When I first launched my business abut 10 years ag and started wrking in Mexic, I nticed c-wrkers and friends greeting each ther with a brief hug and a kiss n the cheek. S I started ding that t, as I believed it was the custm, until ne day my business partner pulled me aside and said, “Can yu stp hugging and kissing the receptinist every time yu cme int the ffice? I think it sends the wrng message.”
I didn’t understand the culture well enugh t appreciate the unwritten rules. Yet, as CEO f a fast-grwing multi-natinal cmpany, that’s exactly what I needed t learn — and fast. By ding s, yu can build trust and bridge large differences that lead t better prductivity, higher levels f innvatin, and a mre enjyable cmpany culture that represents every culture that makes up yur business. As leaders, it is ur jb t put these issues n the table and hammer thrugh them sincerely ----- n matter the cultural divide.
