A device called an electrlyzer (电解器) can split water int hydrgen and xygen. The electrlyzer needs fresh water, nt salt water. T remve the sea salt, Ishaq’s team prpses remving the salt thrugh a special technique, which is suppsed t run n the electricity prduced by the ffshre wind farms.
Ishap’s grup als prpses adding a secnd bnus task t wind farms—t capture (捕获) CO2 frm the atmsphere. Atmspheric CO2 levels are higher than ever, resulting in a wrsening greenhuse effect. A prcess called direct air capture, r DAC, can remve CO2 frm the air. The DAC devices need electricity t run. Fans mve air acrss a slid material that captures CO2 and releases everything else. When the slid material is heated t 100° Celsius, it releases the stred CO2. The same slids can then be reused t grab mre CO2. The electricity made by wind turbines wuld pwer the devices’ fans and the electric biler, t heat the carbn-cllecting slid. T stre the CO2 released, Ishaq’s team prpses injecting it int a type f deep-sea rck. That rck reacts with the gas, turning it int mre rck in 10 t 25 years.

(23-24高二上·江苏苏州·期中)Many peple have wndered why children believe in things like Santa Claus r the Tth Fairy, thinking that children’s minds are easily fled. Hwever, develpmental psychlgy ffers a different perspective.
A study published in Develpmental Psychlgy explres hw children react t ideas that g against what they usually think and if they check these ideas against what they expect. This way f checking, knwn as the “empirical stance,” is apparent by the time children reach elementary schl.
The study invlved nearly 200 children aged 3 t 8 frm Chinese schls. Each child was presented with five differently-sized bjects made frm painted Russian dlls. The children naturally assumed that the smallest dll was the lightest and the largest the heaviest. When asked t identify the heaviest bject, mst children chse the largest ne. An adult then either agreed with the children’s chice r made a claim that the smallest dll was the heaviest. The researchers bserved whether the children wuld change their minds r test the adult’s claim by cmparing the weights f the dlls.
Initially, children seemed t trust the adult’s wrd, with nly a small percentage insisting n their riginal belief. Hwever, when given the pprtunity t explre the dlls, elementary schl children wh had received the surprising claim systematically tested it by cmparing the smallest and largest dlls. This explratin allwed them t generate evidence that culd deny the adult’s claim.
These findings suggest that while children are willing t trust an adult’s surprising claims, their acceptance is temprary. By elementary schl, they systematically test such claims by seeking new evidence, which they then use t update their beliefs.

(2024·广东韶关·一模)The field f anti-ageing medicine has explded in recent years due t discveries abut the fundamental bilgy f ageing which are translated int experimental therapies (疗法) . The latest funtain f yuth t pur frm the lab cmes in the frm f vaccines (疫苗) against age-related cnditins— cancer, heart disease, dementia and mre. The first f these culd be available by the end f the decade. All-purpse anti-ageing injectins are als in develpment.
The upsides f such vaccines are clear. Anything that limits the impact f age-related cnditins n peple wh live int ld age—nt t mentin n the lved nes wh ften end up caring fr them—has t be welcmed. They als prmise t lessen effect n the increasingly scietal and ecnmic csts f these diseases.
But as with all anti-ageing interventins, there are ptential dwnsides t. If millins f peple live significantly lnger, we risk a ppulatin explsin n a planet whse resurces are already verstretched. If the vaccines merely delay the beginning f age-related cnditins, they will nly pstpne the burden n peple and sciety. And as Nbel prizewinner Venki Ramakrishnan tld us earlier this year. a lng-lived sciety is likely t be an unmving ne. These are familiar fears. The cmmn answer is that the gal is increased healthspan. That means peple living fr lnger, free frm the diseases f ld age, then suddenly declining and dying.
We wn’t knw the-utcme until: the therapies have been widely used, at which pint it will be t late t put the genie back in the bttle. But there is really n turning back anyway. If vaccines and ther anti-ageing therapies wrk and are affrdable, they will be used. Besides, nbdy wuld argue that innvatins like antibitics, vaccines and advanced diagnstics were a bad idea even thugh they marked the beginning f ur era f age-related diseases. Similarly, we shuldn’t fear life-saving medical advances n the basis f unintended cnsequences. If we can make lies lnger and less painful, the dwnsides are a price wrth paying.

