In the lively dining scene f Japan, a unique eatery stands ut — nt fr its fancy recipes r elegant decratin, but fr its “imperfect” service. Knwn as the “Restaurant f Mistaken Orders,” it has redefined what a restaurant can be, carrying a great scial missin behind every “mistake.”

Initially, Oguni held a negative view f dementia, assuming thse affected culd barely handle daily tasks. Hwever, after spending time with the residents, he made a surprising discvery: they were capable f many “nrmal” things, including serving thers. Inspired by this, Oguni decided t create a space where they culd shwcase their abilities and interact with the public.
In the Restaurant f Mistaken Orders, wrng rders are nt exceptins — they are cmmn. A custmer might rder a hamburger steak but get a plate f gyzas (a kind f dumpling); an elderly server may bring a dish n ne rdered, r take back a drink just placed n the table. But here’s the twist: the restaurant is never abut aviding mistakes. What truly matters is the interactin between custmers and the staff with dementia. Despite the mix-ups, the dining rm is always filled with laughter and smiles. Custmers readily brush ff the wrng rders and even enjy the unexpected fd.
The Restaurant f Mistaken Orders has gained widespread recgnitin, winning awards like the Silver Lin at the 2019 Cannes Lins. Mre imprtantly, it has achieved smething far mre valuable than fame — it has changed peple’s negative perceptins f dementia.

Static (静态的)electricity can remve up t three-quarters f frst frm a surface, which culd save vast amunts f energy and millins f tns f antifreeze currently used t defrst vehicles.
In 2021, Jnathan Breyk at Virginia Tech and his clleagues frtunately discvered that frst becmes naturally charged as it frms. They used this natural electric field t charge a nearby film f water that culd then, in turn, pull ice grains frm the frst, acting as a natural de-icer. This effect, hwever, was minute and it barely affected the frst as a whle.
Nw, Breyk and his team have develped a mre effective defrsting system by using a high-vltage electrde (高压电极)suspended abve frst-cvered glass. This system can remve half the frst frm a surface in arund 10 t 15 minutes, and 75 per cent f frst if the surface is als highly water-resistant. “Instead f taking advantage f frst’s pre-existing vltage, we’re trying t enhance the whle effect by applying ur wn electrical pressure,” says Breyk.
Remving 50 per cent f frst frm a surface using their methd required an electrde charged t 550 vlts (伏特), mre than duble the vltage supplied by mains electricity in mst cuntries. Unlike electrical utlets, thugh, the electrde has a very small current, making it relatively safe. Accidentally tuching the electrde wuld generate an electric shck cmparable t an electric fence used n farms. This small current als ensures it requires little energy, less than half the energy it wuld take t heat the frst directly, says Breyk.
As well as ptentially being used in car windws and n rads, a fast and efficient defrsting methd culd als be helpful in the airline industry, which uses vast quantities f antifreeze t ensure aerplane wings are free f ice that might affect flying perfrmance.
“Instead f spreading quantities f antifreeze ver an airplane wing t de-ice it when it’s taxiing, yu can use this machine. It drives arund airprt runways with an electric stick and all the ice and snw cme right ff,” says Breyk.
      12. What was the disadvantage f the defrsting methd Breyk’s team fund in 2021?
      A. It used t much energy.
      B. It had almst n real effect.
      C. It failed t wrk n car windws.
      D. It needed high-vltage equipment.
      13. What bsts the new system’s defrsting rate?
      A. Higher water resistance.B. Glass surface.
      C. Thicker frst layer.D. Lwer vltage.
      14. What can we infer abut the new system’s airline use?
      A. It affects flight safety.
      B. It cuts antifreeze demand.
      C. It wrks best during flight.
      D. It needs high-vltage runways.
      15. Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
      A. De-icing Systems fr Cars and Planes
      B. Static Electricity: A New Defrsting Methd
      C. High-Vltage Electrdes: Dangers and Risks
      D. The Discvery f Frst’s Natural Electric Field

      【答案】【参考范文1】
      Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m writing t share my pinin n the “Future Fcus” clumn’s directin. I prefer Optin B (Cultural Innvatin) fr tw reasns.
First, it meets students’ need t cnnect with ur rts. Many f us are curius abut intangible heritage like paper-cutting but lack access t in-depth knwledge — this clumn can fill the gap. Secnd, it shws cultural cnfidence: sharing hw tea art blends with mdern design helps us tell gd Chinese stries.
Fr the clumn, I suggest inviting lcal craftsmen t write guest articles with their creatin stries.
      Yurs sincerely,
      Li Hua
      【参考范文2】
      Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m writing t share my pinin n the “Future Fcus” clumn’s directin. I strngly recmmend Optin A (Cutting-Edge Technlgy).
Firstly, it matches ur learning needs. We ften hear abut AI in class but rarely knw hw it helps with hmewrk r campus management — this clumn can explain such practical uses clearly. Secndly, it cnnects t ur daily lives: tpics like new energy EVs can teach us hw technlgy reduces carbn emissins, which fits the schl’s envirnmental prtectin activities.
Fr the clumn, I suggest adding a “Tech Q&A” part where students can ask abut AI r new energy issues and get answers frm experts.
      Yurs sincerely,
      Li Hua
      第二节 (满分25分)
      【47题答案】
【答案】Out f curisity, she pened the envelpe and pulled ut a handwritten card. It read “Happy Birthday, dear Mrs. Jhnsn. Thank yu fr raising such a wnderful daughter. Happy birthday t yu and many happy returns — Frm all yur admirers at Evans & C.” Belw was the printed cmpany lg. Mr. Evans had added in bld script. “Delivery destinatin: Yur mther’s drstep within 60 minutes. Cnsider this yur special assignment.” Realizatin washed ver Lisa. Suddenly, she understd everything. Tears welled up in Lisa’s eyes.
Later, Lisa tld her clleagues what happened. Everyne smiled and realised that Mr. Evans hadn’t refused her request at all; he’d transfrmed it int a meaningful missin while preserving her jb’s dignity. He even prepared a surprise fr her withut her knwledge, making her greatly tuched. Smetimes, what we see n the surface isn’t the whle truth. A “n” might hide a warmer “yes”. True kindness smetimes wears a stern mask, and the deepest cmpassin ften arrives nt thrugh pen drs, but thrugh thughtfully pened paths.
