The lng-term impact f prekindergarten is well established and widely knwn. 50 years ag, 123 three- and fur-year-ld African Americans frm lw-incme families in Ypsilanti, Michigan tk part in an experiment. Abut half attended a pineering early educatin prgram called Perry Preschl, while the cntrl grup did nt. Researchers have been able t track the lives f mst f these children ever since. The kids wh went t Perry Preschl did better in schl, made mre mney, and were healthier than the cntrl grup.
The benefits f Perry Preschl didn't just stp with thse children. A study published last summer by Nbel Prize-winning ecnmist James Heckman and his clleagues takes the implicatins f Perry a giant step further. This research shws that the children f the Perry preschlers are als better ff because f their parents' experience.
As the Perry preschlers grew up, they became better educated and develped greater sci-emtinal skills than the cntrl grup. They became better parents.
