As smene wh ften mans the 24-hur htline, I’m accustmed t early mrning calls reprting varius marine mammal strandings (搁浅). Even still, I dubt whether I culd have fully prepared fr this call. August 9 at 8:01 am was the first time my jaw physically drpped when manning the htline. The harbrmaster reprted 30 stranded dlphins in ne f the trickiest areas f Wellfleet. I immediately sent all wrkers we had and sent ut the call fr any additinal help we culd gather.
Our team gathered at ur Rescue Operatins Center, grabbing all the specialized equipment we pssibly culd. Our trained vlunteer respnders arrived n the scene shrtly after the initial reprt t give me updated infrmatin—45 dlphins in ttal, 43 f which were alive. With a stranding this large, it wasn’t feasible t pull all 43 animals frm the mud, get them t ur mbile veterinary clinic, and transprt them fr release at a mre favrable pen-cean lcatin all befre the tide came in. The day was getting htter, and the animals were already suffering frm bth heat and sun expsure.
Upn getting n the scene, there was n time t react t the sheer chas that lay ahead. After a quick scan f the situatin—45 animals widely distributed, nly a few staff members and several vlunteers—there wasn’t a secnd mre t wait. We began the hard prcess f getting as many animals as we culd int special slings (吊带), nt the cart, and ff the marsh as quickly as pssible. This was nt withut its wn challenges. The mud trapped and envelped ur feet, adding weight with each step, mst animals were highly fractius (易怒) when apprached, and the heat became unbearable in dry suits. But nne f that was ging t stp us frm ding all we culd fr these animals.

It is n accident that s many fairy tale characters find themselves having t crss dangerus areas f wdland. In a mst practical sense, as the ancients dreamed up thse stries and even when the ral traditins were finally written dwn in the middle ages and later, the lands f nrthern and western Eurpe were thick with wdland. The dangers were bvius: frm rbbers lying in wait fr unsuspecting travelers t pprtunistic wlves hungry fr the kill.
In many cultures, the frest is fr gd r ancestr wrship. In An Illustrated Encyclpaedia Of Traditinal Symbls, JC Cper writes, "Entering the Dark Frest r the Enchanted Frest is a threshld (门槛) symbl: the sul entering the dangers f the unknwn; the wrld f death; the secrets f nature, r the spiritual wrld which man must g thrugh t find the meaning.”
The frest is a place f magic then, magic that can be dangerus, but als a place f pprtunity and transfrmatin. In the tale f Beauty and the Beast, the merchant is directed by invisible frces within the frest t the Beast’s castle, nly then t be directed by invisible hands t his fate.
As fr Little Red Riding Hd, straying frm (偏离) the path and int the wds is similarly dangerus and filled with treachery (背叛). Symblically, thse wh lse their way in the uncharted frest are lsing their way in life, lsing tuch with their cnscius selves and vyaging int the state f the subcnscius.
And yet, in legends such as Rbin Hd, r the great Hindu lve stry f Rama and Sita, the frest becmes a hiding place. The frest prvides refuge (庇护) fr great heres wh after a perid f hard time cme back t fight fr justice. Their time in the frest culd perhaps be interpreted as a perid f persnal develpment.
Tday, still, wdland remains as a refuge frm institutinal rder, frm cntrl and limitatin f persnal freedm. Frests are places full f mystery, where imaginatin and the subcnscius can run free, where we can return t ur riginal selves.
28. What des the authr think f the wdland dangers in fairy tales?
A. They are created withut reasnable basis.
B. They are a reflectin f real-life dangers.
C. They differ greatly frm thse in real life.
D. They are apparent and can be easily avided.
29. What des JC Cper stress with her wrds in paragraph 2?
A. The hidden dangers in the frest.B. The symbls in different cultures.
C. The symblic meaning f the frest.D. The educatinal functins f the frest.
30. The wdland plays the rle f a shelter fr the her in ________.
A. Rama and SitaB. Beauty and the Beast
C. Little Red Riding Hd
D. An Illustrated Encyclpaedia Of Traditinal Symbls
31. Hw is the text develped?
A. By fllwing time rder.B. By giving examples.
C. By making cmparisns.D. By explaining a principle.

