Smething strange has been happening t me lately: Wmen in the street have been telling me I'm brave.
My act f curage isn't much-I just stpped clring my hair. I had brwn hair that started ging gray when I was 30. S, like a lt f wmen, I
started dyeing (染)it. It was expensive and time-cnsuming. And my hair grws fast, s I needed t g back t the hair saln(美发厅) every 5 weeks.
Many peple seem t enjy hlding nt their yuth fr as lng as pssible, giving ff the impressin that they dn' t have much wisdm r many
accmplishments. But ur hair starts t turn gray and suddenly we start spending $500 r mre a year t cver smething ur male clleagues dn’t
    need t cver.
Of curse, Peple shuld d what they want with their wn bdy -my mther is 91 and still has "blnd" hair, and why nt? I just wish mre f us
wuld feel that it was OK t be urselves, because ging gray has dne mre fr me than saving me time and mney.
I like my natural hair, just as it is. I like hw it has gt curly and full again. It is recvering after years f being damaged by chemicals. I als like that it
has given me sme needed attitude in a sciety that makes yuth seem s imprtant, while being against maturity. It reminds me that I'm nt a kid
anymre - and this isn't a bad thing. Nt being a kid anymre means I read the bks I want, and nt the bks i feel I shuld read. It means nt wasting
my time at events I dn' t need t attend when I’d rather be with my family and friends.

When I see my hair in the mirrr, it's a reminder that my time is limited, and I shuld spend it ding what matters. There's nthing shameful abut
grwing lder And pretending it's nt happening is a way f giving up ur pwer.
I see my gray hair as a little act f rebellin(反叛)against the idea that peple lse value as they age, instead f gaining it. I see gray hair as my "flag"
and I'm letting it fly prudly.
【小题1】Hw des the authr feel abut clring hair?
    A.It shws peple’s great curage.
B.It is a gd way t hld nt yuth.
    C.It shws wisdm and accmplishments.
D.It is nt wrth the time and mney spent n it.
【小题2】What shuld we d when we grw ld accrding t the authr?
    A.Give up ur pwer.
    B.Pretend t be still yung.
    C.Accept it and act psitively.
D.Read as many bks as pssible.
【小题3】What is the authrs main purpse in writing this passage?
A.T explain why yuth is valued.
B.T share her pinin n grwing lder.
C.T stress the imprtance f different attitudes.
D.T analyze the advantages and disadvantages f aging.
【小题4】Which can be the best title fr the passage?
    A.Hlding Ont Yuth
    B.Dyeing Yur Hair
    C.Gaining Value With Age
    D.Valuing Wisdm Of Age
Every festival has its wn meaning. Labr Day, fr example, celebrates the value f hard wrk. Thanksgiving is abut shwing thanks t peple
arund yu. And Valentines’ Day is a time when yu express lve t yur lved nes. But smehw it nw seems that all festivals we just care abut
ne thing — shpping. And that can be a big prblem.
“In a way, ver-cnsumptin (过度消费) is the mther f all ur envirnmental prblems,” Kalle Lasn nce tld CNN. Lasn is the rganizer f Buy
Nthing Day, a day set up in Canada in 1992 t fight against unhealthy spending habits, and has nw becme an internatinal event. It’s held n the
day, which is knwn as Black Friday — a famus shpping day in the US and Canada.
Yu can see the irny (讽刺) here.
Even thugh the idea f Buy Nthing Day was brught up 26 years ag, we seem t need it nw mre than ever. It’s just as Lasn said, all the
different kinds f pllutin in ur lives tday — bad air quality, the reductin f frest area, endangered animal species, and plastic bags fund in the
cean — seem t be the same cause: ver-cnsumptin.
The latest example is the Singles’ Day shpping craze f Nv 11, which saw a new sales recrd. But as Nie Li, a campaigner at Greenpeace, tld
Reuters, “Recrd-setting ver-cnsumptin means recrd-setting waste.” And it was reprted that last year the Singles’ Day packages left mre than
160,000 tns f waste, including plastic and cardbard. The Cllins Dictinary has als just named “single-use” its Wrd f the Year, pinting ut the
prblem that there’re t many things we tw ut after nly using them nce.
S, Buy Nthing Day might nly be here fr ne day a year, but it’s nt just t remind us t the a break frm shpping n that day, but t change
ur lifestyle cmpletely, fcusing n fun “with peple we care abut” rather than wasting mney n useless things.
【小题1】What’s the authrs purpse f writing the first paragraph?
A.T express the peple’s lve fr all festivals.
B.T talk abut the meaning f the festivals.
C.T appreciate the value f the festivals.
D.T bring ut the tpic f the passage.

    C.T prevent ver-cnsumptin.
【小题3】What’s Nie Li’s attitude twards the shpping craze?

【小题4】What can be a suitable title fr the passage?

I was brn and raised in England in a culture where privacy and “keeping yurself t yurself” were valued traditins. Speaking t strangers was
nt encuraged. Peple were mst hspitable and friendly.
Hwever, I have been lucky enugh t spend sme time in bth Italy and the US, where I fund traditins f hspitality and pliteness t be very

The ther ccupants f the carriage smiled and ndded at me and made me feel quite welcme amngst them. I feel that if this had been in England, a
freigner wh made a mistake wuld nt always be s kindly treated.
Transprt als featured in the differences I nticed between English and American culture. I flew t New Yrk n a plane with mainly English
passengers. We sat tgether in near silence. Nbdy spke t me nr, as I expected, t anyne else they did nt knw. They felt it was nt plite t
interrupt smene else’s privacy. Hwever, when I travelled acrss the United States, whether by plane r bus, I was never shrt f cnversatin.
Cnversatin was ging n all arund me and whever sat next t me was happy t intrduce themselves and ask me abut myself. They bviusly felt
