Few dishes taste better than a juicy cut f beef. One survey in 2014 fund that steak was Americans’ favrite fd. Unfrtunately, by cking s many cws, humans are cking themselves, t.
The influence f fd n greenhuse-gas (GHG) emissins (排放) can slip under the radar. In a survey in Britain last year, the share f answerers saying that “prducing plants and meat n farms” was a “significant cntributr” t climate change was the lwest amng ten listed activities. Yet tw papers published this year in Nature Fd find that fd, especially beef, creates mre GHGS than previusly thught.
This March researchers frm the Eurpean Cmmissin and the UN’s Fd and Agriculture Office released a study estimating that the glbal fd system was respnsible fr 34% f GHG in 2015. The paper assigns the full impact f defrestatin t the agriculture that results frm it;includes emissins after fd is sld(such as frm waste and cking);and cunts nn-fd crps like cttn. But even when the authrs tk away emissins frm surces like transprt and packaging they still fund that agriculture generated 24% f GHGS.
Anther recent paper, by Xiaming Xu f the University f Illinis and eight c-authrs, allcates (分配) this impact amng 171 crps and 16 animal prducts. It finds that animal-based fds accunt fr 57% f agricultural GHGS, versus 29% fr fd frm plants. Beef and cw’s milk alne made up 34%. Cmbined with the earlier study’s results, this implies that cattle prduce 12% f GHG emissins.
Relative t ther fd surces, beef is uniquely carbn-intensive. Because cattle emit methane (甲烷) and need large grasslands that are ften created by cutting mre frests, they prduce seven times as many GHGS per calrie f meat as pigs d. This makes beef a bigger share amng fds than cal is amng surces f electricity.
The simplest way t cut beef utput is fr peple t eat ther animals instead, r becme vegetarians. But cnvincing peple t give up their burgers is a tall rder.
Frtunately, lab-grwn meats are mving frm Petri dishes (培养皿) t high-end restaurants. Ding withut beef frm live cattle is hard t imagine, but the same was true f cal 100 years ag. Lab-grwn meat culd play an essential rle in slwing a climate disaster.
    28. The underlined phrase in paragraph 2 can prbably be replaced by ____________.
    A. be detected by radarB. be ignred by peple
    C. be explained by expertsD. be cntrlled by gvernment
    29. What can we learn frm the passage?
    A. Lab-grwn meats will replace ther meats in the future.
    B. Quitting steak may be an efficient way t reduce GHG.
    C. Prducing beef generates mre GHG than burning cal.
    D. Beef transprt is the majr cntributr f GHG emissins.
    30. The authr mentins the cal in the last paragraph just t shw ____________.
    A. the imprtance f bth lab-grwn beef and calB. the difficulty t prduce the lab-grwn meat
    C. the necessity f beef frm live cattleD. the future f lab-grwn beef
B 29. B 30. D

根据第二段“In a survey in Britain last year, the share f answerers saying that “prducing plants and meat n farms” was a “significant cntributr” t climate change was the lwest amng ten listed activities.”(去年在英国进行的一项调查中,回答者认为”农场生产植物和肉类”是造成气候变化的”重要因素”的人数比例,在所列的10项活动中排名最低。)

This makes beef a bigger share amng fds than cal is amng surces f electricity.”(相对于其他食物来源,牛肉是唯一的碳密集型食品。 以及最后一段“Lab-grwn meat culd play an essential rle in slwing a climate disaster.”(实验室培育的肉类可能在减缓气候灾难方面发挥重要作用)由此判断出,不吃牛排可能是减少温室气体排放的有效方法。故选B项。

Fr mst f their histry, rbts have been inelegant mechanical devices sitting ut f sight in factries. Things are starting t change, hwever. Rbts are leaving carefully managed industrial settings fr everyday life and, in the cming years, will increasingly wrk in supermarkets, clinics, scial care and much mre.
They culd nt be cming at a better time. Many industries are facing a shrtage f labr — the demand fr wrkers has recvered much faster than expected and sme peple have left the wrkfrce, particularly in America. Warehusing (仓库) has grwn rapidly thanks t the e-cmmerce bm. Rbts are picking items ff shelves and helping peple pack a rising numbers f bxes. They are even beginning t mve slwly alng sme pavements, delivering gds r fd right t peple’s drs. Nwadays, shrt f wrkers but with lts f elderly flk t lk after, having mre rbts t bst prductivity wuld be a gd thing.
And yet many peple fear that rbts will destry jbs. A paper in 2013 by ecnmists at Oxfrd University was widely misinterpreted as meaning that 47% f American jbs were at risk f being autmated.
In fact, cncerns abut mass unemplyment are verblwn. The evidence suggests rbts will be ultimately beneficial fr labr markets. Japan and Suth Krea have the highest rbt usage rate but very strng wrkfrces. A Yale University study that lked at Japanese manufacturing between 1978 and 2017 fund that an increase f ne rbt unit per 1,000 wrkers bsted a cmpany’s emplyment by 2.2%. Research frm the Bank f Krea fund that rbtizatin mved jbs away frm manufacturing int ther sectrs, but that there was n decrease in verall vacancies.
Fr all that, the march f the rbts will bring big changes t wrkplaces, t. One suppsed example f “bad autmatin” is self-service checkuts in supermarkets, because they displace human wrkers. But rbts culd perfrm unpleasant wrk. Checkut staff wh retrain t help custmers pick items frm aisles (传送带) may find that dealing with peple in need is mre rewarding than spending all day swiping barcdes in frnt f lasers. In additin, as jbs change, wrkers shuld be helped t acquire new skills, including hw t wrk with and manage the rbts that will increasingly be their clleagues.
The ptential gains frm the rbt revlutin are huge. In Capek’s play, the rbts revlt(反抗)against their human masters and cause mass unemplyment and wrse. Hwever, the beginnings f the wrld’s real rbts have nt matched Capek’s assumptin. S there is n need t cncern abut their future.
    31. The authr mentins the tw researches in paragraph 4 t ____________.
    A. prve an argumentB. intrduce an apprach
    C. present an assumptinD. highlight an experiment
    32. What can we infer frm the passage?
    A. New skills will be acquired by wrkers with the help f rbts.
    B. The mre rbts are used, the greater emplyment it can bring.
    C. Rbts will betray their human masters and cause wrse prblems.
    D. Checkut staff in supermarkets may be happier t d with peple in need.
    33. Twards wide spread f rbts, the authr is ____________.
    A. apprvedB. neutralC. ppsedD. dubtful
    34. What’s the best title f the passage?
    A. Future Risk: Jbs Being Autmated
    B. Rbt Revlutin: Causes f Changes
    C. Wrkplace Autmatin: Rise f Rbts
    D Rbtizatin: Slutin t Unemplyment

