“Cgnitive cntrl in this situatin is the ability t keep exercising withut being prevented by things like muscle pain,” said study authr Bastien Blain, a researcher at University Cllege Lndn. “And what we fund is that there is an intellectual part invlved in exercising and it has a limited ability. Yu cannt use it frever.” In ther wrds, yur brain will burn ut and affect yur bdy’s ability t exercise.
But that’s nt all. Overwrking that part f the brain als reduced the athletes’ abilities t fight temptatin f immediate self-satisfactin. “Fr example, they were asked whether they preferred $10 nw r $50 in six mnths,” Blain said. “And thse wh ver trained were mre likely t chse $10 nw.” Blain had dne a similar study in 2016. A grup f 58 adults perfrmed hard tasks ver a 6-hur perid, then underwent MRI imaging and were asked if they wuld chse $5 nw r $50 later. In fact, anther study dne by Crnier fund that regular limited exercise was related t reducing the wish t eat. “Thse peple cnsume less and they lst weight. And the mre we saw that change in brain activity due t exercise, the mre weight they lst,” Crnier said.
