    Last summer Shanya was sad after a fire happened in a restaurant in her Califrnia neighbrhd. S the middle-schler gt straight t wrk.
    “I had never really experienced smething like that befre,” she said f the early mrning fire at Hlder's Cóuntry Inn, which was reprted t have started in the kitchen. N ne was hurt, but the restaurant was demlished. “It hit clse t my heart because it was part f my cmmunity.”
    Shanya created a tl that uses thermal imaging (热成像) t detect when a heat surce (来源) —
    such as a gas burner — is left unattended (无人看管的) fr 10 minutes. Her gal, she said, was t design an early warning system that is better than a standard smke detectr.
    Shanya recently wn the tp prize at the Therm Fisher Scientific Junir Innvatrs Challenge in D.C., in part fr her fire-detectin device. Judges were impressed by her fire detectin system, featuring a thermal camera and a Raspberry Pi, a small cmputer bard.
    Creating the prttype (原型) was nt easy, Shanya said. “I had really big difficulties with my prject,
    and almst all f them were related t cde ( 编 码 ),” she said. “I had tw designs, and my first design cmpletely failed."
