When scientists and the public wrry abut sea level rise, they mstly fcus n when and where cmmunities will be permanently flded. It's a threat that sciety has nt paid nearly enugh attentin t, says Allisn Reilly, a civil engineer at the University f Maryland.
In a new paper, Reilly and her clleagues shw the width and pace f the islatin(隔离) threat. Inspired by her wrk n the eastern shre f Maryland, where peple already need t adjust their travel and wrk schedules t accunt fr tides that frequently fld rads, Reilly and her clleagues calculated that, with ne meter f sea level rise, twice as many peple acrss the castal United States will be islated than will be fully flded.
Wrse still, many places currently cnsidered at lw risk f sea level rise suddenly becme much riskier when islatin is taken int accunt, Reilly says. While planners knw that lw-lying Flrida will be severely flded, Maine, with its high rcky casts, is generally thught t be at lw risk. But Reilly's wrk shws many Mainers are in great danger f being cut ff by flding in castal cmmunities and river valleys.
This far mre immediate effect f rising seas needs t becme part f the brader planning prcess. That kind f planning is starting t happen arund the Chignect Isthmus, an interprvincial land bridge in Canada, cnnecting New Brunswick and Nva Sctia. The New Brunswick and Nva Sctia gvernments are cnsidering a variety f plans t raise r replace the dikes(坝). Fr Ollerhead, a Nva Sctian, that wrk can't start sn enugh. "It will take a lt f sea level rise befre Nva Sctia becmes an island, but yu culd have a strm that cuts ff the majr transprtatin links fr days, weeks, r mnths," he says. We tend t think f large cities as melting pts—places where peple frm all srts f backgrunds can mix and interact. But accrding t new research, peple in big cities tend t primarily interact with ther individuals in the same sciecnmic bracket(阶层), but peple in small cities and rural areas are much mre likely t have diverse interactins.

The gd news is that there are ways t build cities t prmte mre sciecnmic mixing. Lking at large cities, the researchers fund that thse that placed frequently-visited hubs(中心)in between different neighbrhds—instead f in the center f each neighbrhd—were less separated.
"These big cities have managed t develp diverse interactins because the hubs that peple visit the mst-which turn ut t be shpping centers, squares, and similar places-are between rich and pr neighbrhds," said Hamed Nilfrshan, a dctral researcher at Stanfrd University. "Thse hubs act as bridges, allwing peple t see each ther and interact."

    33. Hw was the research carried ut?
    A. By bridging the incme brackets.
    B. By studying the frequency f interactin.
    C. By cmparing residents' behavir patterns.
    D. By cllecting data n peple's scial ranks.
    34. What shuld city planners d t prmte sciecnmic mixing?
    A. Psitin the hubs prperly. B. Cnstruct mre shpping centers.
    C. Cntrl the urban expansin. D. Design unique residential neighbrhds.
    35. What is the best title fr the text?
    A. Incme Bracket: What t D with It?
    B. Diverse Interactins Cunt in Big Cities
    C. Sciecnmic Separatin: Hw t Fix It?

根据画线词后的“but I knew that fllwing thrugh n helping my girl create a new space fr herself wuld mean a lt t her. S, I wrked up my curage.”
根据第三段中的“I didn't want her t miss ut n the wnderful feeling f cmpetence that cmes frm trying smething yu want t d but fear yu might nt be able t d.”
Instead f being an authrity with all the answers, I learned with her. I shwed my daughter what learning lks like, in all its messy glry. That's definitely the best part I'll treasure.”
故选 A。

根据第一段中的“But there's anther cnsequence f rising seas that will affect many mre peple much sner: getting cut ff frm rads and ther critical infrastructure. It's a threat that sciety has nt paid nearly enugh attentin t, says Allisn Reilly"可知, 海平面上升的另一个后果将更快地影响到更多的人: 切断人们与道路和其他关键基础设施的联系。
故选A。
Wrse still, many places currently cnsidered at lw risk f sea level rise suddenly becme much riskier when islatin is taken int accunt"可知, 许多目前被认为海平面上升风险较低的地方, 一旦考虑到隔离的风险, 其危险性就会突然上升; 再根据下文“While planners knw that lw-lying Flrida will be severely flded…being cut ff by flding in castal cmmunities and river valleys.” 故选A
Fr Ollerhead, a Nva Sctian, that wrk can't start sn enugh.”

根据第一段中的“But accrding t new research…much mre likely t have diverse interactins.”
故选A。

故选 A
    39. D 根据上一段中的"why nt make it a Rice Bucket Challenge t fight hunger?" I shared it n Facebk and said, 'This is a Rice Bucket Challenge. Why dn't yu d it, t?'”
