Yang Li, a native Mia wman passinate abut embridery, wns a flk culture prducts shp that sells Mia embridery, batik clth, and silver jewelry. At first, the small shp struggled as there were many similar prducts n the market. Yang realized the need fr a unique brand t stand ut frm the cmpetitin. During a hike in Fanjing Muntain in July 2011, Yang accidentally cut her hand n a thrny leaf. This gave her an idea; “There are leaf-vein bkmarks and leaf-vein paintings. Why has nbdy created leaf-vein embridery yet?”
Obviusly, the reasn behind this is that embridering n leaves requires delicate skills that few pssess. Yang Li cllected thusands f leaves frm Fanjing Muntain and prcessed them by steaming, biling, and tanning them t expse their veins. While the leaves becme sft, they are als extremely fragile. The biggest challenge was imprving the flexibility f the leaves. After cnsulting lcal expert Shen Min, she learned that saking them in acidic water culd make them tugh enugh fr embridery.
Thrugh cntinuus learning and practice, she succeeded in creating her first piece f leaf-vein embridery, which perfectly cmbines traditinal embridery patterns with the natural textures f the leaves. By adding traditinal designs frm the Mia, Tujia, and Dng ethnic grups, she prduced art that exhibits a unique aesthetic appeal f traditinal embridery with cntemprary craftsmanship. Yang ntes that typically, nly thse with decades f embridery experience can independently cmplete the entire leaf-embridery prcess, which is fewer than 20 peple in Tngren frm 2011 t nw.
Tw years later, Yang pened an embridery prcessing factry and ffered jbs t mre than 500 laid-ff female wrkers, rural wmen, and peple with disabilities. “Guizhu is a prvince with a large number f ethnic grups and has a lng histry f ethnic embridery skills,” she says. “I will keep ding the leaf-vein embridery fr the rest f my life because it is meaningful.”

Is mdern fruit cultivated (培育) t be sweeter than in the past? The shrt answer is yes, thugh the lnger answer is mre cmplicated. Sme f the mst pwerful evidence that fruit is sweeter than befre cmes frm zs.
In 2018, it was reprted that Melbume Z in Australia had stpped giving fruit t mst f its animals because cultivated fruit was nw s sweet that it was causing tth decay (蛀牙) and weight gain. The mnkeys at the z were prvided with a lwer-sugar vegetable-based diet instead f bananas.
Amng fruit cultivatrs, the wrd “quality” is nw rutinely used as an equal fr “high in sugar” (thugh firmness, clr and size are als cnsideratins). In 2010, in an article lking at ways t enhance the sweetness f fruit using “mlecuiar (分子的) appraches”, a grup f plant scientists f the Republic f Krea wrte that “in general, the sugar cntent” f many fruits is nw higher than befre “wing t cntinuus selectin and breeding”. Mdern apple varieties, the scientists nted, were n average sweeter than lder nes.
Cultivatin isn’t the nly reasn that mdern fruit is sweeter; there’s als climate change. Research frm Japan fund that since the 1970s, with rising temperatures, Fuji apples (which were already a sweet variety) have becme significantly sweeter and sfter. The lead researcher, Tshihk Sugiura, said that “if yu culd taste an apple harvested 30 years ag, yu wuld feel the difference”.
It is smetimes claimed that the sweetness f mdern fruit is nt due t higher sugar cntent s much as the fact that the bitterness and surness f wild fruit have been steadily cultivated ut f it. There’s a grain — but nly a grain — f truth in this. Studies f wild apples d indeed suggest that sme ancient varieties were just as high in sugar as a mdern Pink Lady r Hneycrisp. The difference is that there was much wider variatin in sugar cntent acrss wild apples, whereas the mdern supermarket apple seldm drps belw a certain level f sweetness.
28.Why did Melburne Z stp giving fruit t mst f its animals?
A.The animals preferred a vegetable- based diet.
B.Mdern fruit did great harm t animals’ teeth.
C.The sugar cntent f mdern fruit is lwer than befre.
D.The flavr f mdern fruit was nt gd fr the animals.

C.The sweetness f mdern apples is equal t the average f lder nes.
D.Mlecular appraches are adpted t add the sweetness f mdern fruit.
30.What d studies f wild apples in the last paragraph suggest?

B.The sugar cntent f wild apples varied greatly.
C.The sweetness f mdern apples is f the same level.
D.Fruit is sweet because bitterness in it has disappeared.
31.What’s the best title fr this passage?

C.Fruit Is Sweeter: It’s Nt a Miscnceptin.

Yu see a fantastic ffer, like a htel rm. Yu decide t bk. Then it turns ut there is a service fee. Then a cleaning fee. Then a few ther extra csts. By the time yu pay the final price, it is n lnger the fantastic ffer yu thught.
Welcme t the wrld f drip pricing — the practice f prmting smething at an attractive headline price and then, nce yu’ve cmmitted t the purchase prcess, hitting yu with unavidable add-ns that are “dripped”.
In mst cases, yu see thrugh all additinally added mandatry fees, and even thugh yu culd relinquish the deal, yu chse t bite the bullet and cmplete the deal. Resistance t the idea f starting the search all ver again is nt simply a matter f laziness r indecisin. There’s a prfund psychlgical mechanism at play here, called the present bias.
In the paper, Ding It Nw r Later, ecnmist Matthew Rabin defines peple’s present-biased preference via an example f chsing between ding seven hurs f unpleasant activity n April 1 r eight hurs tw weeks later: If asked n February 1, mst peple will chse the earlier ptin. But cme April 1, given the same chice, mst f us tend t put ff wrk till April 15. In simple terms, the incnvenience f ding smething “right nw” ften feels disprprtinately large. Beynd the challenge f starting ver, there’s anther psychlgical phenmenn that drip pricing uses - lss aversin. Imagine yu’re bking tickets fr a shw. Initially attracted by the headline price, yu’re nw presented with different seating categries. Seeing a VIP ticket is within yur budget, yu decide t frk ut. But then, during the checkut prcess, the drip begins. Yu realize yu culd have chsen lwer-categry seats, but by this stage, yu’ve already imagined yurself enjying the shw frm thse nice seats. Ging back t a cheaper seat will feel like a lss.
Buyers wuld benefit frm a ban n drip pricing. Many cuntries are taking steps t prtect cnsumers frm drip pricing. The effectiveness f such measures, hwever, is uncertain. Nnetheless, yu can hpefully make a mre infrmed decisin by understanding why the strategy wrks.
32.Which f the fllwing is an example f drip pricing?
A.FlightHub intrduces a bnus after yu chse their flight.

B.Peple like t grab earlier rewards and delay immediate csts.
C.Peple struggle t make a decisin amng multiple chices.

D.T intrduce tw psychlgical phenmena abut spending.

(欢迎来到滴漏式定价的世界——一种以吸引人的标题价格促销商品的做法,然后,一旦你承诺购买过程,就会用不可避免的“滴漏式”附加条款来打击你。)和最后一段中“Buyers wuld benefit frm a ban n drip pricing. Many cuntries are taking steps t prtect cnsumers frm drip pricing.
