Lindsey Stallwrth, a high schl student frm Alabama, is n her way t a prmising career in palentlgy (古生物学) due t an unexpected discvery n family prperty. Fr years, she had been cllecting fssils n their land in Mnre Cunty, unaware f significant scientific value. Hwever, her teacher at the Alabama Schl f Math and Science, Dr. Andrew Gentry, a palentlgist himself, tk an interest when she shwed him her cllectin.
“Upn examining the fssil shark teeth Lindsey presented, I quickly identified ne and became eager t learn abut its rigin,” said Andrew.
Lindsey guided her teacher thrugh the rural area where she had unearthed varius relics, including shark teeth. Befre lng, they encuntered an especially significant find n the grunds: a large bne frm a 34-millin-year-ld whale skeletn! This led the pair t launch the huge prject f uncvering the rest f the bnes. “Assuming the entire skeletn is present, it may require several years fr us t have the entire animal back in the lab,” Andrew explained.

Scientists have discvered that tamarin mnkeys use a specific tree resin (树脂) as medicine. In the Brazilian Atlantic Frest, scientists fllwed several grups f them t cllect data. During ne f these daily studies, tamarin mnkeys were bserved rubbing their bdies n the trunk f a tree. At first, researchers thught that they were marking their territry, a cmmn behaviur in this species. Btanical experts later cnfirmed that the tree was a species f cabreuva, which is well knwn fr its medical prperties.
Researchers decided t place camera-traps in different sites at the ft f the tree t recrd future visits by tamarin mnkeys. The recrds surprisingly shwed that many animals living in the frest visited it. Ttally, ten species were bserved. Fr many f them, it was the first time that behavirs similar t self-medicatin had been bserved. Mre surprisingly, ne species spread resin n each ther’s fur in pairs. In general, the species seemed t specifically visit the tree t acquire the resin and seemingly benefit frm it, either healing their wunds r fighting back parasites (寄生虫).

During ne f these daily studies, tamarin mnkeys were bserved rubbing their bdies n the trunk f a tree. At first, researchers thught that they were marking their territry, a cmmn behaviur in this species. Btanical experts later cnfirmed that the tree was a species f cabreuva, which is well knwn fr its medical prperties.