(2024·云南·模拟预测)My jb is t train rats t find landmines (地雷) s the dangers can be cleared t save lives. I wrk fr a Belgian nn-gvernmental rganizatin called App that perates frm Mrgr, in my hme cuntry f Tanzania. The rats I train are used in mine-clearing prgrams arund the wrld, including in Angla, Azerbaijan and Cambdia.
The animals we use are a species f African giant rat called Cricetmys ansrgei (非洲巨鼠). They are brn in sub-Saharan Africa and are the size f a small cat, which makes them easy t catch. They als live lnger than ther rats, which is helpful fr the prgram, because it takes between nine mnths and a year t train ne fully.
My clleagues and I use a methd called clicker training: we teach the rats t relate a click with a fd reward, and then use clicks t gradually reward their behaviur. Rats are naturally curius, s they will explre, and their great sense f smell means they can find buried landmines.
T teach the rats what t lk fr, we place small amunts f TNT explsives in sme tea eggs and mix them with nes filled with ther things. We reward the rats fr tuching these, then mve n t reward them nly when they tuch a tea egg filled with explsives, rather than nes filled with ther things, such as hair, flwers and s n. The rats need t perfrm perfectly at each stage f training befre they mve t the next stage. In the final stage, we use real landmines in a training field.
As trainers, we build a cnnectin with the rats we train. Sme are slw learners; thers knw the prcess very quickly. Mst f the rats make it thrugh, eventually. I wrk with ur resident scientists t cntinually fllw and imprve ur training prgram, because the rats are s clever that they can be smarter than trainers!

    A.They’re quickly trained.B.They live fr up t a year.
C.They’re easily accessible.D.They can be seen cmmnly.
10.What’s the key t the training?
A.Exercising rats’ sense f smell.B.Linking behavir and rewards.
C.Increasing the difficulty gradually.D.Making the rats get used t the click.
11.What can be inferred frm the training prcess?
    A.Mst rats are quick learners.
B.The training wn’t stay the same.
C.Real landmines aren’t used in training.
D.Rats can find ut all the explsives accurately.

A.Hw rats cntribute t saving life.B.Why giant rats can be useful.
C.Hw rats are trained t find explsives.D.Why we use clicker t train rats.
    Passage 5
(2024·浙江杭州·一模)Fr many, travel isn’t just abut the destinatin — it’s abut making the mst f the jurney. Hwever, fr a lt f peple, the jurney is ften ruined by an uncmfrtable experience ften accmpanied by vmiting, knwn as mtin sickness. If yu’ve ever felt the unwelcme urge t vmit while reading r using yur device in a mving vehicle, yu’re nt alne. Recgnizing this cmmn issue, Apple has stepped up t ffer a revlutinary slutin; the Vehicle Mtin Cues feature fr iPhnes and iPads.
Mtin sickness ccurs when there is a discnnect between what yur eyes see and what yur bdy feels. When yu’re in a mving vehicle, yur bdy senses mtin thrugh its vestibular system (the inner ear), but if yur eyes are fcused n a still screen that desn’t reflect this mvement, the brain receives mixed signals. This sensry cnflict can lead t dizziness, nausea, and verall discmfrt - symptms all t familiar t mtin sickness sufferers.
Apple’s new Vehicle Mtin Cues feature is designed t bridge this gap and bring relief t thse likely t experience mtin sickness. This revlutinary feature wrks by displaying animated dts, arund the edges f yur screen, which mve at the same time and speed as the mtin f yur vehicle. These mving cues help keep the mtin yur bdy feels in line with what yur eyes see, effectively reducing the sensry mismatch that causes mtin sickness.
The magic lies in the simplicity and effectiveness. The animated dts mve in cnsistency with the vehicle’s mtin, prviding a visual representatin f the mvement yur bdy is experiencing. By matching the visual input with the physical sensatins f mtin, yur brain is less likely t experience the cnfusin that leads t sickness.
Early reprts and user feedback indicate that Vehicle Mtin Cues is receiving high praise fr its effectiveness. S next time yu embark n a jurney, whether shrt r lng, remember that Apple’s gt yur back — r rather, yur brain - helping yu make the mst f every mile with ease and cmfrt.

