T avid humans, muntain lins in the Greater Ls Angeles area are changing their activity patterns. The big cats living near areas where humans hike, run and cycle are becming increasingly mre ncturnal (夜行的). The findings are detailed in a study published in the jurnal Bilgical Cnservatin.
“Peple are increasingly enjying recreating in nature, which is fantastic,” study c-authr Ellie Blas said in a statement. “This flexibility we see in muntain lin activity is what allws us t share these natural areas tgether.”
Muntain lins are tp carnivrus predatrs (食肉捕食者) that eat a wide variety f meat including deer, wild pigs and rabbits. While muntain lins rarely attack humans, they can still be dangerus t hikers, runners, r cyclists wh spend time in their habitats. The muntain lins in the Greater Ls Angeles area face numerus challenges — busy radways where they’re ften hit by cars, the threat f wildfires, harmful chemicals and disturbed habitats. Generally, muntain lins prefer t avid humans altgether. But in an urban area hme t mre than 18 millin peple, the natural spts where muntain lins live are als heavily used by recreatinists.
“These results are really imprtant in that they shw hw humans may be affecting wildlife in less bvius ways than killing them with vehicles,” Seth Riley, a study c-authr, said in a statement. “The study als cntinues t drive hme the amazing fact that a ppulatin f large field predatrs wanders in ne f the largest urban areas in the wrld. That wuld nt be pssible if muntain lins weren’t able t adjust t human activity.”
Hwever, it’s nt nly up t the muntain lins. Peple have a rle in helping prtect themselves, their pets, and muntain lins by being aware f the high time fr muntain lin activity. Be careful if yu have t drive at night, when muntain lins living in ppulated areas are mre likely t be active.
24.What is Ellie Blas’ attitude tward peple’s recreatin in nature?
A.Unclear.B.Dubtful.C.Intlerant.D.Supprtive.
25.What can we learn abut muntain lins in the Greater Ls Angeles area frm paragraph 3?
A.Their habitats are undisturbed.B.They are under threat.
C.They tend t get clse t humans.D.Their attacks n humans are cmmn.
26.What d Seth Riley’s wrds suggest abut muntain lins’ adaptin?
A.It displays their disastrus impact.B.It is a result f human cnservatin effrts.
C.It is key t their cexistence with humans.D.It has led t the decrease f human activity.
27.What is the authr’s advice fr humans?
A.Enjy activity in ppulated areas.B.Train their pets t get active at night.
C.Avid encunters with muntain lins.D.Drive quickly t pass by muntain lins.

A new type f material that can stre greenhuse gases has been develped by a team f researchers jintly led by Herit-Watt University. The material is made up f hllw cage-like mlecules(空心笼状分子) that have high strage capabilities fr greenhuse gases such as carbn dixide and sulphur hexafluride — a mre pwerful gas that can last thusands f years in the atmsphere.
Greenhuse gases are ne f the main factrs respnsible fr causing glbal warming and climate change. They wrk like the walls f a greenhuse, trapping heat in the Earth's atmsphere. While sme carbn dixide is released naturally, sulphur hexafluride is a man-made gas that traps heat very effectively.
Dr Mark Little, ne f the leaders f the research, says the discvery has the ptential t help slve ur sciety's biggest challenges, such as absrbing and string greenhuse gases.
“Direct air capture f carbn dixide is increasingly imprtant because even when we stp emitting carbn dixide, there's still ging t be a huge need t deal with previus emissins that are already in the envirnment, ” says Dr Little. “Planting trees is a very effective way t absrb carbn, but it's very slw. S we need a human interventin — like human-made mlecules — t remve greenhuse gases frm the envirnment.”
The researchers used cmputer mdelling t accurately predict hw mlecules wuld integrate themselves int the new material, which Dr Little says can be further enhanced in the future thrugh the use f artificial intelligence. He adds, “With the help f artificial intelligence, a sufficient supply f new materials that can assist in slving the mst pressing challenges can be created, withut the need fr them t be tested in a lab.”
