S he reached ut t the AI music platfrm Sun fr help, and the cmpany respnded by

Searching the web r lking arund a majr grcery stre, we’ll find trendy husehld and beauty prducts labelled “natural,” r “green.” We thught we were slwing the chemical pllutin crisis by swapping(交换)the “natural” prducts fr nn-txic(无毒的) cleaning alternatives and ensuring ur beauty prducts nly have natural substances. Yet, studies demnstrate that green cleaning prducts and cmmn sustainable swaps still cntain substances that are harmful t human life.
The use f new chemicals in the hme has expanded rapidly in the past five decades. T meet that mment, the Txic Substances Cntrl Act (TSCA) was passed in 1976, regulating (管理) mre than 80,000 chemicals and their usage thrugh the Fd and Drug Administratin. Yet, the TSCA allwed fr mre than 60,000 chemicals that were n the market t cntinue being used withut additinal safety prtectins. Unlike medicines, which underg strict testing, chemicals in cleaning and beauty prducts ften lack cmprehensive txicity data. While sme states, including Califrnia, require greater prtectins frm risky chemicals, gvernment cntrl is still nt enugh.
One key issue with s-called “green” prducts is their use f vlatile rganic cmpunds (VOCs) which easily escape int the air at rm temperature and can create dangerus indr pllutants. The result? VOCs cntribute t breathing prblems, allergic ( 过敏的) reactins, and headaches. Endcrine(内分泌的) imbalance is anther majr issue hiding in husehld prducts, including thse marketed as safe r sustainable. These chemicals disturb bdy functins, ptentially leading t physical disrders and even certain cancers.
If gvernment cntrl remains limited and cmpanies cntinue t market misleading “green” prducts, what can cnsumers d? While fficial plicies attempted t address chemical risks, significant gaps remain. T reduce expsure t harmful substances, prducers must lk beynd greenwashing and advcate fr systemic change—whether thrugh stricter guidelines r the reintrductin f traditinal, nn-txic alternatives. Until then, it remains up t cnsumers t critically assess the prducts they bring int their hmes and nt their bdies.
What des the authr want t tell us in paragraph 1?
Natural prducts dminate stre shelves.B. Chemical pllutin has wrsened.
C. Cnsumers distrust sustainable swaps.D. Green prducts still have risks.
What was the prblem f the Txic Substances Cntrl Act (TSCA)?
It banned sme useful chemicals.B. It allwed fr the use f risky chemicals.

Female mths ( 蛾)dn’t rely n sight r smell alne. They can als hear stressed plants. Scientists fund that these insects detect ultrasnic (超声的) clicks frm plants under drught stress and use them when chsing egg-laying sites.
Plants prduce airbrne ultrasnic sunds when stressed, These vibratins (震颤), previusly thught t be undetectable by animals, can travel thrugh the air. The Egyptian cttn leafwrm mth, Spdptera littralis, hears these sunds. This species has cars sensitive t the 20 t 60 kHz range, with peak sensitivity arund 38 kHz. That is where many plant clicks fall.
The researchers assumed that female mths might use these plant sunds t decide where t lay eggs. Their experiments cnfirmed this. The study invlved multiple experiments with precise setups. In a n-plant envirnment, mths preferred laying eggs near a speaker playing recrded plant stress sunds. When these mths were deafened, the preference disappeared. This prved that the respnse same frm hearing, nt ther cues (提示). In cntrast, when healthy plants were added and the same sunds were played near ne, the mths chse the silent plant. This indicated that when real plants were present, mths crrectly interpreted the sunds as warnings
Scientists find that withut a visible plant, sund becmes the nly cue. S mths assciate it with plant presence. But when they can see r smell real plants, and ne gives ff stress sunds, they avid it. This shws a cntext-based decisin-making prcess.
This study reveals that plant sunds can guide insect behavir. The researchers think ther animals might als use these sunds. “In this study, we revealed the first evidence fr acustic (声学的) interactin between a plant and an insect, We are cnvinced that this is just the beginning,” nted the researchers. “Acustic interactin between plants and animals dubtlessly has many mre frms and a wide range f rles.”
Why can the Egyptian cttn leafwrm mth hear plant clicks?
They are especially lud.B. They are entirely distinct.
C. They travel via special media.D. They match its hearing range.
What did the mths chse when real plants were present in the experiment?
The speaker playing sunds.B. Plants giving ff n warning signals
C. Healthy plants prducing sunds. D. Plants needing t be watered.
Which wrd best describes the impact f the research accrding t the last paragraph?
A. Far-reaching. B. Cntrllable. C. Shrt-lived.D. Tlerable.
What culd be the best title fr the passage'
Plants give ff measurable stress sunds
Plants make stress sunds fr lack f water
Mths guide cmplex plant-insect interactins
Mths detect plant sunds fr egg-laying chices
