The Starry Night was painted in June 1889 when Vincent van Ggh was staying at a hme fr the mentally ill. Van Ggh painted what he saw frm his windw－the night sky with cluds，stars and a mn. Hwever，he didn′t just paint the cluds. He als painted the massive circles f white and yellw racing acrss the sky. The stars and the mn hang bright in the night sky.
His unusual use f clur has led experts t think that Van Ggh′s mental illness may have affected his sense f sight. He als tk a drug that can make peple see yellw spts， just like the stars in The Starry Night.
Beneath this amazing sky，we see a sleeping village and a dark，lnely tree.
Unfrtunately，Van Ggh′s unique paintings weren′t very ppular and he nly sld ne painting in his lifetime. He als thught The Starry Night was a failure. Hwever，the fact remains that The Starry Night is nw ne f the wrld′s mst famus paintings.
The Scream was painted by Edvard Munch in 1893. What makes it striking is that it shws a thin figure with an expressin f fear－the figure′s muth is wide pen and letting ut a pwerful scream. The figure cvers his r her ears and lks directly at the viewer，This figure is set n a bridge abve a dark, strmy sea，and against a burningrange-red sky。
In his diary，Munch talked abut what inspired him. “I was walking dwn the rad with tw friends when the sun set；suddenly the sky turned as red as bld···I std there shaking. Then I heard the scream f nature.”
Many experts say that The Scream is cnnected t Munch′s mental health prblems，which caused him a lt f pain.
The Empire f Light is amng a series f paintings by Belgian artist Rene Magritte between 1953 and 1954. He painted the same scene 27 times. It shws a beautiful huse lit by lights frm inside，surrunded by the darkness f night. What is strange is that abve the huse and the tree，we see a daytime sky full f brightness and sft white cluds. It seems like quite a mysterius scene.
