The man wh invented email was Ray Tmlinsn, a US engineer. He sadly passed away in 2016 at the age f 74. Back in 1971, Tmlinsn was wrking n a way t send messages frm ne cmputer t anther. He needed a symbl t separate users’ names frm their cmputers’ names. The “@” sign was nt cmmnly used and was n all keybards, making it the perfect chice.
Tmlinsn said, “The ‘@’ sign made the mst sense. It shwed where the user was... at.” Fr example, “Alex@schlnewssite” wuld reach Alex at the schl newspaper’s website. This was the early frm f email.
Interestingly, Tmlinsn didn’t remember the first message he sent. It was prbably smething simple like “QWERTYUIOP”, the first rw f letters n a keybard.
