Hwever, their large size can be a limitatin. A team f researchers frm the Massachusetts Institute f Technlgy (MIT) has develped a technique t prduce incredibly lightweight slar cells that can be placed n a variety f surfaces.
These slar cells are made frm nanmaterials (纳米材料) using a kind f electrnic ink. Their thinness allws them t be applied t many different surfaces, such as being placed n the wings f drnes (无人机) t prlng their battery life. These cells are thinner than human hair, yet they are capable f prducing apprximately 18 times mre pwer per kilgram cmpared t traditinal slar panels.
A prblem that researchers are addressing befre these slar cells can be mass-prduced is hw t prtect the slar cells frm xygen and misture (湿气). While traditinal slar cells are prtected by glass, adding such a layer wuld remve the majr advantage f the new ultra-thin slar cells. Scientists are currently explring alternative prtective measures.
Australia is als witnessing big prgress in this field. During the “Charge Arund Australia” prject, scientists drve arund the cuntry in a Tesla that was pwered nly by slar panels n a three-mnth jurney. These slar panels were stred in the vehicle’s trunk and prvided pwer if necessary.

B. Slar panels have been widely used in vehicles arund the wrld.
C. Significant innvatin was made in slar technlgy in Australia.
D. The Tesla was charged using traditinal pwer utlets in the prject.

Fr many years, the Caribbean Island f Rednda was a bare rck with very little wildlife n it. Thanks t lcal envirnmental grups, it has nw been restred t its frmer state and was recently named a prtected area by the gvernment f Antigua and Barbuda.

The new prtected area, the Rednda Ecsystem Reserve, includes the island itself plus the sea arund it as well as seagrass fields and a cral reef. Cnservatin grups will ensure that the island is prtected frm ther invasive species, and strict rules abut fishing in the area will be put in place. Crdinatr Jhnella Bradshaw said, “Rednda shws that rewilding wrks when Mther Nature is left t d what she des best.”
