Last year, his craft earned him ver $688,000 — a success he wed t his much attentin t detail and cmmitment t perfectin. “We wrk with ver 10 different types f wd. Every step, frm design and cutting t carving, clring and painting, is crucial,” he said.
Internatinal rders began with a midnight message frm an American client tw years ag. After prducing five design variants, Ren waited by his screen fr hurs withut receiving any feedback. “I later realized it was simply the time difference,” he recalled.
Anther memrable prject was fr an American restaurant wner wh initially requested fur windw-like plaques, each abut 1.2 meters in diameter. After presenting several design drafts that shwcased traditinal techniques and craftsmanship, the impressed client increased the rder t six pieces. “The wner went n t refer several ther American custmers t me,” said Ren.
He believes that in the custm business, lng-term relatinships are key — each satisfied custmer becmes a brand ambassadr. Ren’s small but dedicated (专心致志的) team f eight cntinues t breathe life int wd, with his plaques nw decrating numerus businesses abrad.

Researchers have sme new evidence abut what makes birds make s much nise early in the mrning, and it’s nt fr sme f the reasns they previusly thught. Fr decades, a ppular thery abut why birds sing at dawn — called the dawn chrus (合唱) — has been that they can be heard farther and mre clearly at that time. Sund travels faster in humid (温暖潮湿的) air and it’s mre humid early in the mrning. It’s less windy, t, which is thught t lessen any distrtin (失真) f their sunds.
But scientists in India studied audi (声音的) recrdings f birds in the rainfrest. They said they didn’t find prf t supprt this idea abut sund traveling better. It was ne f the ideas abut envirnmental factrs. Anther idea is that birds sing at dawn because it’s t dark t lk fr fd.
“We didn’t find much supprt fr sme f these envirnmental reasns suggested in past studies fr birds singing mre at dawn,” said Vijay Ramesh, a researcher at Crnell University.
The researchers didn’t find ne clear reasn why the dawn chrus happens, but they fund sme supprt fr the ideas that the early mrning nise is abut birds marking their territry after being inactive at night and talking abut finding fd.
The team analyzed recrdings frm audi recrders placed at 43 lcatins in the Western Ghats muntain range in suthern India, which is knwn as a bidiversity htspt. They examined sunds f what they determined were 69 different species f birds. They studied recrdings frm the hurs arund dawn and the hurs arund dusk t cmpare activities.
Unsurprisingly t anyne wh’s been rused by bird calls, the vast majrity f species they studied had significantly higher vcal activities at dawn cmpared t dusk.
8. Why did Indian scientists cnduct research n birds in the rainfrest?
A. T recrd the sunds f rare bird species.
B. T prve sund travels faster in humid air.
C. T explre the reasns fr birds’ dawn chrus.
D. T find ut the best time fr the dawn chrus.
9. What can be inferred frm the findings f the study?
A. Birds’ dawn singing may serve scial functins.
B. The ld thery abut dawn chrus is true.
C. Birds are less active at dusk due t light.
D. All birds sing t mark territry at dawn.
10. What was the researchers’ apprach in the study?
A. They bserved birds’ feeding habits in the mrning.
B. They cnducted experiments in a labratry setting.
C. They tracked birds’ mvements in different cuntries.
D. They analyzed audi recrdings frm tens f lcatins.
11. What des the underlined wrd “rused” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Reminded.B. Waken up.C. Threatened.D. Stirred up.

Micrplastics (tiny, micrscpic bits f plastic) have been fund almst everywhere researchers lk, including the human bdy. Micrplastics and their even tinier cusins, nanplastics, are prbably flwing thrugh yur bld and building up in yur rgans (器官) like the lungs and liver. Nw, a new study is linking micrplastics t increased heart attack and strke risk.
“There are sme micrplastics in nrmal, healthy arteries (动脉),” said Dr Rss Clark, a researcher wh led the study. “But the amunt there is really, really different when they becme diseased with symptms.”
Clark and his team measured micrplastics and nanplastics in the dangerus, fatty plaque that can build up in arteries, blck bld flw, and cause strkes r heart attacks. Cmpared t the walls f healthy plaque-free arteries, plaque buildup had 16 times mre micrplastics — just in the peple wh didn’t have symptms. In peple wh had experienced strke, mini-strke, r visin lss, the plaque had 51 times mre micrplastics.
Previus research had fund that peple with micrplastics in their arterial plaque were mre likely t have a heart attack r die. T investigate why, Clark studied samples (样本) frm 48 peple’s cartid arteries, the pair f superhighways in yur neck that channel bld t yur brain. The difference in the number f micrplastics surprised him, but his team fund anther cncerning trend, t. Cells in the plaque with lts f micrplastics shwed different gene activity frm thse with lw micrplastics.
In the high-plastic envirnment, ne grup f immune cells had switched ff a gene that’s assciated with turning ff inflammatin (炎症). Clark’s team als fund genetic differences in a grup f stem cells thught t help prevent heart attacks and strkes by reducing inflammatin and stabilizing plaque.
“Culd it be that micrplastics are smehw changing their gene expressin?” Clark said. “There’s mre research needed t fully establish that, but at least it gives us a hint as t where t lk.”
12. Hw might peple feel abut micrplastics linked t disease?
A. Indifferent.B. Cncerned.C. Optimistic.D. Cnfused.
13. What des Clark’s cmparisn f micrplastic levels shw?
A. Micrplastics in healthy arteries are fatal.
B. Healthy arteries cntain n micrplastics.
C. Micrplastic levels are related t arterial health.
D. Nanplastics aren’t present in diseased arteries.
14. What des the study suggest abut micrplastics’ ptential effect?
A. They reduce the risk f strkes.
B. They are beneficial t turning ff inflammatin.
C. They directly blck bld flw t the brain.
D. They may affect gene expressin in immune cells.
15. What can be the best title fr the text?
A. The Dangers f Using PlasticsB. Micrplastics and Health Risk
C. Medical Research n Human OrgansD. Micrplastics Fund in Human bdies