(2024·广东佛山·一模)My daughter is a smart kid, but she’ d never read an entire chapter bk fr pleasure. She had never develped any habit f classic deep reading — with tw eyes in frnt f paper, and nthing else ging n. When I faced this truth, it felt like a parenting failure. Even thugh we’d read many strybks when she was yunger and we lived in a huse stuffed with bks, I hadn’t managed t instill (灌输) ne f life’s fundamental pleasures in my kid.
As a lifelng reader, I understand hw reading enhances the fabric f ur experience. Yet my daughter claimed t dislike reading. I tld her reading nvels was the best way t learn abut hw peple’s insides wrk. She said she culd learn mre frm the peple n scial media, wh were all abut spilling their insides. I said bks ffered strytelling. She said, “Smartphnes.” I said bks taught histry. She said, “The Internet.”
I culd nt win ur debates, because few f my daughter’s arguments against reading seemed wrng t me. Yes, reading is a way t discver new wrlds — s is the entire Internet. But that’s nt why I wanted my daughter t pick up a bk. It was abut experiencing a certain magic. Yu knw when an authr describes a feeling yu didn’t have, and a hundred lightbulbs g ff n the tp f yur head? I wanted her t have a chance at feeling that. A screen-based medium can’t create this kind f relatinship because, by its nature, the medium must fill in all the blanks fr yu. Bks leave space fr blanks — and fr the internal inventin they can inspire.
S I decided t cut thrugh all the reasning with a cld, hard practicality: cash. I tld my11-year-ld I wuld pay her $100 t read a nvel within a mnth. Of curse, she said yes. She finished the bk in seven days. Then she even asked fr the sequel (续集) — at n extra charge. Will this lead t her reading Little Wmen? Will it result in a lifelng habit f reading? I dn’t knw. What I d knw is that I finally pened a new dr fr her t the printed page. That feels like the best mney I ever spent.

(24-25高三上·陕西汉中·期中)Cats have lng been knwn fr their independence, but this desn’t mean they dn’t frm strng emtinal bnds with their wners. Studies have shwn that cats have such ability partly due t a special hrmne (激素), which is released during scial interactins and bnding.
Cats are knwn fr their purring (猫发出的呼噜声), and rubbing against their wners as a way f shwing affectin. They may als fllw their wners arund, bring them “gifts” like dead mice, r lick them with their tngues. While these behavirs may nt be as bvius as a dg waving its tail, they are clear signs f a cat’s appreciatin fr their wner.
As a cat wner, yu can d smething t strengthen yur bnd with yur belved friend.
Creating a safe and cmfrtable envirnment fr yur cat is essential t building a strng bnd. Cats need a space where they feel secure and at ease, with access t fd, water, and a litter bx. Additinally, cats are natural climbers and lve t be up high. Cnsider installing sme cat shelves t give yur cat a bird’s eye view f the surrundings.
Playing with yur cat is nt nly a fun way t spend time tgether, but it can als strengthen yur bnd with it. Cats lve t play tys like string, feathers, r balls that can get them mving and engaging with yu. Every cat is different and may have their wn unique preferences. Sme cats prefer interactive tys, while thers enjy playing with sl tys.
Cats still value their persnal space. It’s imprtant t respect yur cat’s bundaries and nt frce it int interactins it’s nt cmfrtable with. Recgnizing and respnding t yur cat’s bdy language can help yu understand its needs. Fr example, if yur cat’s ears are flattened, it may be a sign that it’s feeling stressed. In these situatins, it’s best t give yur cat sme space and allw it t relax n its wn terms.
21.What have studies fund abut cats?
A.They are the mst independent animals.

