Fr years, I played arund with writing. I wrte when I felt like it. Then ne day, a friend asked me what my dream was. When I said it was t be a writer, he said these wrds that changed my life, “Yu dn’t have t want t be a writer. Yu are a writer; yu just need t write.” S I started calling myself a writer. Everywhere I went, I intrduced myself as “Jeff Gins, Writer,” and even put it in email signatures and n my Facebk page. And yu knw what? I started acting like it. Eventually, I even began t believe it. It turns ut that smetimes yu d have t fake it befre yu make it.
The lessn here is simple: If yu wait fr smene t give yu permissin t start fllwing yur dream, yu’ll be waiting fr a lng time. Yu have t begin befre yu think yu’re ready.
After I decided t pursue my dream, I still had t find the time t d it. Wrking a full-time jb and having a wife and ther things t d, I didn’t have enugh free time. I had t find time t write. Fr me, that meant getting up early. Like, 5:00 a.m. early. Every mrning, I wuld wake up, get my cffee, and write fr tw hurs. At first, this was difficult; I had t frce myself ut f bed and dwnstairs befre the sun rse. But eventually, it became a habit. I did it withut even thinking abut it. And sn, what started as a discipline became a daily jy.
By ding this, I learned the excuse I had given myself — “I dn’t have enugh time” — wasn’t true. I did have enugh time; it was just hiding in “incnvenient” places.
These days, mst peple I meet are talking abut their dreams. Hwever, they’re ding it all wrng. They think they need t take a huge leap ut int the unknwn when, in fact, the ppsite is true. S if yu have a dream, just take actin. And dn’t say yu dn’t have time fr it.

Frm the rar f a crwd t the quiet f a library, sund and silence might seem like plar ppsites. Hwever, accrding t a new research, ur brains perceive them in the same way. Silence may nt be a sund, but scientists say we can truly hear it.
In this new study, researchers examined hw peple experience silence using well-knwn auditry illusins (错觉). The illusins are meant t test the perceptin f nise, but fr the study, the team adapted them t measure peple’s respnse t silence, instead.
“If yu can get the same illusins with silences as yu get with sunds, then that may be bvius that we literally hear silence after all.” Chaz Firestne, a c-authr f the study and cgnitive scientist at Jhns Hpkins University, says in a statement.
In the study, participants were tricked by these “silence illusins” in a similar way t hw peple are typically fled by the sund versins f the experiments.
The researchers prepared seven experiments and tested them n 1,000 study participants. In ne experiment, researchers played a recrding that sunded like backgrund nise in a crwded place. In the first half f the recrding, the backgrund nise was interrupted by tw separate perids f silence. In the secnd half, ne cntinuus perid f silence was inserted (嵌入). Researchers asked participants which silence felt lnger- the cmbinatin f the first tw perids f silence, r the secnd uninterrupted ne. Mst participants thught the cntinuus silence was lnger, but it was actually the same length as the tw shrter silences cmbined.
These results were cnsistent with previus research that examined auditry illusins, which used tw separate sunds and ne cntinuus sund. With that illusin, peple als perceived the cntinuus sund as lnger than the tw separate nes tgether.
Similar findings acrss the seven experiments suggested that humans experience silence and sund in much the same way: They can distrt (扭曲) ur perceptin f time.

    D. Participants chse a recrding and played it.
10.Where is this text mst likely frm?
    A. A diary.B. A jurnal.C. A nvel.D. A guidebk.
11.What is the best title fr the text?

    B. Sund and silence are actually the same.
    C. Auditry illusins affect ur perceptin ability.

The team, led by Steven Rsenberg, an immune(免疫的) treatment pineer, had sequenced her cancer cells’ DNA t analyze the sudden change. The team als remved a sampling f immune cells and tested them t see which nes recgnized her cancer cells' genetic faults. The scientists reprduced the winning immune cells by the billins and put them int Perkins t attack her cancer cells. Mre than tw y cars later. Perkins, a retired engineer frm Flrida, shws n signs f cancer.
Thirty years ag, scientists thught that it wuld be impssible t understand ur genetic rules and sequence the 3.2 billin pairs f different elements in ur DNA. “It was like yu were talking fairytales,” Kurzrck said. “The cnventinal wisdm was that it wuld never happen. Never And then in 2003, never was ver.”

The illusins are meant t test the perceptin f nise, but fr the study, the team adapted them t measure peple’s respnse t silence, instead.(在这项新的研究中,研究人员研究了人们是如何使用众所周知的听觉错觉来体验沉默的。这些错觉是为了测试人们对噪音的感知,但在这项研究中,研究小组把它们改造成测量人们对沉默的反应)”可知,研究人员在这项新研究中使用听觉错觉是为了衡量人们对沉默的反应。故选C。
    9.答案:A
解析:推理判断题。根据第四段“In the study, participants were tricked by these “silence illusins” in a similar way t hw peple are typically fled by the sund versins f the experiments.(在这项研究中,参与者被这些“沉默错觉”所欺骗,其方式与人们通常被声音版本的实验所欺骗的方式相似)”以及第五段“Mst participants thught the cntinuus silence was lnger, but it was actually the same length as the tw shrter silences cmbined.(大多数参与者认为连续的沉默更长,但实际上它的长度与两个较短的沉默的总和相同)”可推知,沉默的幻觉愚弄人的大脑。故选A。
    11.答案:A
解析:主旨大意题。根据第一段“Frm the rar f a crwd t the quiet f a library, sund and silence might seem like plar ppsites. Hwever, accrding t a new research, ur brains perceive them in the same way.
