The gd news is that mre and mre peple are becming aware f these prblems and are chsing t dress mre sustainably.
What des “sustainable fashin” mean? It means buying clthes that are made in an envirnmentally friendly way. Sme cmpanies are nw using recycled materials, such as plastic bttles and ld fishing nets, t make new clthes. Others are using natural dyes that d nt pllute water. Sustainable fashin als means wearing clthes fr lnger and nt fllwing every new style. When yu buy a new shirt, think abut whether yu will wear it at least 30 times. This “30 wears rule” helps reduce waste.
Anther great way t practice sustainable fashin is t buy secnd-hand clthes. Thrift stres and nline platfrms fr used clthing have becme very ppular, especially amng yung peple. Buying used clthes nt nly saves mney but als reduces the demand fr new prductin. Yu can als rganize a clthing swap with yur friends. Everyne brings clthes they n lnger wear, and yu exchange them. It’s like getting new clthes fr free!
Finally, when clthes are truly wrn ut, dn’t just thrw them away. Many brands nw have recycling prgrams where yu can drp ff ld clthes. He rushed t deliver packages, weaving between cars and running red lights just t save a few secnds. His friends ften warned him t slw dwn, but Le always replied, “Time is mney. I can’t affrd t waste a single minute.”
One rainy evening, Le was trying t deliver a package t a custmer n the ther side f the city. The rain was falling heavily, and the rads were slippery. Le was speeding as usual. As he turned a crner, he saw an ld wman crssing the street slwly with a walking stick. Le hit the brakes hard, but the wet rad made his mtrcycle skid. He lst cntrl and crashed int a lamppst.
When Le wke up, he was lying in a hspital bed. His leg was brken and wrapped in thick bandages. The dctr said he wuld need t stay in bed fr at least tw mnths. When Le finally recvered, he returned t wrk. But he was a different persn. He n lnger ran red lights r sped thrugh traffic. He drve slwly and carefully, enjying the scenery alng the way. He fund that he arrived at his destinatins nly a few minutes later than befre, but he felt much happier and safer. He als started greeting peple with a smile. The ld wman he nearly hit became his gd friend. She ften cked him warm meals and tld him stries f her yuth.

The wrld’s ceans are in truble. Every year, abut 11 millin tns f plastic waste enter the cean. This is equivalent t dumping ne garbage truck full f plastic int the cean every minute. Scientists predict that by 2050, there culd be mre plastic by weight than fish in the sea. This plastic pllutin harms marine animals in many ways. Turtles mistake plastic bags fr jellyfish and eat them, which blcks their stmachs. Seabirds feed plastic pieces t their chicks, causing them t starve. Whales and dlphins becme trapped in abandned fishing nets, unable t swim t the surface fr air.
But where des all this cean plastic cme frm? Surprisingly, mst f it des nt cme frm peple thrwing trash directly int the sea. Abut 80% f cean plastic cmes frm land. It blws ut f trash cans, falls ff garbage trucks, r is washed dwn rivers. In fact, research shws that just 10 rivers arund the wrld, mstly in Asia and Africa, carry 90% f the plastic that ends up in the cean. This means that if we can stp plastic frm entering these rivers, we can make a huge difference.
Many cuntries and rganizatins are wrking hard t slve this prblem. One amazing prject is called “The Ocean Cleanup”. This rganizatin has develped a giant flating system that uses cean currents t cllect plastic. The system is shaped like a large U and mves slwly thrugh the water, trapping plastic inside. They have already remved hundreds f thusands f kilgrams f plastic frm the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which is a huge area in the cean where plastic has cllected due t swirling currents.
On an individual level, we can als help reduce plastic pllutin. The simplest way is t use less single-use plastic, such as plastic bags, straws, water bttles, and cffee cups. Carry a reusable water bttle and shpping bag with yu. Say n t plastic straws when yu rder a drink. Als, make sure t recycle prperly. Rinse ut plastic cntainers befre putting them in the recycling bin. And never litter. A piece f plastic drpped n the street tday culd flat dwn a strm drain, int a river, and eventually reach the cean.
