By the middle f the last decade, I had been studying Indian Butterflies fr ver 20 years. Hwever, I had never bserved butterflies at high altitudes in the trans-Himalayan habitat. S, in 2015, I decided t visit Ladakh t search fr butterflies.

By trickling streams and wet areas, we fund Small and Dusky Green Underwings, alng with numerus Meadwblues, all part f the Blues family. In alpine meadws, cuntless white and yellw butterflies frm the Yellws and Whites family fluttered(翩翩飞舞)abut. Mre than nce, I'd spt a white r yellw butterfly flying acrss the meadw, and chase(追逐)after it, nly t find myself ut f breath in Ladakh's thin air while the butterfly gracefully flew away. Once, I chased a Butler's Dwarf butterfly fr 15 minutes, managing nly a few phts befre it disappeared. Anther time, I sptted dzens f Cluded Yellw butterflies in an alpine meadw. I spent half an hur chasing them, nly fr them t fly away each time.

Neil Shubin's Ends f the Earth prvides readers with a cmprehensive verview f the gelgy, ceangraphy, glacilgy(冰川学), geplitics, and climatlgy f the planet's plar regins: Antarctica and the Arctic. Shubin writes clearly abut varius cmplex tpics, integrating stries abut his wn fieldwrk experiences in these places and arguing that plar science prvides an angle t see the natural wrld and the extrardinary ways we have cme t knw it.
Shubin explains climate cycles' influence n glbal-scale glaciatin. The "Snwball Earth" hypthesis(假说)suggests Earth was cvered in ice twice: nce 710 millin years ag and a secnd time 660 millin years ag. After each freezing perid, Earth's temperature rse quickly and the ice melted cmpletely. These climatic changes affected the mvement f early human ancestrs, whse travels were influenced by habitat, glacial, and climate changes due t Earth's rbital shifts.
Shubin ntes that the stry f the ples has largely been tld by men wh were explrers first and scientists secnd. T crrect this, he highlights the wrk f three trailblazing wmen researchers in plar gelgy: Margaret Bradshaw, ne f the first wmen t lead field teams in Antarctica; Maureen Raym, wh studies terrestrial(陆地上的)weathering and the carbn cycle; and Mary Dawsn, a palentlgist wh discvered that the Arctic was warm 50 millin years ag and animals culd travel between cntinents.
While these regins seem remte frm civilisatin, Shubin reveals the impacts f ple changes n the ther parts f the glbe. These include increased greenhuse gas release, sped-up glbal warming, changes t animal ppulatins, and the reemergence f diseases like anthrax. One f the mst imprtant impacts is n the Atlantic Meridinal Overturning Circulatin(AMOC), an cean current that brings warm water t the nrth Atlantic and keeps Eurpe "warm" relative t ther lcatins at the same latitude(纬度). A cllapse f the AMOC, which sme experts argue is already ccurring, culd bring clder weather t these cuntries.
"Having led my wn explratins t plar regins fr several decades, I feel the wrk has becme a part f me," writes Shubin. "But the ppsite is als true: ur lives becme part f the landscape itself." Fllwing this line f reasning, we find it imprtant t remember that ur lives in nnplar regins affect what happens at the ples.
      32.What des Shubin's bk aim t d?
A.Share his wn travel stries.B.Offer insights int plar science.
C.Present tips fr plar explratins.D.Discuss the geplitics f the ples.

A.Climate cycles restre plar balance.B.Plar changes escape human cntrl.
C.Human chices shape plar ec-system.D.Turism grwth utweighs plar prtectin.
Patterns are repeated behavirs that shape ur daily lives. We fllw them when we stick t the same mrning rutine, react similarly t stress, r face the same cnflicts with thers. 36 The key is knwing which t keep and which t break.
Harmful patterns, like surfing thrugh scial media fr hurs r aviding difficult tasks, frm because ur brains prefer easy and familiar actins. 37 T break such cycles, start small: replace ne bad habit with a psitive activity, set clear daily gals, and ask friends t supprt yur effrts.
Even gd patterns can becme prblems if we never update them. A study methd that wrked in high schl might nt suit cllege curses. Staying t lng with utdated rutines limits ur ability t adapt. 38 Peple wh refresh their habits regularly tend t slve prblems faster and think mre creatively. Try this: every few mnths, review yur rutines. Ask yurself, "Is this still wrking? Culd there be a better way?" 39
As Walt Disney said, "Prgress needs change. " Breaking patterns feels uncmfrtable at first, but staying stuck in unhelpful habits csts mre ver time. Begin with manageable steps: wake up 30 minutes earlier, try a new hbby, r write dwn yur thughts befre making decisins. Each change weakens unhelpful patterns and builds cnfidence t tackle bigger challenges.
40 Keep thse that help yu grw, but dn't let them becme cages. By balancing useful rutines with the curage t try new things, we create space fr bth stability and prgress. Track yur habits, stay curius, and nte: small changes tday can lead t big imprvements tmrrw.
A.Patterns are very easy t fllw.
      B.Remember: patterns are tls-nt rules.
C.While sme patterns help us, thers hld us back.
D.In the end, breaking patterns creates space fr balance.
E.Sticking t ld patterns risks missing better pprtunities.
F.Each time we repeat these behavirs, they becme harder t change.
G.Simple wrkspace changes and diverse dialgues stimulate new ideas.
