Fr example, “Where are the restrms?” r “Culd yu please tell 1. me(I) hw t get t the restrms?” are similar 2. requests(request) fr directins t a place. Bth are crrect English, 3. but the first ne sunds less plite. It is nt enugh t just ask a questin 4. crrectly(crrect). We als need t learn hw t be plite by being less direct—r mre indirect—when we ask fr help.
      Usually plite questins are lnger and include mre expressins such as “Culd yu please …?” r “Can I ask …?” It sunds 5. mre plite(plite)t say, “Peter, culd yu please 6. tell(tell)me yur e-mail address?” than “Peter, tell me yur e-mail address.” Smetimes we even need t spend time 7. leading(lead)int a request. Fr example, with 8. a stranger n the street, we might first say, “Excuse me, I wnder if yu can help me” r “I'm srry t truble yu, but …” befre asking fr help.
      It might seem mre difficult t speak plitely than directly. Hwever, it is imprtant 9. t learn(learn)hw t use prper language. This will als help yu cmmunicate better 10. with ther peple.