    Passage 8
(24-25高三上·福建·期中)Hearing a sng might bring t mind the last time we saw a live band perfrm it. We may remember hearing the sng n a rad trip with high schl friends, and be brught back t the sights, smells, and feelings f that experience. All f these experiences have been referred t as “music-evked (引起) thughts”, and recent research has sught t understand why certain thughts ccur in respnse t certain music.
In ne study, my wrkmates and I cmpared thughts evked by instrumental excerpts (节选) f unfamiliar classical, electrnic, and pp/rck music. Overall, listeners reprted thughts 76 percent f the time. Hwever, the ccurrence f thughts varied acrss music types. Classical and electrnic music evked mre thughts than pp/rck music. This desn’t necessarily mean pp/rck music types are unengaging. Rather, types like classical and electrnic music might prvide greater visual mental imagery, whereas pp/rck music might invite listeners t engage in different ways, like dancing r singing alng.
We als fund links related t the cntexts with which we assciate music. Electrnic music tended t evke thughts abut clubbing and vide games, pp/rck music evked thughts abut live perfrmances and driving, and classical music thughts abut mvies and weddings. Classical music led listeners t great capability t imagine fictinal stries, as it was ften cmpsed specifically with the aim f evking an imagined stry.
These cntextual assciatins may vary acrss different cultures. A recent study revealed that fictinal stries reprted while enjying classical music were highly similar in tw grups f yung adults in the US, but the stries generated by listeners in Germany in respnse t these same excerpts were significantly different. This suggests that even when asked t generate entirely fictinal stries, listeners are influenced by their prir assciatins with music. This speaks t general theries that ur memries play a substantial rle in shaping imaginatin.
Understanding hw different music evkes different thughts is imprtant fr varius practical uses. Fr instance, a dctr might aim t trigger (触发) specific types f thughts via music when wrking with a client, r an artist might engage a mre creative thinking mde by listening t a particular piece f music.
25.What can we learn abut “music-evked thughts” frm Paragraph 2?
A.They vary with different types f music.B.They are few ccurrences in music listening.
C.They invlve peple in dancing t the music.D.They strike peple during engaging music play.
26.What is unique abut classical music?
A.It was assciated with clubbing.B.It prvided listeners with real cntexts.
C.It was intended t stimulate imaginatin.D.It was played mre slwly than ther music types.
    27.What greatly influenced listeners’ imaginatin?
    A.The develpment level f their cuntry.B.The previus music-related experiences.
C.The educatin they received while yung.D.The types f stry they were asked t create.

    Passage 9
(24-25高三上·福建·期中)We are living in a streaming paradx (悖论). As bth an entertainment business mdel and a cnsumer experience, streaming has becme a victim f its wn success. It is a pattern shift that is belved fr giving us mre chices than ever befre, while als making it harder than ever t actually enjy that abundance.
At first, streaming felt revlutinary and attractive. Fr a while, Netflix, like any gd tech prduct, simply wrked — n yur laptp, yur phne, even a stranger’s TV. Sn after, platfrms and studis entered expensive bidding wars ver new titles and funded mre shws and mvies than ever befre in attempts t acquire new sign-ups. Executives felt they had n chice but t adapt t the n-demand subscriptin mdel, while cnfessing that the business f streaming seemed shaky.
Nw we are living thrugh the cntractin (缩减). The simple truth is that it is incredibly expensive t prduce and distribute cntent at Netflix scale and withut a head start. Streaming platfrms are dealing with subscriptin fatigue: Only s many peple are willing t pay fr s many platfrms. Althugh the streaming arms race has unlcked mre studi back catalgs and resulted in mre riginal cntent, actually accessing all the ptins means shelling ut mre mney.
Cutthrat studis may behave as if streaming is a zer-sum game, but fr mst cnsumers, it’s nt. Multiple acquaintances f mine have been reduced t nce-unthinkable practices, like keeping spreadsheets t track hw much mney they’re spending n all their different streaming subscriptins. Fr the studis, writers, and actrs themselves, the streaming mdel is taking away the mney that creative peple used t make ff reruns, amng ther things. It’s pssible that the prmise f streaming — and the instability it intrduced — may hld back the entire film and TV industry fr years t cme.
In the lng run it’s entirely pssible that the mdel is unprfitable. What is left is a feeling f being presented with limitless chice while als experiencing a vague sense f lss. A fundamental experience f being alive n the internet in 2024 is getting everything yu asked fr and realizing that the end prduct is nt what it seems.
49.Hw did streaming appeal t users at first?

