She had agreed t teach a blind child wh had never learned t act like a human being, because n ne had ever been able t guide her in any way. N ne culd cntrl Helen. She acted like a yung animal, rushing wildly arund, thrwing things, and hitting anyne whm she culd reach. Wh culd believe that such a child culd be taught?
But Anne Sullivan was a very special kind f teacher. She had been blind during part f her wn childhd and had learned t read Braille, a system f writing that uses raised dts which can be felt by the finger f a blind persn. She had learned t see again after several peratins, but she had never frgtten the experience f being blind.
Miss Sullivan understd Helen. She lved her and believed she culd teach her.
Anne Sullivan culd nt teach Helen Keller t speak until sme ther imprtant things had been learned. The little girl had t learn t cntrl her actins and feelings. She had t learn that she culd nt always d what she wished t d. She had always been able t get what she wished by using frce. The teacher had t change such habits withut breaking the child’s spirit.
Miss Sullivan’s battle began. Smetimes, there was real fighting between the wild child and the strng yung teacher. At last, hwever, the battle was wn by Miss Sullivan, wh had succeeded in shwing Helen that she lved her and wanted t help her. The child and her teacher became friends. There’s a useful cncept frm psychlgy that helps explain why gd peple d things that harm the envirnment: the false cnsensus effect. That’s where we vervalue hw acceptable and prevalent (普遍的) ur wn behavir is in sciety. Put simply, if yu’re ding smething (even if yu secretly knw yu prbably shuldn’t), yu’re mre likely t think plenty f ther peple d it t. What’s mre, yu likely verestimate hw much ther peple think that behavir is bradly OK.
This bias (偏见) allws peple t justify scially unacceptable r illegal behavirs. Researchers have bserved the false cnsensus effect in drug use and illegal hunting. Mre recently, cnservatinists are beginning t reveal hw this effect cntributes t envirnmental damage.
In Australia, peple wh admitted t paching (偷猎) thught it was much mre prevalent in sciety than it really was, and had higher estimates than fishers wh beyed the law. They als believed thers viewed paching as scially acceptable; hwever, in reality, mre than 90% f fishers held the ppsite view. The false cnsensus effect has als shwn up in studies examining supprt fr nuclear energy and ffshre wind farms.
Just as cncepts frm psychlgy can help explain sme frms f envirnmental damage, s t can they help address it. Fr example, research shws peple are mre likely t litter in areas where there’s already a-lt f trash scattered arund; s making sure the grund arund a bin is nt cvered in rubbish may help.
Factual infrmatin n hw ther peple think and behave can be very pwerful. Energy cmpanies have substantially reduced energy cnsumptin simply by shwing peple hw their electricity use cmpares t their neighbrs. Encuragingly, stimulating peple’s natural desire fr status has als been successful in getting peple t “g green t be seen”, r t publicly buy ec-friendly prducts.
As the research evidence shws, scial nrms can be a pwerful frce in encuraging and ppularizing envirnmentally friendly behavirs. Perhaps yu can d yur bit by sharing this article!

