When I returned with the utfit n, Jasn was waiting. “It lks just like I thught it wuld. It’s pretty n yu, Mm,” Jasn said.

Jasn prbably wndered why I was s emtinal ver the gift. It made me think back n the gifts I’d ignred. Maybe the peple wh gave me the gifts saw smething in me that I didn’t see in myself. That pened me up t change and grwth.

Eating a plant-based diet has been shwn t be very gd fr yur heart and yur verall health. In fact, a recent study fund a yung persn culd live an additinal 13 years by eating mre vegetables and legumes (豆类), as well as whle grains, fruit and nuts.
That makes the findings f a new analysis f the diets f nearly 400,000 UK adults published Mnday in the jurnal Frntiers in Nutritin rather shcking: Eating veggies, especially cked nes, desn’t reduce yur risk f heart disease ver time.
“Our large study did nt find evidence fr a prtective effect f vegetable intake n the ccurrence f CVD (cardivascular disease),” said Qi Feng, an epidemilgist at the University f Oxfrd, in a statement.
While the study fund eating raw veggies culd prtect against heart disease, cked vegetables did nt. Any benefit went away when researchers factred in lifestyle factrs such as physical activity, educatinal level, smking, drinking, fruit intake, red and prcessed meat cnsumptin, and use f mineral and vitamin supplements.
“Instead, ur analyses shw that the seemingly prtective effect f vegetable intake against CVD risk is very likely t be accunted fr by bias (偏差)… related t differences in sciecnmic situatin and lifestyle,” Feng said.
Dn’t start celebrating yet, veggie haters. Experts in the UK and United States quickly tk exceptin t the study’s cnclusin.
“Althugh this study fund that eating mre vegetables wasn’t assciated with a lwer risk f heart and circulatry diseases nce ther lifestyle and ther factrs were taken int accunt, that desn’t mean we shuld stp eating vegetables,” said Victria Taylr, a senir dietitian at the British Heart Fundatin, in a statement.
“The results are nt surprising. Picking ut ne single cmpnent and assuming just adding it t the diet, e. g., vegetables, is nt likely t result in the desired effect,” Alice Lichtenstein, directr and senir scientist at Tufts University’s Cardivascular Nutritin Labratry, tld CNN in an email.

I have taught medical students fr 40 years in many cntexts—n hspital runds, during patient appintments, running small grup discussins, and teaching large classes. I have lectured n tpics that range frm bichemical pathways t lifestyle diseases t nutritin science and the bilgy f aging.
The mst pleasing part f teaching is passing alng the less visible aspects f being a physician—hw t shw respect fr patients and be a true caregiver. I d this by telling stries abut my clinical experience during lectures and the pay-ff fr me is engagement with students. The pandemic and its cnsequent shift in hw students learn has changed all f that.
In my 40 years f teaching, I’ve never seen such a dramatic change. The pandemic frced first- and secnd-year medical students int virtual classes, causing in-persn attendance t dive. As I watched this shift t remte learning, I wrried abut its impact n future dctrs. The engagement I nce saw in the classrm is nw hidden behind screens, and I find myself wndering if my stries and lessns are having the same impact.
The shift t virtual learning als wrries me abut the future f medical educatin. The persnal nature f medicine, ften seen in clinical skills training and up-clse bdy studies, is hard t btain virtually. I’m als cncerned abut ther crucial aspects f early medical schl educatin that I’ve seen benefit students ver the years—things like research pprtunities, specialty explratin and vlunteer wrk. These activities are much harder t d remtely. These experiences are vital fr develping well-runded, skilled dctrs wh can prvide thrugh treatment.
Finally, there is a very real threat t medical educatin in changing the rle f the physician prfessrs. Dctrs are unusual amng prfessins in the expectatin that they will teach medical students regardless f where and what specific field f medicine they practice. Remve prfessrs’ satisfactin that cmes with face-t-face teaching and we risk lsing their cmmitment, much f which is ften dne n an entirely vluntary basis.
32. What did the authr enjy mst in the past 40 years?
A. Telling attractive stries.B. Lecturing n many tpics.
C. Sharing his values and attitude.D. Being experienced and respected.
33. What is imprtant fr the future f medical educatin?
A. Appealing nature f medicine.B. Well-runded clinical trainings.
C. Hands-n nn-virtual experiences.D. Students’ special persnal talents.
34. Accrding t paragraph 5, what wrries the authr?
A. Medical prfessrs might be expected t teach wherever they are.
B. Medical prfessrs might nt fully devte themselves t teaching.
C. Medical prfessrs might lse mst f the students’ satisfactin.
D. Medical prfessrs might change their rle t be student-centered.
35. What is the main idea f this passage?
A. The issues with reduced face-t-face lecture attendance.
B. The debates ver necessity f virtual medical educatin.
C. The prblems f medical students,lw emplyment rate.
D. The cncerns abut the shift t virtual medical educatin.

