He grew up a “water baby” and since his father was a big swimmer, the prgressin t surfing came naturally, despite his missing ft. Fr his whle adult life, Bennett has been at the crest (巅峰) f the wave f para-surfing, which has gne thrugh a huge transfrmatin.
The turning pint came in 2015 when the Internatinal Surfing Assciatin (ISA) hsted the first Para Surfing Wrld Champinship — bringing tgether surfers frm all the natins. Scientists at Lughbrugh University in the United Kingdm have created “the wrld’s smallest vilin”. The vilin is s tiny that it can nly be seen with a pwerful micrscpe (显微镜). The prject was planned t test the limits f hw small a vilin culd actually be.
The tiny vilin is made f platinum, a silver-grey precius material (材料) used in making expensive jewellery and in industry. It is just 35 micrns lng and 13 micrns wide. A micrn is ne millinth f a meter. This means that the vilin is even thinner than a human hair.
The team at Lughbrugh University is wrking t build very tiny things thrugh “nanlithgraphy”. If yu’ve ever used a stencil, yu may understand it mre easily. Fr example, yu cut a vilin-shaped hle in a piece f paper. That’s a stencil. When yu draw n the paper with a pencil, the nly part that gets filled in is the vilin-shaped hle.
Nanlithgraphy is mre cmplicated (复杂的), but it fllws a similar rule. T make the tiny vilin, the researchers first cvered a small chip with a special gel (凝胶). That was like the paper. There were tw steps in creating the hle. First, a special machine with a super-tiny needle was used. The scientists heated the needle and “drew” the vilin n the chip. The heat burns the gel n the chip where the needle tuches. Then the scientists washed the burned part away, leaving a tiny vilin-shaped hle in the gel. Next, they cvered the chip with platinum. This filled the hle. Finally, they washed the chip again, this time clearing the rest f the gel, and leaving behind the tiny metal vilin.
It tk abut three hurs t create the vilin, but the researchers spent several mnths develping the methds they used. Nw the researchers plan t emply the technlgy t study mre serius things. Fr example, they’re lking at new ways t stre infrmatin and make cmputers wrk faster by heating.
28.What’s the scientists’ purpse in creating the tiny vilin?
A.T explre hw small a vilin can pssibly be made.
B.T test a new inventin that can see tiny bjects.
C.T find ut which material is best fr making vilins.
D.T shw the university’s leading rle in musical instrument making.
29.Why des the authr mentin stencil in paragraph 3?
A.T give an example.B.T explain an idea.
C.T intrduce a useful tl.D.T lead int a new tpic.
30.What’s the main idea f paragraph 4?

B.The steps and materials used t make the tiny vilin.
C.Why platinum is chsen as the material fr the tiny vilin.
D.The different rles f the gel and paper in making the vilin.
31.What des the underlined wrd “emply” in the last paragraph prbably mean?

T celebrate the spring in Rme, they smetimes eat vignarla. Vignarla is a vegetable stew (炖菜) mixed with all things green and new. It nce marked the start f the new seasn after the hungry gap f late winter. But in a time when frzen peas are available all year rund, the dish’s amazing spring freshness n lnger means as much.
Our mdern fd system has been able t supply us with the freshness f spring all year rund, but befre refrigeratin (冷藏) and mdern methds f agriculture, even butter and eggs were seasnal fds. Hwever, hw ften d yu ever taste smething truly fresh? If yu lk clsely, yu’ll likely ntice much f the prduce at yur lcal supermarket isn’t quite as fresh as yu thught. I recently met a British farmer wh prduces salad greens. He tld me he can taste a huge difference between a leaf that is a day ld and ne that is three days ld and that, by five days, the taste is greatly dulled, despite the leaves still lking green and bright. Because f this, the average shpper is nne the wiser in regard t the freshness f prduce. The same ges fr much f the fd yu buy. The label says “fresh” but what this actually means is smething clser t “nt rtten (腐烂的).”
Our entire fd supply is based n the idea f “fresh” and “keeping things fresh”. But t keep things fresh is a kind f cheat, because smething can nly truly be cnsidered fresh when it has just been taken ut f the grund r has just been cked. The “fresh” fd and drink in ur supermarkets has ften been n a surprisingly lng jurney in the glbal cld chain befre it reaches us. Many refrigerated fds can be labeled as “fresh” even if they are weeks ld, and fruit can still be “fresh” after being irradiated (辐照) r after having received a wax cating.
It may be impssible t measure true freshness in fd, but yu knw it when yu taste it. A cuple f years ag, a friend served me a simple dish f biled ptates that were s fresh and waxy that every ther ptat I’d ever eaten seemed tasteless in my memry.
32.What can we learn frm paragraph 2?
A.Supermarkets nly sell vegetables that are truly fresh.
B.Supermarkets smetimes invite farmers t teach shppers hw t chse fresh prduce.
C.Many peple can’t actually tell whether supermarket prduce is fresh r nt.
D.The British farmer culd find little difference between truly fresh greens and “fresh” greens.
33.Why des the authr say “t keep things fresh is a kind f cheat” in paragraph 3?
A.Because many kinds f drinks are made frm cncentrate.
B.Because it’s impssible fr the mdern fd system t keep fd fresh.
C.Because cnsumers typically aren’t able t tell whether the fd n sale is fresh r nt.
D.Because it ften takes a lng time befre “fresh” fd appear in yur lcal supermarket.
34.Accrding t the authr, what’s the mst reliable way t tell whether fd is fresh r nt?
A.Check it.B.Taste it.C.Smell it.D.Ck it.
35.Hw des the authr start and end the passage?
A.By telling stries f her friends.
B.By intrducing traditinal fds.
C.By shwing examples f truly fresh fd.
D.By sharing her experience f eating truly fresh fd.
