In Sudan, a cuntry in Africa, Mack als faced sandstrms which made it hard fr him t see where he was ging. Mack battled strng winds and puring rain during his flight, but he never stpped smiling, jking and updating his flwers n his scial media accunt alng the way, and managed t expertly pilt his plane t safety.
And if Mack’s surname “Rutherfrd” sunds familiar, it’s because his elder sister Zara als flew arund the wrld earlier this year, and still hlds the female versin f the recrd! The Rutherfrd siblings (兄弟姐妹) were inspired by their parents t becme pilts. “I have knwn fr certain I wanted t fly since I was eleven,” Mack said, “My dad Sam is a prfessinal ferry pilt, my mum Beatrice is a recreatinal (娱乐的) private pilt.”

Animals might nt be able t speak r master advanced language techniques, but they certainly have ther ways f cmmunicating. Whale sng, wlf hwls, frg cries — even the fast dance f the hneybee r the friendly waves f a dg’s tail — are amng s many ways animals pass n infrmatin t each ther and t ther living things f the animal kingdm.
When it cmes t hearing cmmunicatin, nt every member f a species is just alike. Animals in different places have ften been sunding ff in different dialects. Fr example, ne study shws that blue whales prduce different types f sunds depending n where they are frm. Sme bird species are the same way. And what abut thse birds that live n the brder between territries (领地) f different sngbirds? They are ften able t cmmunicate in a way accepted by each f their grups f neighbrs.
Cmmunicatin between different species can play imprtant rles as well. One study shws that iguanas (鬣蜥蜴) d nt cmmunicate by making sund, but their well-develped ears help them hear well the warning calls f the flycatcher (a type f small bird). The tw species have nthing in cmmn except fr the fact that they share a general habitat and enemies. S when an iguana hears a bird make a signal f danger fr ther birds, it prbably knws t be watchful fr arriving enemies, t.
Hwever, as nise pllutin has becme a serius prblem all acrss the glbe, many animals are nw under fire. Increased shipping traffic ver the last century has greatly affected the spread f whale sng arund the cean basin. Studies have fund that sngbirds, t, suffer frm nisy city surrundings. Sme species have had t change their singing styles, prducing sngs that sund luder, in rder t be heard abve the nise. Their new vices usually lead t stranger and smewhat wrse styles f singing that female birds find decidedly less sexy.

If yu seek happiness, then yu need t knw what happiness is fr yu. I dn’t believe there is ne universal definitin f happiness. Happiness is a very subjective emtin, accrding t me. Put tw peple in identical situatin: same amunt f mney, life experiences, etc. and yu can be pretty sure that they bth wuldn’t feel equally happy r equally sad. I believe this is s because there are tw kinds f happiness. There is ne kind f happiness, which is kind f universal and then there is the ther kind, which is very individual t each ne f us. It is this kind f happiness that I find mre interesting.
The secnd kind f happiness that I talk abut cmes frm ur expectatins ut f ur lives, which vary frm persn t persn. Fr example, a persn wh expects a lt ut f his r her life may find that happiness is hard t find. They are cnstantly in search f these things in life, which always seem t elude (逃避) them. Thse things may be mney r fame r pwer r any f the ther pursuits (追求) that humans have, but it wuld be likely that such peple are less likely t be happy, if their gals are nt met. In mst cases, even after their gals are met, they dn’t find happiness, because they seek mre—new gals, new wish lists, and it’s a seemingly never-ending prcess fr them!
On the ther hand, a persn wh takes life as it cmes alng and makes the best f each day is mre likely t be happy every day. They have n pressure r gals t ccupy their minds and they can achieve happiness frm the simple pleasures f everyday life, finding lve, making time fr the family and kids, seeing their kids grw, etc. Of curse, that desn’t mean that yu shuldn’t have any expectatins at all. Yu shuld keep thse expectatins reasnable and manageable.
51. Which f the fllwing is the authr’s pinin accrding t Paragraph 1?
A. Happiness has ne universal definitin.
B. Every individual has his wn happiness.

D. Happiness means having mney and pwer.
52. What des the underlined part “these things” in Paragraph 2 prbably refer t?
A. Daily demands.B. Life experiences.
C. Ideas abut happiness.D. Expectatins ut f life.
53. Even if their gals are met, sme peple still dn’t feel happy because _________.
A. they gave t much fr their gals
B. they dn’t knw what happiness is
C. they have new gals that need achieving
D. they think sadness is a never-ending prcess
54. What kind f persn is likely t be happy in the authr’s pinin?
A. He wh has few expectatins.B. He wh has n pressure r gals.
C. He wh has a great ambitin r dream.D. He wh can find fun frm his daily life.
55. The authr writes this passage mainly t tell readers _________.
