As much as we like t think abut nature embdying balance, the universe is actually filled with imbalance, t. Let’s take the supernva (超新星) fr example. Tw stars rbit each ther. One f the stars is lder, called a “white dwarf,” while the ther star is a bit yunger. Their mutual gravitatinal interactin (相互引力相互作用) pulls material ff the yunger star and dumps it nt the surface f the white dwarf. If enugh material falls nt the dwarf, the stuff dumped n t the white dwarf begins t “burn”.
If the cnditins are right, yu always burn up the same amunt f material that gets added. If the dnr star is dumping t much material nt the dwarf, the burning runs ut f cntrl. It cnsumes nt just the new material n the white dwarf’s surface but the whle f the dwarf star itself. S much energy is released s quickly that the star finds itself wildly ut f balance. In an instant, it becmes a super-ht ball f unbalanced pressure, BOOM! A supernva is brn.
Clser t hme, a similar but different kind f prcess happens in vlcanes. Vlcanes are brn when magma (熔岩) frm deep in the Earth makes its way slwly t the surface thrugh cracks in the planet’s crust (地壳). The heat frm the magma builds up a massive pressure imbalance inside the muntain. It’s that imbalance that drives the BOOM, the vlcanic eruptin that rips a zillin tns f rcks away and sends ash 15 miles int the sky.
But here’s the thing: Supernva, vlcanes and all thse ther explsins in the universe are nt just awesme sights. They are all essential players in csmic (宇宙的) evlutin. Supernva create a lt f the elements in yur bdy that are essential t life. N supernva, n yu. And vlcanes are essential t evlutin f the planet, including the cycling f greenhuse gases like CO2 that make Earth habitable. N vlcanes, n yu.
    8. What des the underlined phrase “the dnr star” refer t in paragraph 2?
    A. The yunger star.B. The lder star.
    C. The supernva.D. The white dwarf.
    9. What factr leads t bth the birth f supernvas and vlcanic eruptin?
    A. Ht magma.B. Burning material.
    C. Unbalanced pressure.D. Gravitatinal interactin.
    10. What can we learn abut the explsins in the universe in the last paragraph?
    A. They evlve as players.B. They create human bdies.
    C. They are awesme sights.D. They are necessary t life.
    11. In which sectin f a website can yu find this passage?
    A. Prfile.B. Science.C. Health.D. Ecnmy.
A 9. C 10. D 11. B
根据第一段中“One f the stars is lder, called a “white dwarf,” while the ther star is a bit yunger. Their mutual gravitatinal interactin (相互引力相互作用) pulls material ff the yunger star and dumps it nt the surface f the white dwarf. 故选A项。
根据第二段中“S much energy is released s quickly that the star finds itself wildly ut f balance. In an instant, it becmes a super-ht ball f unbalanced pressure, BOOM! A supernva is brn. 一颗超新星诞生)”和第三段中“The heat frm the magma builds up a massive pressure imbalance inside the muntain. It’s that imbalance that drives the BOOM, the vlcanic eruptin that rips a zillin tns f rcks away and sends ash 15 miles int the sky.
根据最后一段“But here’s the thing: Supernva, vlcanes and all thse ther explsins in the universe are nt just awesme sights.
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“As much as we like t think abut nature embdying balance, the universe is actually filled with imbalance, t.
    D
