One day I typed int ChatGPT all abut my upset feelings and it instantly respnded, ffering a list f practical advice. Nwadays millins f peple are already turning t ChatGPT and specialist therapy (治疗) chatbts fr cnvenient and inexpensive mental health supprt.
Sme experts say this is a bn. After all, AI, undisturbed by embarrassment and burnut, might be able t express empathy (同理心) mre penly and tirelessly than humans. Indeed, empathy is ne f ur species’ defining qualities, develping as it did in pace with scial interactin.
One recent analysis abut empathy lked at 52 studies published between 1980 and 2019, which shws that the empathiser must first be able t recgnize hw the ther persn is feeling. They must als be affected by thse emtins and differentiate between themselves and the ther persn, grasping that the ther persn’s feelings aren’t their wn while still being able t imagine their experience.
On the first pint, in recent years, Al-pwered chatbts have made prgress in their ability t read human emtins, mst pwered by large language mdels (LLMs) that wrk by predicting which wrds are mst likely t appear tgether based n training data. In this way, LLMs like ChatGPT can seemingly identify ur feelings and respnd apprpriately mst f the time. But when it cmes t the ther criteria, AI still misses the mark in many ways. Empathy is interpersnal, with cntinued feedback helping t perfect the empathiser’s respnse, which als requires sme degree f intuitive (直觉的) awareness f an individual and their situatin.
All f this helps t explain cnversatins like the nes I had with ChatGPT. At the end f the day, despite talking t multiple chatbts nline, I did what I knew I had t d all alng: I picked up my phne and called a friend.
    32. What des the underlined wrd “bn” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Trap.B. Prize.C. Blessing.D. Challenge.
    33. What des the recent analysis shw abut empathy?
    A. It calls fr clear cmmunicatin.B. It starts with emtin identificatin.
    C. It rules ut individual difference.D. It depends n rich imaginatin.
    34. What can AI d accrding t paragraph 4?
    A. Prvide data-driven feedback.B. Recgnize ne’s real desire.
    C. Update large language mdels.D. Predict ne’s behavir by intuitin.
    35. What des the authr think f ChatGPT?
    A. Its develpment shuld be sped up.
    B. Its intelligence is winning mre favr.
    C. Its applicatin shuld be strictly managed.
    D. Its artificial kindness is n match fr humans’.

It’s fair t say that many parents fcus a lt f energy — and wrry! — n prtecting their small kids frm risky situatins. But this past weekend, reprter Ellen Barry published a piece abut a grwing mvement in Britain: peple are bringing risk int the playgrund experience.
36 It cntrasts with sheltering kids with the less demanding facilities typical f playgrunds. As Barry puts it, including limited risk int ur kids’ playtime may be taking a step tward healthier child develpment. He cites a sign psted utside the Princess Diana Playgrund in Lndn’s Kensingtn Gardens. 37 They are intentinally prvided, s that yur kids can develp an appreciatin f risk in a cntrlled play envirnment.
38 Cmmunities in Australia, Canada, and Sweden are making similar changes t their playgrunds. They want kids t learn and grw by facing challenges they can handle, Barry reprts.
Cntrlled risk at play time — where, after all, the children are still under clse supervisin (监护) — wuld seem a gd additin t the free-range child mvement. In that initiative, it’s suggested that free-range kids take walks in nature r ride public transprtatin n their wn. 39
Besides, cnsidering child develpment frm an evlutinary (进化的) view ffers mre backing. Our lng jurney thrugh time and nature has made us wh we are tday, with behavirs, thughts and bdies shaped. 40 Lking at this bigger picture helps us understand why peple make such a chice.
    A. Kids learn best while playing.
    B. Mre explratin is expected.
    C. It says it’s kay fr kids t take sme risks.
    D. Limited-risk playgrunds begin t catch n.
    E. The idea is t help kids becme tugh and strng.
    F. Generally, they are encuraged t get utside and acquire independent skills.
    G. It is therefre imprtant t let kids d things that match hw they naturally grw.
