Prducing and cnsuming clthing is a majr surce f glbal CO2 emissins (排放). Frm grwing cttn t dyeing (染色) fabrics, every step in the clthing supply chain leaves a carbn ftprint. Much f the impact cmes frm energy-intensive industrial prcesses. Here’s a breakdwn f the emissins in 2020 acrss different stages f clthing prductin.
Making clthes mre sustainable isn’t just abut cutting emissins — it’s als abut chsing the right materials. Fabrics need t be nt nly cmfrtable and affrdable, but als lng-lasting and lw-impact. Each material has its wn challenges and envirnmental cst. While n perfect slutin exists yet, a range f alternatives are emerging.
This shift tward sustainable fashin is glbal, and the extent f transfrmatin needed is “unlike anything we’ve seen befre,” says Stella McCartney, a pineer in ethical (道德上的) fashin design. It’s estimated that fashin cnsumptin culd grw by 60% by 2030, putting even mre pressure n resurces. Still, experts believe that circular design and material innvatin can drive real change, keeping pace with the sweeping trend f energy cnservatin and emissin reductin. “The future f fashin is restrative and regenerative by design,” says McCartney.

This spring break, my 12-year-ld disabled sn rde his first rller caster. He had s much fun!
The rller caster was the Slinky Dg Dash at Disney’s Hllywd Studis in Orland, Flrida. Disney Wrld is ne f the nly mainstream amusement parks that will let my sn g n rides. He has cerebral palsy (脑瘫) and is unable t sit independently. Because f his disabilities, mst parks wn’t let him g n their rller casters.
The experience at Disney was special fr my sn, but als special fr the rest f my family f five. Splitting up (分开) is smething we encunter daily. My sn ges t a special schl in a twn 20 minutes frm ur hme. There are almst n activities he can enjy at ur lcal parks and recreatin prgram, and he spends a few afternns a week in physical treatment.
We als divide and cnquer when we are ut in public. Many buildings have an accessible entrance that is further away, s we split up t avid dragging everyne arund the back. The same ges fr hunting fr a vacant elevatr in a big building r a busy mall.
Accessible seating in theaters ften nly has rm fr ne cmpanin, s we sit in separate rws r further apart frm ne anther. On ccasin, an entire building r part f a building is just cmpletely inaccessible, s we split up r pass n an activity we planned t enjy because we literally can’t get everyne in the dr.
Many peple assume that tending t my sn’s day-t-day needs is the hardest part f being his caregiver. But finding resurces and places that will include him is the real challenge. Disney Wrld is ne f the few, if nt the nly place, where everyne in my family feels equally imprtant. Nw that my sn has successfully ridden his first rller caster, I wuld lve fr him t g n the same types f rides at an amusement park in the lcal cmmunity, but I knw it’s nt an ptin. Fr nw, anyway, I’m hlding ur recent experience clse t my heart.

Beneath Califrnia lie cmplex faults (断层)—places where large chunks f rck slide past, ver, under, r int ne anther. They mve at the rate a fingernail grws until, eventually the grund shakes. Inevitably, destructive earthquakes will rck the state. Nthing can be dne t prevent them frm striking, but understanding where they are likely t happen means we can prepare.
In ther wrds, the best way t mitigate these future disasters is t draw maps f the underwrld, charting every fault and mnitring its behavir. T create thse maps, researchers emply seismmeters (地震仪) n the surface that sense earthquakes. Seismic waves are a bit like music. Identify their ntes and rhythm changes, and scientists can wrk ut what undergrund instruments create them, where they lie, and hw they behave upn shakes.
When Rss, an assistant gephysics prfessr, started in the field in the early 2010s, he sught a new way frward. He and his clleagues tk seismic wave frms that human scientists had identified as genuine quakes. Then he made templates (模板) f them. Finally, he set an algrithm (算法) upn the seismic recrd, ne searching fr tiny quakes that matched thse templates. The algrithm quickly identified nearly tw millin previusly hidden tiny quakes in a duratin f nearly 10 years.
Hwever, this prgram culd nly find earthquakes in the seismic recrd that it was taught t recgnize. Nvel seismic events went unnticed. S Rss turned t mre advanced tls: self-learning prgrams. Very quickly, these prgrams fund all srts f unfamiliar-sunding quakes. AI multiplies and accelerates the capabilities f a single scientist. It can prcess many seismic recrds at the same time, with great precisin and in three dimensins faster than any human culd in the same amunt f time. But fr all their prmise, AI prgrams wn’t replace human scientists. “They’re just tls,” Rss says— nes that in time will becme as rdinary as seismmeters themselves.
28. What des the underlined wrd “mitigate” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Relieve.B. Prevent.C. Find.D. Sense.
29. What infrmatin can researchers btain by analyzing seismic waves?

