One f the best memries I have frm my childhd is the time my mther read t me. When it was cld utside, we sat n the cuch late at night with the fire blazing in the fireplace. I leaned against her shulder and watched the lines n her face disappear as she used her vice t imitate the characters in the bk.
It culd have been her time t relax after taking care f children and a husband all day, but instead, she wuld smile when I slipped ut f my bed and came tipteing back int the living rm after everyne else was asleep. Being the yungest f 11 children, smetimes, it was easy t get lst in the crwd, and I cherished thse mments; I culd sit clse t her and knw it was just my time.
My mther’s lines wuld melt away during thse mments because she wasn't thinking abut cking, cleaning, disciplining, r paying the bills. When she read Cinderella t me, she wuld make me feel the transitin frm ashes t riches because she was using her imaginatin t feel it, t.
When I became a busy parent with my children, I understd my mther’s sacrifices fr sharing that late-night stry time with me. But, smehw, I think she needed it as much as I did.
Years later, I had the pprtunity t visit an elementary schl recently t read t the first-grade class fr Natinal Children’s bk week. Besides helping a child develp a lve fr reading, it is a beautiful way t be clse t yur children and instills a sense f security they never frget. It’s when the parent fcuses n the child withut distractins, and a child can feel that. I did. Fr a mment, we aren’t adults with all the answers and rules, but smene lst in a stry with ur children.
Reading and letting ur imaginatin travel is nt just fr children, either. When I am at my busiest and feel the mst stressed in my life, I find a bk and let myself get lst fr a while. The difference between reading a bk, hanging ut n yur iPad, r lunging in frnt f the televisin t relax is that when yu read a bk, the stry can be what yu imagine it t be, and yu can learn as fast r as slw as yu want t. I like that.
      24.What impressed the authr mst?
A.His mther read t him during his childhd.
B.Mm warmed him with the fire in the fireplace.
C.They sat n the cuch enjying the TV series.

A.He slipped ut f his bed and tipted t mum.
B.He did everything when thers were asleep.

D.He stle mum’s time t relax but enjyed it.

D.It helps adults find answers and rules.

C.Advertising fr Natinal Children’s bk week.
      D.Relieving everyday stress.