    A.The impact f streaming.B.The challenge f studis.
    C.The cmplaint f viewers.D.The cnfusin f cnsumers.
52.What is the authr’s attitude tward the future f streaming?
    A.Dismissive.B.Unclear.C.Psitive.D.Cncerned.

(24-25高三上·江苏南京·期中)Sme peple described the civil rights era, in the 1950s and 1960s as “the greatest singing mvement in American histry”. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called music “the sul f the mvement”.
Integrating singing int the cause was a deliberate chice by the mvement’s rganizers. It tk advantage f a rich cultural traditin f music-making in cmmunities with African American rts. Singing spirituals (圣歌) tgether was a key mtivating activity during meetings, church services, sit-ins and freedm rides. Singing tgether made peple feel strng. Singing inspired activists t stand up t the verbal (言语的) and physical assaults, t the plice dgs, and t the high-pressure fire hses aimed at them. Singing spirituals united peple and fcused them n their gals—freedm and equality.
The mvement’s sngs were mstly updated traditinal African American spirituals. “We Shall Overcme” is prbably its mst famus sng. Later n, the sng, slightly changed t “We Will Overcme”, was taught t labr rganizers in the 1940s at the Highlander Flk Schl. By 1952, a recrding f the sng was released, but the wrds had been changed again t “We Shall Overcme”.
In the late 1950s, the sng was taught t civil rights activists at the Highlander. That’s where King first heard it. At the end f meetings, everyne wuld rise, jin hands, and sing the sng. Tday, it has spread arund the wrld and can be heard wherever freedm and justice are threatened.
“Free at Last” was anther ppular civil rights sng. Like “We Shall Overcme”, it inspired singers t cntinue with a difficult struggle. It sang f the dream and prmise f freedm, urging everyne t jin hands and t nt give up hpe. King ended his famus “I Have a Dream” speech by quting a line frm it: “Free at last, free at last! ”
Taking a cue frm the strengths f lder African American traditins, music expressed the sul f the civil rights mvement. Sngs and singing prved essential nnvilent weapns in the struggle fr freedm.

B.Music—sul f the civil rights mvement
    C.Freedm—dream f African Americans
    D.Singing—language t unite Americans

T stand up fr the trees, Suncast Waterkeeper has teamed up with Exspanse, Artificial Intelligence, Dimensinal Gematics and New Cllege f Flrida n a mangrve mapping prject, which will track mangrve grwth and cnditins alng nrthern Sarasta Bay, Palma Sla Bay, suthern Tampa Bay, Terra Ceia Bay and the Manatee River.
Training fr the prject starts this mnth, when Suncast Waterkeeper and New Cllege data science graduate students will learn hw t perate drnes (无人机), using phtgrammetry t measure and map the lcal mangrves. (Phtgrammetry is the act f btaining precise measurements frm phtgraphs.)
The training, led by Dimensinal Gematics, will prvide a standard perating prcedure fr cmmunity and student-based mapping using drne imagery. Exspanse, based ut f Lngbat Key, will then prvide its mdeling platfrm t New Cllege data science students fr the hands-n experience f building, training and emplying mdels using data frm the prject. Thse mdels will shw the extent and density (密度) f the surveyed mangrves. Lking at the density f the trees ver time will prvide insight int the verall health f mangrves in the area.
The mangrve mapping prject cmes at a time when prtecting wetlands is significant, as Manatee Cunty is currently cnsidering remving plicies frm its Cmprehensive Plan and sectins f the Land Develpment Cde, which will allw fr destructin f lcal wetlands and wetland buffer areas. Suncast Waterkeeper has put tgether a petitin (请愿书) which will be sent t the Manatee Bard f Cunty Cmmissiners. The hpe is that public knwledge abut the prject will bring a drive fr the cmmunity t preserve and imprve the cnditin f lcal wetlands, because nce they’re gne, they’re gne fr gd.
13.Why are mangrves imprtant t lcal peple?

例如,开头可能会出现 “Nwadays, mre and mre peple are realizing the imprtance f envirnmental prtectin.(如今,越来越多的人意识到环境保护的重要性。)”
在开头的主题句如 “Exercise is beneficial t ur health in many ways.(锻炼在很多方面对我们的健康有益。)”
