Wheelchair tennis champ Kunieda wn the men's Australian Open nce mre n Thursday, beating a player frm the United Kingdm. Diede Grt wn the wmen's wheelchair finals by defeating Aniek van Kt.

Steve Davies, a 23-year-ld bard designer in Wales, is develping a surfbard made frm mycelia (菌丝体) instead f plastic.
A 2022 reprt shwed that mre than 400, 000 bards are made each year. The glbal market fr surfbards reached $2.2 billin in 2020 and is expected t reach $3.2 billin by 2027. But abut 80% f bards are made frm plastic, which can take hundreds f years t break dwn. This will be a serius prblem fr the envirnment as the market grws.
“And even when it des break dwn, it can g int fish’s ecsystem (生态系统), which means that humans will end up eating this plastic,” Davies said.
Davies made his first surfbard in 2020, but the experience shwed him many harmful materials were prduced in making each bard. During his final year at university, he started lking int mycelia and making his belved sprt mre envirnment-friendly.
“My family wns a farm with hrses, s I was quickly able t cllect substrate material (基料) in the frm f hrse bedding, t allw the mycelia t grw in,” Davies explained. “This gave me an idea t start a surfbard business—grwing surfbards n a farm near the beach and using waste materials frm that very same farm, reducing the transprt f materials, and therefre reducing carbn (碳) given ut int the envirnment.”

Steve Davies, a 23-year-ld bard designer in Wales, is develping a surfbard made frm mycelia (菌丝体) instead f plastic.
A 2022 reprt shwed that mre than 400, 000 bards are made each year. The glbal market fr surfbards reached $2.2 billin in 2020 and is expected t reach $3.2 billin by 2027. But abut 80% f bards are made frm plastic, which can take hundreds f years t break dwn. This will be a serius prblem fr the envirnment as the market grws.

Davies made his first surfbard in 2020, but the experience shwed him many harmful materials were prduced in making each bard. During his final year at university, he started lking int mycelia and making his belved sprt mre envirnment-friendly.
“My family wns a farm with hrses, s I was quickly able t cllect substrate material (基料) in the frm f hrse bedding, t allw the mycelia t grw in,” Davies explained. “This gave me an idea t start a surfbard business—grwing surfbards n a farm near the beach and using waste materials frm that very same farm, reducing the transprt f materials, and therefre reducing carbn (碳) given ut int the envirnment.”