M: By next year yu’ll be talking in their accent — just wait! (7)

W: I was never a sprts fan. I just dn’t understand the passin peple have. Everyne in a city cheers fr a team, and the players n the team are nt even frm that city. Next year, thse players will prbably be n anther team.
M: I think many peple wh dn’t like sprts have never played sprts themselves. (9) Fr example, if yu have played sccer, yu can better appreciate the skills and mves f the players n the field.
W: That des make sme sense. Fr example, I never liked drinking wine until I learned hw it is made. (10) Then, I began understanding where the small differences in taste and smell cme frm. Befre that, I thught peple were just wasting mney. (10)
M: Persnal experience can really change yur pinin f smething.

W: I’ve always hated English literature lectures because they’re s bring, (11) even thugh I’m nt taking the class nw.
M: I did t. The subject has always been s difficult fr me. But this year, I tk a class n Shakespeare. Did yu knw that dzens f phrases we use every day cme frm him, and we dn’t even knw it?
W: I’ve heard f that. “By the skin f yur teeth”, fr example —just barely getting ut f a bad situatin.
M: Actually, that ne is nt frm Shakespeare. “Clthes make the man”, “What’s dne is dne”, “melt int thin air” — these all cme frm Shakespeare. The nly prblem is, while literature is interesting, it’s nt very useful in ur careers, unlike ecnmics r math. By the way, d yu take math curse? (12)
W: Yes, (12) I think it is interesting. But what yu said just nw is nt exactly true. All these phrases can help break the ice when we’re meeting new peple. Being gd at cnversatin is ne f the mst imprtant career skills, n matter what yur jb is. (13)
M: “Break the ice”. That’s anther phrase frm Shakespeare.
★ By the skin f yur teeth (侥幸成功;勉强做成),由于牙齿(teeth)没有皮肤(skin),所以“the skin f yur teeth”指最小的可能的程度。

W: Gd mrning. I’m calling abut the jb that was in the paper last night. (14)

W: Well, I thught it was just right fr me.
M: Really? Um... Culd yu tell me a little abut yurself?
W: Yes. I’m 23. I’ve been wrking abrad.
M: Where exactly have yu been wrking?
W: In Geneva.
M: Oh, Geneva, And what were yu ding there? (15)
W: Secretarial wrk. (15) Prir t that, I was at university in the UK.
M: At which university?
W: The University f Manchester. I have a degree in English.
M: Yu said yu’ve been wrking in Geneva. D yu have any special reasn fr hping t cme back? (16)
W: I thught it wuld be nice t be near my family. (16)
M: I see, and hw d yu see yurself develping in this jb?
W: Well, I’m ambitius. I d hpe that my career as a secretary will eventually lead me int management.
M: OK, thank yu very much. I’ll cntact yu later abut the results. Gdbye.
W: Thank yu. Gdbye.

Phtgraphy is the art f capturing (拍摄) mments, understanding light cnditins, and telling creative stries. But I’d say it’s als ne f the easiest and mst rewarding art frms. At this exhibitin, we’ll first shw yu the rts f phtgraphy technlgy. S, please, everyne — fllw me. (17) Alng with the wrld’s leading phtgraphy museums in Chicag, USA and Lianzhu, China, this museum here in the Netherlands features ne f the mst extensive histrical phtgraphy cllectins. (17) (18) In the year 1021, a mdel f the first-ever camera was created. Althugh it culdn’t capture phtgraphs, its mirrr imaging was the basis f camera technlgy. Six hundred years later, these camera rms were researched and made smaller. But it wasn’t until 1826 that film paper was used t create the wrld’s first pht. Only 60 years later, film cameras went frm being the size f a car t just a handheld bx, as Kdak launched the first cmmercial camera. (19) Film phtgraphy then became essential t capturing histry and telling humanity’s stries. In 1991, the first cmmercial digital camera was made. And then, in 2000, tiny cameras were first put n cell phnes. Anyway, I knw we have sme yung phtgraphers visiting tday, s let’s lk thrugh this exhibitin’s camera cllectin, and I’ll let yu all try them ut! (17) (20)