While they were still grwing up, kids are basically vacuums fr vcabulary. It is estimated that a nrmal kid at the age f 6 pssesses a remarkable vcabulary f abut thirteen thusand wrds!
That’s an amazing accmplishment because preliterate children just perceive spken wrds and d nt have a chance t wrk n thse wrds. Rather, they learn a fresh vcabulary every 2 hurs when awake, regularly. This is particularly extrardinary since the best effective ways fr mnemnic devices (记忆术) d nt assist with wrds individually.
A mnemnic has been a training methd that changes what we wish t recall t mre unfrgettable things. Fr instance, if yu desire t get an educatin n reading music, an easy apprach t learning the EGBDF has been recalling the sentence Every Gd By Deserves Fudge. Hwever, that desn’t apply t individual wrds. Due t the lack f simple methds t recall wrds, children’s brains need t have an inherent (固有的), strng structure fr fast learning a language.
But, as we becme lder, we start t miss thse remarkable skills. Every adult finds it difficult at the time f learning a different tngue, as the ability seems t decline with age. A psychlgist, Elisa Newprt, did research n peple wh immigrated (移民) t the US. She discvered that the peple wh immigrated in the age range f 3—7 had been as expert in the grammar f English as thse wh were US-brn. But thse wh arrived in the age range f 8—15, did much wrse.
A similar thing can be nticed at the time f learning the initial language. In the past, a small number f kids were raised with n human tuch, regularly as a result f negligence. They are called the “wlf children”, similar t “Genie”, the girl wh was fund at the age f 13 arund 1970. Since she was raised with n human tuch, she culd nt create even simple grammatical sentences.
32. Which wrd can best describe preliterate kids’ vcabulary learning?
A. Frmal.B. Cmplex.C. Cnsistent.D. Tugh.
33. What’s the disadvantage f the mnemnic in terms f music reading?
A. It can be easily frgtten by little kids.
B. It invlves nly letters and listening ability.
C. It is actually meaningless t mst peple.
D. It can’t be used t recall individual wrds.
34. What’s psychlgist Elisa Newprt’s new finding?
A. Peple’s language abilities decline as they age.
B. 3—7 is a better age range fr learning a new language.
C. Kids lse their interest in grammar as they grw lder.
D. Kids aged 8-15 can’t learn a freign language well.
35. What des Genie’s example seem t indicate?
A. It’s better t immigrate t learn a freign tngue.
B. It’s urgent t learn a language at the prper age.
C. Every animal pssesses a language f their wn.
D. A language can be acquired withut human tuch.

D yu wish yu culd create smething meaningful? D yu wish yu had the time t wrk n that thing yu’ve always wanted t prduce—that nvel, that piece f art and that passin prject? 36 Based n my experience, I’ve written a guide t get yu started.
Lk at yurself in the mirrr. It’s time fr yu t be hnest with yurself. Either yu’re accmplishing what yu want t accmplish r yu’re nt. 37 If it’s the latter, then yu must admit t yurself that yu are the nly persn preventing yu frm pursuing yur passin prject. 38 . Make a list f everything that distracts (使分心) yu. Surfing the net t much? Get rid f the Internet at hme. Are certain peple draining (耗尽) all yur time? Get rid f yur unpleasant relatinships. Are material pssessins getting in the way? Get rid f yur crap.
Stp wrrying. We tend t wrry abut the naysayers (拒绝者). Peple are ging t judge yu. Sme peple are ging t think what yu’re ding is stupid. Others will think yu’ve lst yur mind. 39 S, instead f thinking abut their pinins all the time, it’s time t rll up ur sleeves and get t wrk.
Change yur beliefs. One f the biggest reasns we dn’t accmplish what we set ut t accmplish is ur limiting beliefs. Fr years yu’ve tld yurself that yu’ll never be this, yu’ll never d that, r yu’ll never be gd enugh. But yu’re n different frm the peple wh have cnstructed their masterpieces. The peple wh create smething special—smething lasting—aren’t necessarily smarter r funnier r better r mre attractive than yu. 40 , and thrugh this belief they didn’t let anything stand in their way.
A. Stp making excuses
B. There is n in-between
C. Kill things getting in yur way
D. They simply believed they culd d it
E. N need t keep wishing yur life away
F. Hwever, their perspectives hld n significance

写作第一节(满分15分)
One pssible versin:
Dear classmates,
The saying I am recmmending is “Well begun is half dne”. The ld saying stresses the imprtance f the first step when we set ut t d smething. It means that nce we have begun a prject well, we are mre likely t make a success f it later.
I think there is a lt f truth in the saying. When we carry ut a plan and strive t d smething big, we must try ur best t succeed at the very beginning, because a gd beginning will give us cnfidence and will lead t success in the end. Dn’t yu agree with me?
Yurs,
Li Hua
