There are many theme parks in Florida. These amusement parks are designed for kids big and small and have plenty to offer adults, too.
    Magic Kingdom
Orlando is the center of theme parks in Florida. Of all the parks, no trip to Orlando would be complete without a visit to Magic Kingdom. The center of Disney world, with Main Street USA and Cinderella's Castle, is here at Magic Kingdom. There are rides for kids of all ages as well as shopping and dining.
    Epcot
After Magic Kingdom, the best-known theme park in Disney World is Epcot. This is a good place for curious kids who want to learn about the planets, the stars, and the workings of the human body. The good and wine festival is another big draw to Epcot.
    Animal kingdom
When it comes to the top 4 Florida theme parks, Animal kingdom must be on the list. You may have had the chance to go to a zoo before, but Animal kingdom brings the concept of a zoo to new heights. Sure you can go on the safari (狩猎旅行), but there are also rides on different animals, even dinosaurs.
    Universal's Island of Adventure
If your kids have the need for speed, you will surely want to check out Universal's Island of Adventure. Here roller coasters and thrill rides will combine the magic of the movies with plenty of twists (旋转) and turns. You'll also find Wizarding World of Harry Potter here---something the whole family is sure to enjoy.

When her five daughters were young, Helene An always told them that there was strength in unity (团结). To show this, she held up one chopstick, representing one person. Then she easily broke it into two pieces. Next, she tied several chopsticks together, representing a family. She showed the girls it was hard to break the tied chopsticks. This lesson about family unity stayed with the daughters as they grew up.
Helene An and her family own a large restaurant business in California. However, when Helene and her husband Danny left their home in Vietnam in 1975, they didn't have much money. They moved their family to San Francisco. There they joined Danny's mother, Diana, who owned a small Italian sandwich shop. Soon afterwards, Helene and Diana changed the sandwich shop into a small Vietnamese restaurant. The five daughters helped in the restaurant when they were young. However, Helene did not want her daughters to always work in the family business because she thought it was too hard.
Eventually the girls all graduated from college and went away to work for themselves, but one by one, the daughters returned to work in the family business. They opened new restaurants in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Even though family members sometimes disagreed with each other, they worked together to make the business successful. Daughter Elisabeth explains, "Our mother taught us that to succeed we must have unity, and to have unity we must have peace. Without the strength of the family, there is no business."
Their expanding business became a large corporation in 1996, with three generations of Ans working together. Now the Ans' corporation makes more than $20 million each year. Although they began with a small restaurant, they had big dreams, and they worked together. Now they are a big success.
    4. Helene tied several chopsticks together to show_____________.
    A. the strength of family unity B. the difficulty of growing up
    C. the advantage of chopsticks D. the best way of giving a lesson
    5. We can learn from Paragraph 2 that the An family_____________.
    A. started a business in 1975 B. left Vietnam without much money
    C. bought a restaurant in San Francisco D. opened a sandwich shop in Los Angeles
    6. What can we infer about the An daughters?
    A. They did not finish their college education.
    B. They could not bear to work in the family business.
    C. They were influenced by what Helene taught them.
    D. They were troubled by disagreement among family members.
    7. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
    A. How to run a corporation B. Strength comes from peace
    C. How to achieve a big dream D. Family unity builds success
    C
Imagine, one day, getting out of bed in Beijing and being at your office in Shanghai in only a couple of hours, and then, after a full day of work, going back home to Beijing and having dinner there.
Sounds unusual, doesn't it? But it's not that unrealistic, with the development of China's high-speed railway system. And that's not all. China has an even greater high-speed railway plan to connect the country with Southeast Asia, and eventually Eastern Europe. China is negotiating to extend its own high-speed railway network to up to 17 countries in 10 to 15 years, eventually reaching London and Singapore.
China has proposed three such projects. The first would possibly connect Kunming with Singapore via Vietnam and Malaysia. Another could start in Urumqi and go through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and possibly to Germany. The third would start in the northeast and go north through Russia and then into Western Europe. The new system would still follow China's high-speed railway standard. And the trains would be able to go 346 kilometers an hour, almost as fast as some airplanes. Of course, there are some technical challenges to overcome. There are so many issues that need to be settled, such as safety, rail gauge(轨距), maintenance of railway tracks. But the key issue is really money. China is already spending hundreds of billions of yuan on domestic railway expansion.
China prefers that the other countries pay in natural resources rather than with capital investment. Resources from those countries could stream into China to sustain development. It'll be a win-win project. For other countries, the railway network will definitely create more opportunities for business, tourism and so on, not to mention the better communication among those countries.
For China, such a project would not only connect it with the rest of Asia and bring some much-needed resources, but would also help develop China's far west. We foresee that in the coming decades, millions of people will migrate to the western regions, where the land is empty and resources unused. With high-speed trains, people will set up factories and business centers in the west once and for all. And they'll trade with Central Asian and Eastern European countries.
