scripts (笔迹) in the Urdu language.
After graduatin, I came t Dubai, UAE. Falling in lve with the architecture and high-rise buildings, I wanted
t sht the amazing beauty frm different angles. S I bught a camera and learned phtgraphy, jined

Seven years ag, while ging thrugh the phtgraphy blgs and lking thrugh thers’ wrks. I read the
term called “light painting”. a phtgraphy technique that allws yu t draw in space. I started experimenting with

A majr reasn why plastic bags and ygurt cntainers aren’t recycled is that it’s much mre frugal t make
these prducts frm the grund up than t recver them. A new recycling technique reprted in the jurnal Science
prmises a cst-effective way t transfrm these cmmn plastic waste items int high-quality liquid fuels.
What makes plastics useful, namely their strength and resistance t high temperatures, becmes an annyance
when it cmes t recycling the materials. The strng carbn-carbn bnds in these plastics require very high
temperatures t break, making the prcess energy-cnsuming. Once the bnds break, the smaller mlecules (分子)
that are created quickly frm new bnds, giving unwanted chemicals. These byprducts then have t be brken
dwn again adding time and cmplexity.
Researchers develped a way t turn these plastics int useful fuels at temperatures belw 100℃, withut
creating any side prducts. They cnduct the chemical reactin in the presence f a new type f catalyst (催化剂)
in a special acidic slutin. In these reactin cnditins, as sn as the carbn bnds in the plastic break apart, new
bnds frm in a cntrlled way, giving ff the chemicals called alkanes. The alkanes can be used either as a fuel r
as raw material fr new plastics. The entire reactin takes place in a single reactin cntainer. It takes nly three
hurs and ccurs at 70℃. By cmparisn, existing recycling techniques typically require tw stages, take much
lnger and need temperatures f ver 200℃.
The catalyst that the researchers use is already used by sme factries. But it will take mre research t knw
whether the technique can be translated t mre ccasins. If s, such a ne-step, lw-cst methd t turn
single-use plastics int chemicals, fuels and high-value materials culd g a lng way in making the plastic
ecnmy sustainable.

11. What is researchers’ attitude tward the technique’s wide applicatin?
A. Critical. B. Mindful. C. Hpeless. D. Optimistic.

Telegraphic (电报的) speech, limited t a nun and verb and usually cntaining little t n grammar, btains
its name frm its brief nature. It is characterized by using nly the mst essential wrds t get the pint acrss, such
as “dg running” instead f “the dg is running”.
Sme parents use telegraphic speech when cmmunicating with their children in the belief that speaking this
way will enable a child t learn t speak faster because nly the key wrds are emplyed. Experts disagree,
hwever. Telegraphic speech may blck the child frm learning prper grammar and wrd meaning, accrding t
Marc Fey, a prfessr at the University f Kansas Medical Center. Fr example, when parents use grammatically
crrect sentences, a child can learn that wrds ending in “-ing” are usually verbs, which gives him r her the ability
t make clear distinctins between verbs and nuns.
T encurage a child t leave the telegraphic speech stage, parents want t repeat what their child says in a
cmplete, grammatically crrect sentence. The Hanen Center recmmends this rule: use nly the sentences with
yur child that yu use with an adult.
A child’s vcabulary dramatically increases during the pst-telegraphic stage. On average, after 24 mnths,
children begin using grammatical cnstructins f varius kinds, such as adding “-ing” t verbs and using define
articles such as “the”. Althugh it may seem that a child’s vcabulary is n decline after leaving this stage, it is
actually the cntrary. Children begin learning new rules fr grammar, which they tend t vergeneralize, thus
leading them t make mistakes, such as the use f “-ed” fr the past tense f all verbs.
Hwever, parents d nt need t wrry abut these mistakes, as the children are ging thrugh a stage that
generally passes after they learn and becme mre familiar with grammar rules. Repeating yur child’s sentence
with a grammatically crrect ne will enhance his r her linguistic abilities faster than if yu d nt crrect his r

her sentence.

A. By ffering statistics. B. By defining a cncept.

13. Why are experts against using telegraphic speech?
A. It harms parent-child chats. B. It mistakes verbs fr nuns.
C. It dismisses cntextual clues. D. It excludes functinal wrds.
14. What can we infer frm the pst-telegraphic stage?
A Linguistic learning shuld be flexible.
B Children’s vcabulary seems stable.
C. Generalizatin shuld nt be prmted.
D. Kids can naturally grasp grammar rules
15. What des the passage suggest parents d?
A. Regard kids as adult speakers. B. Try t use varius vcabulary.
C. Value targeted language inputs. D. Fresee kids’ expressive errrs.
