Yu'll sec hw we gt the details, checked and duble-cheked t cnfirm the accuraey.
It's imprtant t stress that Reader's Digest is nt a newspaper. We can take ur time t chse ur tpics and write, edit and fact-check ur stries. What yu're reading is a magazine, printed n paper-s if we mak a mistake, we can't just g nline and crrect it.
While we dn't break news, what we d is tell stries. Whether a Natinal Interest reprt r a health feature, what sets us apart is the narrative nature f ur wrk. We strive t get inside the heads and hearts f the characters in ur stries. Whatever type f article we're wrking n,we apply the same jurnalistic techniques and standards fr accuracy.

Defining friendship is difficult, and scientists ften hld different views n it. The science f friendship can be analyzed thrugh multiple disciplines, ne f which is neurbilgy-it asks:Why des the brain "seck" friends? Hw des friendship influcnce neural circuitry(神经回路)7
Dr. Ben Rein, a neurscientist, explres these questins in his new bk Why Brains Need Friends. He argues the friend-fcused brain evlved as humans learned t survive in grups since carly times. "Scial interactin is rewarding," he said, and the brain uses neurtransmitters(神经递质)like dpamine(多巴胺)t make exchanges with thers pleasant and reinfrcing. The ther side is scial withdrawal, smething that the brain finds stressful, resulting in increased crtisl(皮质醇)levels."By triggering this stress respnse, yur brain mtivates yu t find scial cmpany," he said. "It's yur brain's way f saying, 'Get back t yur grup.”"
A 2023 reprt by a frmer US Surgen General utlines tday's lneliness crisis, linking insufficient scial cnnectin t a heightened risk fr heart disease, anxiety and depressin."The truth is that being scially discnnected has glbal, systemic health harms," Dr.Rein nted, adding that it hlds thrughut a persn's life.
Research has revealed clear benefits f scial cnnectin. Overall, peple feel better after interactins. Yet cnnectins via scial media may nt translate. “Frm a data standpint, it seems scial media is nt gd fr us. It's nt nearly as gd as interacting in persn," Dr. Rein said.Technlgy nw enables interactins that previusly necessitated persnal cntact. Digital systems, while cnvenient, replace face-t-face cntact.
Dr. Rein's wrk has cnvinced him that in-persn interactins, whether with friends r strangers, are critically imprtant t health. Whether sciety mves tward face-t-face cmmunities r mre tward digital cnvenience in the cming decades may have ntable effects n the brain. The latter is Dr. Rein's "biggest fear". "As we sit at the crssrads f this decisin, I'm hping that we will make an infrmed judgment n the individual level, and whenever we have the pprtunity, we'll incrprate mre cnnectin fr the sake f ur wn health."
32. Accrding t Dr. Rein, what causes the brain t push peple t seek scial cmpany?
A. The drp in dpamine levels.
B. The need t learn grup survival skills.
C. The stress frm scial withdrawal.
D. The wish t keep neural circuitry healthy.33. What is Paragraph 3 mninly abut?
A. Reasns fr the releas f a 2023 US reprt.
B. Health prblems frm pr scial cnnectin.
C. Ways t reduce heart discase and anxiety risks.
D. The imprtance f studying friendship science,
34. What des the underlined wrd "translate" in Paragraph 4 prbably mean?
A. Cmmunicate thrugh wrds.
B. Have the same effect r result.
C. Mve frm ne place t anther.
D. Change frm ne language t anther.
35. What can we infer frm Dr. Rcin's "biggest fear"?
A. Sciety may rely mre n digital interactins.
B. Peple may weaken in-persn cnnectin skills.
C. In-persn interactins may becme rare gradually.
D. Cnvenienceis priritized ver infrmed judgment.
