I have a strng faith that the pain is almst gne but the feeling f success will stay frever. I was amng the 38,000 runners wh participated in the marathn (马拉松赛跑), the largest event f its kind in Asia.
My decisin t participate in the marathn was because f the insistence f my wife, wh had run the half-marathn previusly. This year, she wanted me t participate alng with her. Unexpectedly, her applicatin gt rejected while mine gt accepted.

Finally, n 16th January 2011, I ran and cmpleted the half-marathn. And I did it in my ld shes.
Nw, when I think abut it, it all seems s easy. All I had t d was t picture cmpleting the run in gd time in my mind.
What I have learned frm the experience is that cmpleting a marathn is like any ther gal in life — largely a mind-ver-matter phenmenn. In ther wrds, unless yu believe yu can reach yur gal, yu’ve lst even befre yu begin. N dubt, factrs such as hard wrk, experience and talent help t a greater r lesser degree. But withut yur belief that yu will get there, every gal remains difficult t achieve.

Accrding t a new study by a British university, learning a secnd language can lead t an increase in yur brain pwer. Researchers fund that learning ther languages changes grey matter density (灰质密度). This is the area f the brain which prcesses (加工) infrmatin. It is similar t the way that exercise builds muscles. The study als fund the yunger peple learn a secnd language, the greater the effect is.
A team led by Dr. Andrea Mechelli frm University Cllege Lndn (UCL), tk a grup f Britns wh nly spke English. They were cmpared with a grup f “early bilinguals” wh had learnt a secnd language befre the age f five, as well as a number f later learners.
Scans shwed that grey matter density in the brain was greater in bilinguals than in peple withut a secnd language. But the lnger a persn waited befre mastering a new language, the smaller the difference was.
“Our findings suggest that the structure f the brain is changed by the experience f learning a secnd language,” said the scientists. It means that the change itself increases the ability t learn.
Prfessr Dylan Vaughan Jnes f the University f Wales, has researched the link between bilingualism and maths skills. “Having tw languages gives yu tw windws n the wrld and makes the brain mre flexible.” he said. “Yu are actually ging beynd language and have a better understanding f different ideas.”
The findings were matched in a study f native Italian speakers wh had learnt English as a secnd language between the ages f tw and thirty-fur. Reading, writing, and cmprehensin were all tested.
