My essay described ur traditins: chili, church, tw presents (pajamas, plus a gift f ur chsing). A lt f it was abut my Aunt Bud, the head f my mm’s family. We were lucky we lived clsest, s she spent hlidays at ur huse. Sadly, she’s gne nw. Like s many wnderful spirits, she died t yung, just after she retired with big plans fr an easy life.

One June day, I called my mm. “What are yu ding?” I asked. “Sitting here lking at Bud’s tree,” she said, referring t the tree that the funeral hme (殡仪馆) had sent hme with us. It was abut a ft tall when my dad planted it; tday it twers ver the rfline.
“There are cardinals all ver it,” Mm said. “I’ve never seen s many.”
I wasn’t surprised. “Mm, yu knw what day it is, right?” I said. “It’s Aunt Bud’s birthday.” S f curse she had cme t visit — with friends.
In this issue, we’ve cllected inspiring stries abut unusual events that happened arund the hlidays. This year we fcus n peple wh extended a kindness that made a frever difference in smene’s life. “Angels in actin,” we call them. I hpe yur angels visit yu this hliday seasn.

Last year, an estimated ne in seven Americans participated in Dry January, a challenge t abstain frm alchl fr a mnth. Fr everyne — scial drinkers and pssible prblem drinkers — ne key t a psitive Dry January is t see it nt as a mnth f gritting (咬紧) yur teeth and getting thrugh it until yu can drink again, but rather the start f a healthier lifestyle verall. What better way t start the new year?

Fr many years, scientists believed that all dinsaurs were cld-blded. Hwever, they als knew that dinsaurs eventually evlved int mdern birds, like pigens and chickens, which are warm-blded. That meant that at least sme dinsaurs must have becme warm-blded, but which nes and when that happened was unclear. Nw a new study has fund that dinsaurs became warm-blded abut 183 millin years ag.
Cld-blded, r ectthermic, animals rely n external surces f heat, like sunlight, t maintain their bdy temperature. Reptiles, amphibians, and mst fish are cld-blded. Warm-blded, r endthermic, animals can generate their wn bdy heat internally. Birds and mammals, including humans, are warm-blded.

They als lked at hw the climate changed and different species f dinsaurs spread thrughut the Earth during that perid. Abut 183 millin years ag, massive vlcanic eruptins caused climate disruptins (紊乱) n Earth and led t the extinctin f many plant and animal species. The team fund that at abut this time, tw f the three main dinsaur grups — therpds and rnithischians — migrated (迁徙) t clder climates. Therpds include Tyrannsaurus rex, and rnithischians include Triceratps and Stegsaurus.
Accrding t the study, the mve t clder areas indicates that these dinsaurs had develped the ability t generate their wn bdy heat. “If smething is capable f living in very cld regins, it must have sme way f heating up,” Chiarenza said. In cntrast, saurpds (蜥脚类恐龙), the dinsaur grup that includes the Brntsaurus, mstly stayed in dry, warm climates. As cld-blded dinsaurs, they wuld have needed a warm envirnment.
The team believes that the ability t regulate their wn bdy temperatures gave warm-blded dinsaurs an advantage after the climate disruptin. They wuld have been able t stay active, grw, and have babies, all f which wuld have helped them t survive.
      12. Where d warm-blded animals get heat frm?
      A. Sunlight.B. Themselves.C. Other animals.D. Vlcanic eruptin.
      13. Hw did the authr develp paragraph 4?
      A. By making cmparisns.B. By presenting statistics.
      C. By giving a definitin.D. By describing the research prcess.
      14. What will the text prbably talk abut next?
      A. The reasns why saurpds eventually went extinct.
      B. The applicatins t predicting future climate changes.
      C. Specific evidence f hw warm-blded dinsaurs lived.
      D. A detailed descriptin f the massive vlcanic eruptins.
      15. Which is prbably the best title fr the text?
      A. The Dinsaur Migratin MysteryB. Vlcanes: A Dinsaur Extinctin Event
      C. Hw Dinsaurs Adapted t Cld ClimatesD. Saurpds: The Last Cld-Blded Giants