Anther innvative slutin is turning cean plastic int useful prducts. Sme cmpanies cllect plastic frm beaches and turn it int sneakers, sunglasses, and even building materials. This creates a reasn t clean up plastic and prevents new plastic frm being made. Every piece f plastic we remve frm the cean r keep frm entering it is a victry fr ur planet. The cean gives us half f the xygen we breathe and fd fr billins f peple. It’s time fr us t return the favr.
36. Hw much plastic waste enters the cean each year?

Have yu ever wndered why sme peple seem t learn new skills quickly while thers struggle? The answer may lie in smething scientists call “neurplasticity” (神经可塑性). This is the brain’s ability t change and grw thrughut yur life. In the past, peple believed that after childhd, the brain stpped develping. But mdern science has shwn that this is nt true. Yur brain can frm new cnnectins between brain cells at any age. Every time yu learn smething new, yur brain physically changes.
Neurplasticity is why practice makes prgress. When yu repeat an actin r recall a piece f infrmatin, the cnnectins between the related brain cells becme strnger. Think f it like a path in a frest. The first time yu walk thrugh tall grass, it’s difficult. But if yu walk the same path every day, it becmes clearer and easier t fllw. Yur brain wrks the same way. This is why a pianist can play a difficult piece withut lking at the keys, and a basketball player can make a free thrw withut thinking. Their brains have built strng pathways thrugh thusands f repetitins.
S, hw can yu use neurplasticity t becme a better learner? First, challenge yurself with new and difficult tasks. Yur brain grws mst when yu are struggling just utside yur cmfrt zne. If smething is t easy, yur brain desn’t need t change. If it’s t hard, yu may give up. The “Gldilcks zne” is where the task is challenging but pssible. Secnd, practice cnsistently ver time. Studying fr ne hur every day is much mre effective than studying fr seven hurs n a single day. Yur brain needs time t frm and strengthen thse new cnnectins.
Third, get enugh sleep. While yu sleep, yur brain replays the day’s events and decides what t keep and what t frget. Studies have shwn that peple wh sleep after learning remember much mre than thse wh stay awake. S, pulling an all-nighter befre an exam is actually a bad idea. Furth, use different ways t learn the same thing. Read abut it, listen t a pdcast, discuss it with a friend, and draw a picture f it. The mre different types f brain cnnectins yu make, the strnger yur memry will be.
Finally, believe that yu can imprve. Peple wh think that intelligence is fixed and cannt change are less likely t try hard when they face difficulty. On the ther hand, peple with a “grwth mindset” believe that they can get smarter thrugh hard wrk. They see challenges as pprtunities rather than threats. The gd news is that anyne can develp a grwth mindset. Remember, yur brain is like a muscle. The mre yu use it, the strnger it becmes. Yu are nt brn with a limit n what yu can learn. Yu can always grw, always change, and always imprve.
41. What is neurplasticity?
A. The brain’s ability t stay the same thrughut life.
B. The brain’s ability t change and grw at any age.
C. The brain’s ability t remember everything perfectly.
D. The brain’s ability t wrk withut sleep.
42. Why des the authr mentin a path in a frest?
A. T shw that learning is difficult. B. T explain hw practice strengthens brain cnnectins.
C. T describe what the brain lks like. D. T prve that frests are gd fr learning.
43. Accrding t the passage, what is the “Gldilcks zne” f learning?
A. Tasks that are very easy t d. B. Tasks that are impssible t finish.
C. Tasks that are challenging but pssible. D. Tasks that invlve physical activity.
44. Why is pulling an all-nighter befre an exam a bad idea?
A. Because sleep helps the brain strengthen new memries.
B. Because studying at night is nt effective.
C. Because exams are always in the mrning.
D. Because cffee is bad fr yur health.
45. What is a “grwth mindset” accrding t the passage?
A. The belief that intelligence cannt change.
B. The belief that nly children can learn new things.
C. The belief that peple can get smarter thrugh hard wrk.
D. The belief that sme peple are brn with limits.