A. The new findings f quakes.B. The breakthrugh f histry.
C. The hidden way f measuring.D. The prcess f the research.
31. What might the authr agree with abut AI?
A. Multiple seismic recrds can be safely stred with AI.
B. AI is helpful in imprving the efficiency f scientists.
C. Scientists can rely n AI t d independent research.
D. AI-related prgrams are free f human mnitring.

D yu ever find yurself randmly thinking back t the times we wandered, cllecting wildflwers and smiling beneath the sky? That feeling is ften referred t as nstalgia (怀旧).
Psychlgists have defined nstalgia as a self-cnscius, scial emtin, bittersweet but dminantly psitive. It cmes frm ur happy memries and ur desire t g back t the past and recnnect with the peple we cared abut. Often, nstalgia invlves sensry stimuli. On sme ccasins, the smell f autumn leaves might generate a fierce lnging fr yur childhd hme. Almst everyne can experience nstalgia, althugh its bject tends t vary thrughut life. One survey cnducted by the psychlgist Krystine Irene Batch fund that yunger peple felt mre nstalgia fr pets, tys, and hlidays than did lder peple, wh felt it mre strngly fr music.
In cntrast t its links t negative emtins, nstalgia desn’t make us sadder. Rather, nstalgia is a defensive respnse t unhappiness, ne that brings relief frm a negative md. Research frm 2006 shws that nstalgia can actually strengthen scial ties, imprve self-esteem, and uplift ur md. Other studies suggest that it can als enhance ur view f life’s meaning, reduce fear f death, bst spirituality, and increase ptimism.
Schlars remain uncertain abut the precise mechanism behind the effectiveness f nstalgia; hwever, sme suggest that reflecting n jyful memries strengthens ur sense f self-wrth and belnging, particularly during times f lneliness r self-dubt. Its pwer lets the happiness f the past vercme the current unpleasantness, ffering a bit f escape frm tugh times. T frm strnger cnnectins, we can establish traditins arund shared past experiences in families, friend grups, and wrkplaces. Observing special ccasins like childhd sprts r pst-cllege meetups can give us smething t lk frward t.
Perhaps because it is s pwerful and cmplex, nstalgia has received magical treatment frm pets and writers. “The past is hidden smewhere utside the realm (领域), beynd the reach f intellect,” Marcel Prust wrte.
32. Why des the authr mentin “autumn leaves” in the secnd paragraph?
A. T illustrate the cmplexity f nstalgia.
B. T emphasize the jyful nature f nstalgia.
C. T clarify nstalgia’s cnnectin t ur senses.
D. T stress individual variety f experiencing nstalgia.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly abut?
A. The mismatch between tw findings.
B. The ptential benefits f nstalgia.
C. The impact f nstalgia n persnal md.
D. The mechanisms behind nstalgia’s effects.
34. What des the authr suggest us d in paragraph 4?

In cntrast t its links t negative emtins, nstalgia desn’t make us sadder. Rather, nstalgia is a defensive respnse t unhappiness, ne that brings relief frm a negative md. Research frm 2006 shws that nstalgia can actually strengthen scial ties, imprve self-esteem, and uplift ur md. Other studies suggest that it can als enhance ur view f life’s meaning, reduce fear f death, bst spirituality, and increase ptimism.
Schlars remain uncertain abut the precise mechanism behind the effectiveness f nstalgia; hwever, sme suggest that reflecting n jyful memries strengthens ur sense f self-wrth and belnging, particularly during times f lneliness r self-dubt. Its pwer lets the happiness f the past vercme the current unpleasantness, ffering a bit f escape frm tugh times.
