nearest.
M: That’s right, yes. We are in Florence.
W: Good. Well, we’re interested in updating our current fitness rooms for guests. Our current equipment’s rather out of date and our customers often comment on this.
M: OK. How many hotels are we talking about?
W: We currently have eight hotels with fitness equipment, and three others that need it.
M:And what budget do you have for this?
W:That’s difficult to say, actually. Would it be possible for someone to come and have a look?
M: Yes, of course. Actually, we’re coming to Switzerland next month. We already have a customer in Zurich. Is that near you?
W: Not too far. I’m in Bern. It’s only a couple of hours away.
M: Fine. Can we arrange a meeting then?
    W:Sure. Let’s see…
    Text 10:
Hello, there. Good afternoon! Thank you for your finding the time in your busy schedules to come to the international student office’s first meeting for students going abroad, to south America next autumn. By the way, if you haven’t already signed next to your name on our attendance lists--- they’re on the table at the entrance to the school hall--- be sure to do it on your way out. Remember, this meeting is a must for you, so you need to make sure we know that you’re here.
All right, to begin, we’re going to be talking about health, and specifically the procedures that you have to go through in order to get your student visas for your host country. For all of you, this will include gathering health information, such as proof from your doctors that you’re not suffering from any serious diseases that may pass to others. All the information that each of you will need can be found in your host country handbook that you received when you were accepted into the program.
Also, each one of you is required to meet with a doctor at the student health center who is specialized in travel medicine. The health center can give you information about appointment times, but be sure to book your appointment early, because the specialist is only at the health center at certain times. To have the benefit, you should have your meeting at least 4-6 weeks before your trip.