Dr Little says the study is an imprtant step in develping ther materials and adds that mlecules with cmplex structures can als be used t remve txic cmpunds(有毒化合物) — knwn as vlatile rganic cmpunds— frm the air and can play an imprtant rle in medical science.
28.What is Paragraph 2 intended t shw?
A.Climate change is wrsening.
B.The new material is difficult t develp.
C.Greenhuse gases are a big prblem.
D.The impact f glbal warming is enrmus.
29.Why is using the new material better than planting trees in absrbing carbn?
A.It is mre ec-friendly.
B.It csts less time.
C.It functins fr a lnger perid.
D.It invlves n human interventin.
30.Why des Dr Little mentin artificial intelligence?
A.It predicts ur sciety's mst pressing challenges.
B.It enables mre new mlecules t be tested in a lab.
C.It prevents humans frm prducing greenhuse gases.
D.It helps create materials used t tackle greenhuse gases.
31.What des Dr Little indicate abut mlecules with cmplex structures?
A.They can benefit mre than ne field.
B.They lead t mre txic cmpunds.
C.They were first used in medical science.
D.They are the cre f rganic cmpunds.

One f the disadvantages f traditinal fitness trackers and ther wearable devices is that their batteries eventually run ut f juice. But what if in the future, wearable technlgy culd use bdy heat t pwer itself?
Researchers frm University f Washingtn (UW) have develped a flexible, durable electrnic mdel that can harvest energy frm bdy heat autmatically and turn it int electricity that can be used t pwer small electrnics, such as batteries, sensrs r LEDs.
The team detailed these mdels in a paper published in Advanced Materials. “I had this visin a lng time ag,” said Mhammad Malakti, UW assistant prfessr f mechanical engineering. “When yu put this device n yur skin, it uses yur bdy heat t directly pwer an LED. As sn as yu put the device n, the LED lights up. This wasn’t pssible befre.” Traditinally, devices that use heat t generate electricity are rigid and easily-brken, but Malakti and his team previusly created ne that is highly flexible and sft s that it can fit in with the shape f smene’s arm.
This new device has three main layers. At the center are rigid thermelectric semicnductrs that d the wrk f transfrming heat int electricity. T prvide stretchability, cnductivity and electrical self-healing, the semicnductrs are cnnected with printed liquid metal traces. Additinally, tiny drps f liquid metal are put int the uter layers t bst heat transfer t the semicnductrs and keep them flexible since the metal stays liquid at rm temperature. Everything except the semicnductrs was designed and develped in Malakti’s lab.
“In additin t wearables, these devices culd be useful in ther applicatins,” Malakti said. One idea invlves using these devices with electrnics that get ht. “Yu can imagine sticking these devices nt warm electrnics and using that extra heat t pwer small sensrs,” Malakti said. “This culd be especially helpful in data centers, where servers and cmputing equipment cnsume substantial electricity and generate heat, requiring even mre electricity t keep them cl. Plus, these devices als wrk backwards, in that adding electricity allws them t heat r cl surfaces, which pens up anther avenue fr applicatins.”
32.What’s a distinct disadvantage f cnventinal devices?
A.They are easy t use up pwer.B.They are unable t harvest energy.
C.They are t flexible t wear cmfrtably.D.They cannt be used t pwer small electrnics.
33.What did Mhammad Malakti think f the new device?
A.It was impractical.B.It was revlutinary.
C.It was time-saving.D.It was energy-cnsuming.
34.What des paragraph 4 fcus n abut the device?
A.Its design prcess.B.Its existing restrictins.
C.Its unique structure.D.Its ptential applicatins.
35.What might be talked abut in the fllwing paragraph?
A.The disadvantages f the new device.
B.The methds f using the new device.
C.The reasns fr applying the new device.
D.The prspect f emplying the new device in mre fields.