D. A smker believes peple generally apprve f smking.

In the US, there is an ld jke: “Tie an Italian’s hands behind his back and he’ll be speechless.” Hwever, Susan Gldin-Meadwin, authr f the bk Thinking With Yur Hands, has a rather different view.
“Almst everyne gestures, nt just Italians,” she laughs. “Cnference interpreters gesture in their little rms, thugh n ne is lking at them. Even peple brn blind gesture when they speak, including t each ther. In the TV series, The Crwn, Lady Diana is warned that her hands may reveal her real emtins, which culd be dangerus and that they have t be tied tgether s she can learn t speak withut gesturing.”
The gesture under discussin is the s-called “c-speech gesture”. It is much mre abstract than such symblic gestures like a finger ver the lips fr “Silence!” r raising a finger t mean “Great!”. Like wrds, such symblic gestures are fixed within cultures (but vary between them). Instead, c-speech gestures that accmpany speech are anther channel f infrmatin and emtin. Fr example, subjects are asked t watch a film in which a cat runs, but they are tld t lie and say it jumped. They may d s in wrds—while their hands will make a running mvement. The c-speech gesture is nt sign languages, either. They have clearly defined wrds and grammar.
And the c-speech gestures have great ptential fr practical applicatins. Fr example, sme students wh fail at a tricky mathematics prblem may gesture in a way that indicates they understand it. Then they shuld be taught differently frm the nes whse gestures suggest that they really understand it.
“Children with language delays caused by brain injuries at r arund birth are likely t catch up verbally by the age f abut 30 mnths, if they gesture as much as their peers (同龄人). Thse wh gesture less are mre likely t need intensive early interventin,” Susan Gldin-Meadwin adds. “C-speech gesturing is nt just abut a lack f cntrl. It is abut thinking and cmmunicatin, and is an aid t bth.”
32. What des Susan Gldin-Meadwin really want t tell us in paragraph 2?
A. Lady Diana is prbably an emtinal wman.
B. Italians are very talkative and gesture t much.
C. It is unnatural fr the blind t gesture t each ther.
D. C-speech gestures are used by all f us unknwingly.
33. What can we say abut sign languages?
A. They are as abstract as c-speech gestures.
B. They have clearly defined wrds and grammar.
C. They are usually learned by human beings naturally.
D. They vary frm culture t culture and persn t persn.
34. What des the authr suggest teachers d in the text?
A. Put enugh trust in students.
B. Encurage students t tell the truth.
C. Observe the c-speech gestures carefully.
D. Teach the tricky prblems in different ways.
35. What is the best title fr the text?
A. C-speech Gestures Are a Vital Part f Cmmunicatin
B. Symblic Gestures Differ Greatly Frm C-speech Gestures
C. C-speech Gestures Are Mre Difficult Than Sign Languages
D. Symblic Gestures Have Great Ptential fr Practical Applicatins

D 33. B 34. C 35. A
根据第二段中的“Cnference interpreters gesture in their little rms, thugh n ne is lking at them. Even peple brn blind gesture when they speak, including t each ther. In the TV series, The Crwn, Lady Diana is warned that her hands may reveal her real emtins, which culd be dangerus and that they have t be tied tgether s she can learn t speak withut gesturing.(会议口译员在他们的小房间里做手势,尽管没有人看着他们。
细节理解题,根据第三段“The c-speech gesture is nt sign languages, either. They have clearly defined wrds and grammar.(c-speech gesture也不是手语。
根据第四段“Fr example, sme students wh fail at a tricky mathematics prblem may gesture in a way that indicates they understand it. Then they shuld be taught differently frm the nes whse gestures suggest that they really understand it.(例如,有些学生在一道棘手的数学题上失败了,他们的手势可能表明他们理解了这道题。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段“C-speech gesturing is nt just abut a lack f cntrl. It is abut thinking and cmmunicatin, and is an aid t bth.(C-speech gesturing不仅仅是关于缺乏控制。 所以A项C-speech Gestures Are a Vital Part f Cmmunicatin(C-speech Gestures 是交流的重要组成部分)符合语境。故选A项。

下文“But ver the past few decades, numerus studies have fund that thrughut their first year f life, when babies are regularly expsed t such talk in additin t nrmal speech, they prcess, learn, and remember wrds presented t them in singsng tnes better.”(但在过去几十年里,大量研究发现,在婴儿出生后的第一年里,当婴儿除了正常的语言之外,还经常接触到这样的谈话时,他们会更好地处理、学习和记忆以曲调呈现给他们的词汇)中的But表明前后是转折关系,此处与上文并列,讲的应该是儿童导向语言得不到重视的情况,故E项(一些医生甚至建议家长避免使用婴儿语言,认为这太傻了)符合语境。
下文“In a 2020 study, researchers fund that bat parents als used a different tne t cmmunicate with their babies.”(在2020年的一项研究中,研究人员发现蝙蝠父母在与婴儿交流时也使用了不同的语调)表明人类并不是唯一使用婴儿语言的物种,故B项(人类并不是唯一使用婴儿语言的物种)符合语境。

这里也可看作Yue pera emphasizes singing和the vcal style is particularly suited fr telling lve stries为并列句,两句为并列关系,用and连接。故填where/and。
根据时间状语“since the viral success f ne theater’s adaptatin f an actin mvie — New Dragn Gate Inn (小旅馆)”可知,本句应用现在完成时,主语为Yue pera为第三人称单数,谓语用单数形式。故填has seen。
故填an。
故填What。
