On March 7, 1907, the Englishstatistician Francis Galtn published a paper which illustrated what has cme t be knwn as the“wisdm f crwds”effect. The experiment f estimatin he cnducted shwed that in sme cases, the average f a large number f independent estimates culd be quite accurate.
This effect capitalizes n the fact that when peple make errrs, thse errrs aren't always the same. Sme peple will tend t verestimate, and sme t underestimate. When enugh f these errrs are averaged tgether, they cancel each ther ut, resulting in a mre accurate estimate. If peple are similar and tend t make the same errrs, then their errrs wn't cancel each ther ut. In mre technical terms, the wisdm f crwds requires that peple's estimates be independent. If fr whatever reasns, peple's errrs becme crrelated r dependent, the accuracy f the estimate will g dwn.
But a new study led by Jaquin Navajas ffered an interesting twist(转折) n this classic phenmenn. The key finding f the study was that when crwds were further divided int smaller grups that were allwed t have a discussin, the averages frm these grups were mre accurate than thse frm an equal number f independent individuals. Fr instance, the average btained frm the estimates f fur discussin grups f five was significantly mre accurate than the average btained frm 20 independent individuals.
In a fllw-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried t get a better sense f what the grup members actually did in their discussin. Did they tend t g with thse mst cnfident abut their estimates? Did they fllw thse least willing t change their minds? This happened sme f the time, but it wasn't the dminant respnse. Mst frequently, the grups reprted that they “shared arguments and reasned tgether”.Smehw, these arguments and reasning resulted in a glbal reductin in errr. Althugh the studies led by Navajas have limitatins and many questins remain, the ptential implicatins fr grup discussin and decisin-making are enrmus.
24.What is paragraph 2 f the text mainly abut?
    A. The methds f estimatin.
    B. The underlying lgic f the effect.
    C. The causes f peple's errrs.
    D. The design f Galtn's experiment.
25.Navajas' study fund that theaverage accuracy culd increase even if _.
    A. the crwds were relatively small
    B. there were ccasinal underestimates
    C. individuals did nt cmmunicate
    D. estimates were nt fully independent
26.What did the fllw-up study fcusn?
    A. The size f the grups.
    B. The dminant members.
    C. The discussin prcess.
    D. The individual estimates.
27.What is the authr's attitude twardNavajas' studies?
    A. Unclear. B. Dismissive. C. Dubtful. D. Apprving.

Imagine this. Yu need an imagef a balln fr a wrk presentatin and turn t an Al text-t- image generatr, like Midjurney r DALL-E, t create a suitable image. Yu enter the prmpt (提示词)“red balln against a blue sky”but the generatr return s an image f an egg instead.
What's ging n? The generatr yu're using may have been“pisned”. What des this mean? Text-t-image generatrs wrk by being trained n large databasets that include millins r billins f images. Sme f the generatrs have been trained by indiscriminately scraping nline images, many f which may be under . This has led t many cpyright infringement(侵害) cases where artists have accused big tech cmpanies f stealing and prfiting frm their wrk.
This is als where the idea f“pisn”cmes in. Researchers wh want t empwer individual artists have recently created a tl named“Nightshade”t fight back against unauthrised image scraping. The tl wrks by slightly altering an image's pixels (像素) in a way that cnfuses the cmputer visin system but leaves the image unaltered t a human's eyes. If an rganizatin then scrapes ne f these images t train a future AI mdel, its data pl becmes“pisned”. This can result in mistaken learning, which makes the generatr return unintended results. As in ur earlier example,a balln might becme an egg.
The higher the number f“pisned”images in the training data, the greater the impact. Because f hw generative AI wrks, the damage frm“pisned”images als affects related prmpt keywrds. Fr example, if a“pisned”image f a Picass wrk is used in training data, prmpt results fr masterpieces frm ther artists can als be affected.
Pssibly, tls like Nightshade can be abused by sme users t intentinally uplad “pisned”images in rder t cnfuse Algeneratrs. But the Nightshade's develper hpes the tl will make big tech cmpanies mre respectful f . It des challenge a cmmn belief amng cmputer scientists that data fund nline can be used fr any purpse they see fit.
Human rights activists, fr example, have been cncerned fr sme time abut the indiscriminate use f machine visin in wider sciety. This cncern is particularly serius cncerning facial recgnitin. There is a clear cnnectin between facial recgnitin cases and data pisning, as bth relate t larger questins arund technlgical gvernance. It may be better t see data pisning as an innvative slutin t the denial f sme fundamental human rights.
    28.The underlined wrd“scraping”(para.2) is clsest in meaning t .
    A. facilitating B. cllecting C. damaging D. plishing
29.Accrding t the passage, adding pisned data might _.
    A. increase the accuracy f returned infrmatin
    B. cause users t frget the prmpt key wrds
    C. interfere with the training f generative AI
    D. discriminate against great masterpieces
30.What can be inferred frm the last tw paragraphs?
    A. Data pisning is smehw justified t direct attentin t human rights.
    B. Cmputer scientists has learned t respect the f mst artists.
    C. Nightshade is being abused by human rights activists t recgnize faces.
    D. The issue f technlgical gvernance has arused the lawyers' interest.
31.Which f the fllwing might be the best title f the passage?
    A. Data Pisning: Gvernment Empwering Citizens t Prtect Themselves
    B. Data Pisning: Addressing Facial Recgnitin Issues Amng Artists
    C. Data Pisning: Risks and Rewards f Generative AI Data Training
    D. Data Pisning: Restricting Innvatin r Empwering Artists

It seems he might have been lst in a fantasy wrld that ultimately cnvinced himself int believing the digital self culd bey different rules and regulatins, as if he culd cntinually push the limits f what's acceptable withut facing the cnsequences f“real life.”
