Keeping seeds in a bank
Did yu knw that a seed can have its wn “identity card (身份证)”? The “card” shws that the seed is at the natinal crp germplasm bank (国家作物种质库) in Beijing, knwn as China’s seed bank.
A seed’s jurney t the seed bank starts with a census (普查). China’s latest census f agricultural seeds started in 2021 and ended in January this year, reprted CCTV News. Wrkers cllected mre than 139,000 new seeds frm all ver the cuntry. They then arrived at the seed bank. When seeds first cme in, they each get a number fr their “physical examinatin” (检测).
