Lu Xun is ne f the greatest Chinese writers f the 20th century. Besides his famus stries, he als wrte many influential articles abut the living cnditins f Chinese peple.
Brn in 1881 t a wealthy family, Lu Xun had a happy childhd. In 1893, hwever, his grandfather, a senir gvernment fficial, was put int prisn fr taking mney. At the same time, his father became seriusly ill. Frm that time n, his family were n lnger accepted by their relatives and friends. These early experiences greatly influenced his writing.
By the time Lu Xun arrived in Nanjing t study at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese sciety had t change and becme mdern. In 1902 he went t study in Japan. There, he began writing articles fr several Chinese student magazines. He shwed a gift fr writing and translating and he even wrte several bks, althugh nne was ppular. He returned t China in 1909 because he was in need f mney.
After wrking fr several years as a teacher in Beijing, Lu Xun again returned t writing. In 1918, he wrte his famus shrt stry Diary f a Madman. It was the first Chinese nvel published using the everyday language that peple spke, which helped make it a great success. This, tgether with his nvel The True Stry f Ah Q （1921）, made Lu Xun a leading Chinese writer.
Althugh successful, Lu Xun still wrried greatly abut China’s future. In 1926, he mved t Shanghai and gave up writing stries in rder t devte himself t what he called “pen warfare”. In Du Fu’s teens, his family was rich enugh t allw him t g traveling. China then was at the height f wealth under the amazing emperr Xuanzng f Tang. Amng all the places Du Fu visited, there was a special ne—Qufu (孔子). The teachings f Cnfucius were Du Fu’s basic ideas all his life. Fr Du Fu, his main gal f life was t help the emperr realize scial stability. There were n big r sudden changes and peple lived happily and wrked withut fighting r disagreeing with ne anther. But hwever much he wanted t achieve the gal, he was cmpletely helpless. His dream f using pwer and fame was brken int a thusand pieces.
When Du Fu was abut 30, came the meeting that changed his life with the pet Li Bai. Li Bai gave him a lt f inspiratin in the art f petry. But their pems were different. Li Bai’s pems were usually abut nature, while Du Fu’s generally dealt with themes such as histry and hw peple must live accrding t Cnfucianism.
