When TikTk vides emerged shwing “Taylr Swift” making a cin disappear and enjying a lllipp, the accunt name was the nly bvius clue that this wasn’t the real deal. A new study published in the Prceedings f the Natinal Academy f Sciences f the United States f America prvides a measure f hw far the technlgy has prgressed. The results suggest that real humans can easily fall fr machine-generated faces—and even interpret them as mre trustwrthy than the genuine article. “We fund that nt nly are synthetic （合成的）faces highly realistic, they are regarded mre trustwrthy than real faces,” says study c-authr Hany Farid, a prfessr at the University f Califrnia, Berkeley. The result raises cncerns that these faces culd be highly effective when used fr immral purpses.
After cmpiling 400 real faces matched t 400 synthetic versins, the researchers asked 315 peple t distinguish real frm fake amng a selectin f 128 f the images. The results suggest that real humans can easily fall fr machine-generated faces—and even interpret them as mre trustwrthy than the genuine article. “We fund that nt nly are synthetic （合成的）faces highly realistic, they are regarded mre trustwrthy than real faces,” says study c-authr Hany Farid, a prfessr at the University f Califrnia, Berkeley.