根据第四段“In fact, cncerns abut mass unemplyment are verblwn. The evidence suggests rbts will be ultimately beneficial fr labr markets. Japan and Suth Krea have the highest rbt usage rate but very strng wrkfrces.(事实上,对大规模失业的担忧被夸大了。有证据表明,机器人最终将有利于劳动力市场。日本和韩国的机器人使用率最高,但劳动力非常强大。)”可知,作者在第四段段首首先提出自己的观点,然后紧接着用耶鲁大学和韩国银行研究人员提供的数据支持了这一观点。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“One suppsed example f “bad autmatin” is self-service checkuts in supermarkets, because they displace human wrkers. But rbts culd perfrm unpleasant wrk. Checkut staff wh retrain t help custmers pick items frm aisles(传送带)may find that dealing with peple in need is mre rewarding than spending all day swiping barcdes in frnt f lasers.(超市的自助结账是一个糟糕的自动化的例子,因为它们取代了人力。但是机器人可能会做出做令人不快的表现。收银员人员经过再培训,帮助客户从传送带拿取商品,他们发现帮助需要帮助的人比只是单纯的在扫描仪扫码结账更能感觉到自己的努力有所回报)”可知,收银人员更愿意与人打交道,更愿意帮助人。故选D。
    【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段第一句“They culd nt be cming at a better time.(他们来得正是时候。)”,第四段“In fact, cncerns abut mass unemplyment are verblwn.(事实上,对大规模失业的担忧被夸大了。)”以及最后一段“The ptential gains frm the rbt revlutin are huge.(机器人革命带来的潜在收益是巨大的。)” 故选A。
Rbts are leaving carefully managed industrial settings fr everyday life and, in the cming years, will increasingly wrk in supermarkets, clinics, scial care and much mre.(然而机器人正在离开精心管理的工业环境,进入日常生活。在未来几年,机器人将越来越多地在超市、诊所、社会护理等领域工作。)”和最后一段“The ptential gains frm the rbt revlutin are huge. In Capek’s play, the rbts revlt(反抗)against their human masters and cause mass unemplyment and wrse. Hwever, the beginnings f the wrld’s real rbts have nt matched Capek’s assumptin. S there is n need t cncern abut their future.(机器人革命带来的潜在收益是巨大的。恰佩克的假设中,机器人对抗人类并导致大规模失业。然而,世界上真正的机器人的诞生并不符合恰佩克的假设。所以没有必要担心他们的未来)”可知,本文主要讲述机器人在日常生活中的使用变多。故选C。

    【答案】35. E 36. D 37. A 38. B 39. G
空白后句以Or开头,表达了“we are willing t mve tward things that make us feel gd and away frm things that make us feel uncmfrtable.(我们愿意去做让自己感觉良好的事,而远离那些让自己不适的事情)”,这显然是与上一段文意顺承的,Or应作“或者”理解,即对空白句的另一种解释。
空白前句指出“Yet, we knw hard actins can bring benefits -nes that may nt be visible fr sme time.(不过,我们知道困难的行动会带来好处——这些好处可能短时间看不出来)”,A选项“想想开始一个新的锻炼日常”符合hard actins,且与下一句解释的“这样做是因为对自身的理解或是来自医生的要求”也是相符的。故选A项。
本段与下一段都是针对“hw d we d hard things when ur brains are cnstantly telling us t avid effrt?(当大脑不断地告诉我们不要努力时如何做好困难的事)”给出的建议。空白作为段首句,后面两句指出“A 2016 study fund that when peple are upset, they’ re less likely t try t d hard things. When they’re feeling upbeat, they’re mre likely t take n the hard-but-essential tasks that ultimately make life better. (2016年的一项研究发现当人们情绪低落时,不太可能会尝试做困难的事。当他们感到积极向上时,更有可能承担那些困难但重要的任务,最终会让生活变得更好)”,言下之意即困难的事务更适合在情绪良好时去完成,这与B选项“当你情绪良好时,去处理困难的事务”表达的含义相符。故选B项。
    【39题详解】
本段与下一段都是针对“hw d we d hard things when ur brains are cnstantly telling us t avid effrt?(当大脑不断地告诉我们不要努力时如何做好困难的事)”给出的建议。前两句指出“Give ur brains the right amunt f autnmy. When we have a chice, ur brains ften want smething easy.(给我们的大脑一定的自主权。当我们要作出选择时,我们的大脑往往会想要简单些的)”,G选项“但我们可以通过挑战自我减少这种反应,从而变得更有创意、更富动力”与前文构成转折,其中的that respnse呼应前文大脑的反应,符合针对做好困难的事给出的建议。故选G项。
