The Califrnia fires include sme that rank amng the largest ever seen in the state. They fllwed a heatwave that caused blackuts, with Death Valley Natinal Park hitting 54.4℃ in August, the highest temperature ever recrded n Earth.
“Exceptinally ht weather ver the past tw weeks certainly played an imprtant rle in drying ut vegetatin t this extreme degree,” says Daniel Swain at the University f Califrnia, Ls Angeles. There are several unusual aspects t the current fires. Climate change is almst certainly at wrk in Califrnia t. “It is perfectly clear that climate change is increasing the likelihd and intensity f heatwaves in Califrnia,” says Swain.
Althugh the Califrnia Department f Frestry and Fire Prtectin had 14,000 peple fighting the fires, bservers say it is impssible t have enugh crews t stp fires this big.

第61题 空白处填入 althugh/thugh 。
