Have yu ever struggled with a task because tw arms just weren’t enugh? If s, yu might like a new device that can lend a helping hand literally(真正地). Yu wear this rbtic arm, and then cntrl it with the muscle yu use t breathe.
Currently, the rbtic arm is wrn in the middle f yur chest, but it can als be placed abve yur shulders r at yur side, depending n what yu want t d with it. Engineer Giulia Dminijanni, part f a team at the Swiss Federal Institute f Technlgy in Lausanne (EPFL), helped create the device.
In the past, rbtic arms were designed t replace lst arms, with brain signals cntrlling them. This new device allws users t cntrl an extra arm while still using their real arms. Fr this reasn, the team designed it t be cntrlled by breathing.
The rbtic arm can sense the mvement f yur diaphragm (膈膜), the muscle that helps yu breathe. When yu breathe in, the rbtic arm stretches; when yu breathe ut, it retracts(缩回). Breathing nrmally keeps the arm still.
Befre making the actual arm, the EPFL team created a virtual reality (VR) mdel. Vlunteers learned t cntrl this virtual third arm using breath sensrs. The tests shwed that peple culd easily lk arund and talk while using the arm.
After successful VR tests, the team built a simple rbtic arm that functins like the virtual ne. Early tests shwed that users culd cmfrtably perate the extra arm alngside their wn arms.

Determined t make a difference, Peter started planning a special celebratin fr the upcming Children’s Day. He spent weeks preparing, using the mney he had saved frm his varius jbs t buy tys, clthes and snacks. He als reached ut t his friends and the cmmunity, asking them t cntribute anything they culd t make the Children’s Day f children in rphanage special. As the day drew clser, Peter decrated the rphanage with clrful ballns, wanting t create a jyful atmsphere that the children wuld remember fr years t cme. When Children’s Day finally arrived, the rphanage was filled with laughter and cheers as the children played games, enjyed delicius treats, and experienced the warmth f a celebratin fr the first time.
After the celebratin, Peter brught ut carefully wrapped gifts. The children’s eyes lit up with jy as he handed each f them a present.