    8. According to the passage, the greatest challenge to the new high-speed railway plan is _____.
    A. technical issues B. safety of the system
    C. financial problems D. maintenance of railway tracks
    9. China's new high-speed railway plan will be a win-win project because _______      .
    A. China will get much-needed resources and develop its western regions.
    B. China and the countries involved will benefit from the project in various ways.
    C. China will develop its railway system and communication with other countries.
    D. The foreign countries involved will develop their railway transportation, business and tourism.
    10. Which of the following words best describes the author's attitude towards China's high-speed railway plan?
    A. Critical. B. Reserved. C. Doubtful D. Positive.
    11. Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?
    A. New Railway Standards B. Big Railway Dreams
    C. High-speed Bullet Trains D. International Railway Network
    D
A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that’s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves— the positive and negative effects are just as lasting.
We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We’re usually too ashamed to admit it, though. In fact, we really shouldn’t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves loud is a healthy habit.
This “self-talk” helps us encourage ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying “Good job!”
Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably answer in a similar manner. Harsh (刻薄的) and critical language will most likely cause the clerk to be defensive.
Words have power because of their lasting effects. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid.
Words have power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem (自尊) and motivate others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours
    12. There is no need for us to feel ashamed when we talk to ourselves because _________
    A. almost everybody has the habit of talking to themselves
    B. talking to ourselves always gives us courage
    C. we can benefit from talking to ourselves
    D. it does no harm to have “self-talk” when we are alone
    13. The underlined part in the third paragraph means that we should also timely ________
    A. remind ourselves B. praise ourselves C. make ourselves relaxed D. give ourselves amusement
    14. The author would probably hold the view that _________
    A. encouraging words are sure to lead to kind offers
    B. negative words may motivate us to make more progress
    C. people tend to remember friendly words
    D. it is better to think twice before talking to others
    15. In which column of the newspaper are you most likely to read this passage?
    A. News. B. Fashion. C. Health .D. Language.
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余项。
Homework is a major part of going to school: It's your teachers' way of evaluating(评价) how much you understand of what's going on in class. 16 Luckily, you can do a few things to make homework less work.
Be sure you understand the homework.
Write your homework down in your notebook or day planner if you need to. 17 It's much easier to take a minute to ask the teacher during or after class than to struggle to remember later that night!
Use any extra time in school.
Many schools have study halls that are specifically designed to allow students to study. It's tempting(诱惑) to hang out with friends during study periods or unstructured(松散的) time. 18
    Take a break.
19 So take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without stretching or relaxing will make you less productive than if you stop every so often. Taking a 15 minute break every hour is a good idea for most people.
      20
If you don't finish your homework during school, think about how much you have left and what else is going on that day, and then budget your time. Most high school students have between 1 and 3 hours of homework a night. If it's a heavy homework day and you've got an assignment in every subject, you'll need to devote more time to homework. It's a good idea to come up with some kind of homework schedule, especially if you are involved in sports or activities or have an after school job.
    A. Make a homework schedule.
    B. Settle down to do homework.
    C. And it helps digest important concepts.
    D. Most people's attention spans (跨度) aren't very long.
    E. Don't be afraid to ask questions about what's unknown.
    F. Once your homework is done, you can check over it if you have extra time.
    G. But the more work you can get done in school, the less you'll have to do that night.

Chinese brush calligraphy or “shufa” in Chinese is one of 41 most important art forms in China. Many Asian cultures have originated their own calligraphy styles, but China’s is unequaled because of 42 (it) beauty, grace (优雅), and history.
The 43 (origin) of Chinese brush calligraphy are unknown, but local tales say it goes back over 4,000 years to the time of the legendary (传说的) Yellow Emperor. He simplified(简化)Chinese characters and regular rules were set, 45 (make) it easier for people to learn and master. This Chinese art form continued to progress and during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) a new type of cursive script (草书) was formed and standardized. As a name suggests, it is large enough to be a city of its own, which include nearly1,000 buildings and nearly 10,000 rooms. In 1925, it was turning into a museum so that visitors like us from all over the world can stroll through many of the beautiful room and outdoor space. 第二节 书面表达 (满分25分)
    Dear James,
I have received your e-mail telling me that you are not interested in taking exercise and that you are addicted to eating junk food. Now you are worried about gaining weight. If you want to lose weight, what you should first do is find out why you are overweight.
From your e-mail, it seems that there are two reasons: lack of exercise and an unbalanced diet. I have two suggestions. First, set aside time to exercise regularly. Only in this way can you keep slim. Second, eat more healthy food and stay away from junk food. There are stores that specialize in healthy food, which is a little more expensive but can make a big difference.
I hope my suggestions are helpful. Looking forward to your reply.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
