Heidi Tai, c-funder f Tangara Blue Fundatin , an rganizatin cmmitted t beach cleaning , was puzzled when she and her teammates started finding strange
tire shaped capsules washed ashre alng the Cape Yrk cast, near Australia’s nrtheastern tip. But Tait eventually cnnected with Satlink- a Spanish satellite cmmunicatins cmpany. Satlink’s CPS-enabled buys(浮标), the nes the beach cleaners Kept finding, help cmmercial fishers track their nets, lines etc. Tait had a brainwave that wuld see the buys nt just recycled but reused.
Fr mre than a decade, bat crews wrking farther west, in Australia’s Gulf f Carpentaria, had been telling Tait abut hw abandned fishing nets were circling the gulf, hurting sea creatures. These s-called ghst(幽灵)nets had either brken free frm cmmercial fishing bats and gtten lst, r were cut lse by fishers after getting caught n rcks. Weighing a few tnnes each, the nets that bat crews had chanced upn in the gulf were ften t big fr them t pull ut f the water. They’d typically reprt the finds t the authrities, but by the time anyne with an apprpriately equipped bat culd head ut t get ne, the mass f messy rpe had ften gne frm sight.
Hwever, nce ne f the GPS-enabled buys is attached, it sends its lcatin every few hurs t a website, which lets Tangara Blue Fundatin mnitr the nets’ mvements and warns the rganizatin f danger. S far, the reused GPS trackers have helped Tangara Blue Fundatin recver three ghst nets frm Australian waters.
Tangara Blue Fundatin’s idea t track ghst nets isn’t entirely new; researchers with the Cmmnwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisatin(CSIRO), Australia’s natinal science agency suggested it a decade ag. Taking the idea n bard, the authrities tried using battery-pwered trackers t mnitr a few ghst nets. Tangara Blue Fundatin’s apprach differs in that its recycled buys are slar-pwered and require less upkeep.
      28. What were the tire-shaped capsules riginally used fr?
      A. Remving beach waste. B. Recycling vehicle tires.
      C. Lcating fishing equipment. D. Strengthening satellite signals.

      B. Fighting Threats: The Hidden Harm f Ghst Nets

      D. Prtecting Seas frm Waste: An Activist f Cnservatin

If yu ever feel that the wrld is against yu, yu are nt alne. We all have a tendency t assume that when anything ges wrng, the fault lies in sme great intrigue (诡计)against us. If a c-wrker fails t meet the deadline, he must be trying t beat yu t a prmtin. When Wi-Fi in a cffee shp is nt wrking, the staff must
be lying abut having it just t attract yu in.
But the fact is that the simple cnclusins, which we tend t jump t, are barely
true. Maybe yur cwrker thught tday was Tuesday, nt Wednesday. Maybe the Wi-Fi just went wrng. This is where Hanln’s razr(剃须刀) wrks - a useful mental mdel that ne shuld never cnsider what can be fully explained by neglect(疏忽)as ding harm n purpse.
Applying Hanln’s razr, a helpful tl fr rapid decisin-making and cmprehensin, in ur daily lives makes us less judgmental, and imprves ur reasning skills. Meanwhile, Hanln’s razr allws us t have mre empathy(同感)and teaches us nt t assume the wrst intentin in the actins f thers, the value f which is mst reflected in relatinships, business matters, and persnal happiness.
We all lead cmplex lives where things are cnstantly ging wrng. When this ccurs, a cmmn respnse is t blame the nearest persn and assume they have bad intentin. When smene messes up arund us we frget hw many times we, t, have dne the same. Instead, the perpetratr becmes a surce f intense annyance.
T assume intentin in such a situatin is likely t wrsen the prblem. Nne f us can ever knw what smene else wants. Inability r neglect is far mre likely t be the genuine cause than the desire t hurt. When a situatin annys us, it can be valuable t cnsider if thse emtins are necessary. Often, the best way t react t ther peple causing us prblems is by seeking t cmmunicate with them, nt t dismiss them. In this way, we can avid a repeat f the same situatin.
      32. What can we learn abut Hanln’s razr?
      A. It is a way t slve clleagues prblems. B. It avids taking neglect as intentinal harm
      C. It is a device fr restring Wi-Fi cnnectinD. It identifies wh is respnsible fr mistakes.
      33. What d we usually d when things fail?
      A. We turn t trustwrthy persns. B. We change current situatins.
      C. We deal with negative emtins. D. We misjudge thers’ intentin.
      34. What des the underlined “the perpetratr” in paragraph 4 refer t?
      A. The mind reader. B. The errr makerC. The prblem slver. D. The event planner.
      35. What’s suggested when thers cause prblems?
      A. Lsing temper with them. B. Putting them n the spt.
      C. Exchanging ideas with them. D. Turning a blind eye t them.
