African elephants are Earth’s largest land animals. They are very intelligent and highly scial. A recent study says that numbers f African elephants sharply decreased ver abut fifty years. The researchers described their wrk as the mst cmprehensive (全面的) study f the tw African elephant species-the savanna elephant and frest elephant. The study used data gathered at 475 areas in 37 cuntries frm 1964 thrugh 2016.
It fund that savanna elephant ppulatins fell by abut 70 percent n average and frest elephant ppulatins drpped by abut 90 percent n average. The researchers mainly blame the drp n illegal hunting. Hwever, the reprt als says ppulatins f each species increased in ther places because f wildlife prtectin prgrams.
“A lt f the lst ppulatins wn’t cme back, and many lw-density ppulatins face cntinued pressures. We likely will lse mre ppulatins ging frward,” said Gerge Wittemyer. He is a Clrad State University prfessr wh wrks with the cnservatin grup Save the Elephants.
Illegal hunting f animals is als called paching. Elephant pachers usually kill the animals in rder t remve their tusks (象牙). These prized bjects are then sld n illegal markets, driven mstly by demand in Asia.
Paching has mstly affected frest elephants. Its ppulatin is estimated (预估) t be abut ne-third that f savanna elephants. Paching has been especially damaging ppulatins in nrthern and eastern Africa, such as Mali, Chad and Nigeria. But, in suthern Africa, elephant ppulatins rse at 42 percent f the studied areas.
“We have seen real success in a number f places acrss Africa, but particularly in suthern Africa, with strng grwth in ppulatins in Btswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia,” Wittemyer said. He credited prtectin effrts by gvernments and independent rganizatins fr the grwth.
The study did nt prvide a cntinent-wide ppulatin cunt. Instead, it estimates ppulatin trends (趋势) in each f the studied areas. Wittemyer said, “While the trends are nt gd, it is imprtant t recgnize the successes we have had and cntinue t have. Knwing hw and where we can be successful in prtecting elephants is as imprtant as recgnizing the seriusness f the drp they have experienced.”
28. What is the main factr in the reductin in the number f tw African elephant species?
A. Legal hunting.B. Prfit-driven killing.
C. Climate change.D. Gvernment measures.

根据文章第二段“The researchers mainly blame the drp n illegal hunting. (研究人员主要将数量下降归咎于非法狩猎。)以及第四段中“Illegal hunting f animals is als called paching. Elephant pachers usually kill the animals in rder t remve their tusks (象牙). These prized bjects are then sld n illegal markets, driven mstly by demand in Asia. (非法猎杀动物也被称为偷猎。大象偷猎者通常为了获取象牙而猎杀大象。这些珍贵物品随后在非法市场上出售,主要是受亚洲需求驱使。)”可知,两个非洲象物种数量减少的主要因素是以盈利为目的的捕杀。故选B项。
【29题详解】推理判断题。根据文章第五段“Paching has mstly affected frest elephants. (偷猎对森林大象的影响最大。其数量估计约为草原大象的三分之一。偷猎对北非和东非的大象种群造成了特别严重的破坏,如马里、乍得和尼日利亚。但是,在非洲南部,42%的研究区域大象数量有所增加。)”可知,本段通过对比非洲北部、东部和南部大象数量的不同变化来说明偷猎对非洲大象种群的影响,因此第五段主要是通过对比来展开论述的。故选A项。
根据文章最后一段“The study did nt prvide a cntinent-wide ppulatin cunt. Instead, it estimates ppulatin trends (趋势) in each f the studied areas. (该研究没有提供整个非洲大陆的大象数量。相反,它估计了每个研究区域的大象种群趋势。)”可知,对非洲大象进行研究的目的是了解不同地区大象种群的趋势。故选C项。
【31题详解】推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“While the trends are nt gd, it is imprtant t recgnize the successes we have had and cntinue t have. Knwing hw and where we can be successful in prtecting elephants is as imprtant as recgnizing the seriusness f the drp they have experienced. (尽管趋势并不乐观,但认识到我们过去和现在所取得的成功是很重要的。了解我们如何以及在何处能够成功保护大象,与认识到它们所经历的数量下降的严重性同样重要。)”可知,Wittemyer认为我们要从成功的保护工作中吸取经验,故可推断出从Wittemyer的话中我们可以得出要吸取成功的保护工作经验这一结论。故选C项。

Replacing just five minutes a day f sedentary (久坐不动的) activities r lw-intensity mvements with mderate-t-vigrus physical activity culd help lwer bld pressure, a new study finds.
Small changes in yur daily rutine - like sitting, walking, r standing a bit less, and instead ding activities t really get yur heart rate up - are enugh t make a difference, the research suggests.
“Our findings suggest that, fr mst peple, exercise is key t reducing bld pressure, rather than less strenuus frms f mvement such as walking,” lead study authr Janna Bldgett, PhD, f the Institute f Sprt, Exercise, and Health at University Cllege Lndn, said in a statement.
“The gd news is that whatever yur physical ability, it desn’t take lng t have a psitive effect n bld pressure,” Dr. Bldgett said. Yu dn’t necessarily have t hit the gym, Bldgett added. Yu can imprve yur bld pressure with all types f mderate-t-vigrus exercise, like taking stairs r cycling.
Researchers examined data frm nearly 15,000 vlunteers wh had their bld pressure taken and wre activity trackers fr 24 hurs t recrd all f their mvements, including sleep and sedentary time. Overall, participants spent an average f abut 7. 1 hurs sleeping, 10.7 hurs sitting r being sedentary, 3.2 hurs standing, 2.7 hurs walking, and just 16 minutes participating in mderate-t-vigrus physical activity like cycling, jgging, r climbing stairs.
This small change reduced systlic bld pressure (收缩压) - the “tp” number that indicates hw much pressure bld exerts against artery walls when the heart beats-by an average f 0.68 mmHg. It als lwered diastlic bld pressure (舒张压) - the “bttm” number that indicates the pressure bld exerts against artery walls when the heart rests between beats - by an average f 0.54 mmHg, accrding t findings published in the jurnal Circulatin. While five minutes extra f exercise is the minimum amunt needed t see any change in bld pressure, scientists als fund that it might nt take mre than an extra 10 r 20 minutes a day f exercise fr peple t see clinically meaningful imprvements in bld pressure with the pssibility t affect their verall health.
