Germany has pened a special electric highway fr trucks — e-Highway.
Trucks are a large surce f carbn emissins(碳排放). But nt many cuntries are lking fr ways t reduce pllutin frm trucks. Sme cmpanies are explring electric trucks. These are better fr the envirnment than nrmal trucks, but ging lng distances is a challenge. Usually batteries wear ut t quickly.
S hybrid trucks (油电混合动力卡车) came ut t save the day. They can run n diesel (柴油) fuel r electricity. Germany’s e-Highway system allws hybrid trucks t travel much farther n electricity. The system was built by a cmpany called Siemens. It has already tried ut similar systems in Califrnia and Sweden.
The trucks have special rds. They can rise up t tuch the electric cables (电缆). Then the trucks are pwered cmpletely by electricity. At the same time, their batteries are being recharged. Trucks can recharge while driving at a speed as fast as 90 kph (千米/小时). After the truck is recharged, it can lwer the rds and leave the charging lane t rejin regular traffic n the highway.
Siemens believes the system culd save a hybrid truck abut $22,000 in fuel csts ver a distance f abut 100,000 kilmeters.
Germany believes 80% f the cuntry’s truck traffic culd sn run n electricity. Lwering carbn emissins is ne f the main gals f the new e-Highway prject. Germany plans t cut carbn emissins by 55% by 2030.

One plus ne equals(等于)tw. There are 60 secnds in ne minute. Sixty minutes equals ne hur. There are 24 hurs in ne day. One year includes 365 days. These are all basic(基本的)facts that we knw by heart. But have yu ever stpped t think hw numbers came int being(产生)and hw they develped?
It’s safe t say that ur sciety wuld never develped withut numbers. Hwever, the develpment f numbers is still a puzzle t us. That’s because when ancient peple develped simple ways f cunting, they didn’t leave any recrds behind.
It’s nt difficult t guess that numbers and cunting began with the number “1”, thugh ancient peple prbably didn’t call it “ne”. They likely cunted by nes and recrded by carving(刻)lines n a bne.
The earliest evidence(证据)f this is the Ishang Bne(伊尚戈骨), which was fund in 1960 in Africa. The bne is believed t be mre than 20,000 years ld. It has many lines n it. The lines lk like what we wuld call “tally marks”(以5为单位的计数方法)tday. Scientists think thse lines shw hw ancient peple used numbers.
    34. Where was the Ishang Bne fund?
    A. In China.B. In Africa.C. In Egypt.D. In India.
    35. Accrding t the article, we still dn’t knw ________.

    A. Because peple tday are nt smart enugh t find it ut.
    B. Because peple tday are nt interested in any way f cunting.
    C. Because ancient peple didn’t want t develp a way f cunting.
    D. Because ancient peple didn’t recrd their ways f cunting.
    37. What can we infer(推断)frm the passage?
    A. The Ishang Bne was fund 2000 years ag. B. There are many numbers n the Ishang Bne.
    C. Numbers are imprtant t a sciety’s develpment.
    D. Ancient peple carved lines n the stnes as a way f cunting.
    C
Can dgs and cats get alng well in the same hme? Peple wh are thinking abut getting a dg as a friend fr their cat are wrried that they will fight. A recent research has fund that if the cat is taken back hme befre the dg, and if they are intrduced when still yung (less than 6 mnths fr cats, a year fr dgs), it is highly pssible that the tw pets will get alng swimmingly. In tw-thirds f the hmes, cats and dgs have a gd relatinship.
Hwever, it wasn’t all sweetness. There was a reprted cldness between the cat and dg in 25% f the hmes, while aggressin (侵略,好斗) and fighting were fund in 10% f the hmes. One reasn fr this is prbably that sme f their bdy languages are just different. Fr example, when a cat turns its head away it means aggressin, while a dg ding the same means submissin (顺从).
In hmes with cats and dgs living peacefully, researchers fund a surprising behavir. They are learning hw t talk in each ther’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn hw t talk “Dg”, and dgs can learn hw t talk “Cat”.
What’s interesting is that bth cats and dgs have seemed t becme smarter. They can learn t read each ther’s bdy languages, shwing that the tw may have mre in cmmn than was expected. Once familiar with each ther’s bdy language, cats and dgs can play tgether, and enjy sleeping tgether n the sfa.
The imprtance f this research n cats and dgs may g beynd pets — t peple wh dn’t get alng well, including neighburs, wrkmates at wrk, and even cuntries. If cats and dgs can learn t get alng, surely peple have a gd chance.

Did yu knw that almst 8 millin tns f plastic enter ur ceans every year? There are many factrs that cntribute t this pllutin, including micrfibers. They have been fund in shrelines, seaflrs, and even snw. In additin, micrfibers can als be fund in human waste. Studies shw that we are cnstantly expsed t micrplastic thrugh ur fd, ur water, and even the air we breathe.
Micrfibers are tiny synthetic fibers that are created frm small bits f plastic. They make up materials such as plyester, rayn, nyln, and acrylic and are the mst cmmn type f micrplastic fund in the envirnment.
The grwing ppularity f this material dates back t the early 1990s. Swedish manufacturers prduced a variety f these materials, making it ne f the mst ppular in Eurpe. By the early2000s, items made f micrfiber became ppular wrldwide. The material was-and sill is-cheap, highly durable (耐用的), and water-resistant. Because f these features, it is used fr a variety f reasns, such as cleaning, hmeware, clthes, and accessries.
Unluckily, when these synthetic items are washed, they release micrfibers. Washing ne lad f synthetic clthes can release millins f fibers. Althugh wastewater treatment factries catch mst f these fibers, sme pass thrugh because f their small size, entering ur waterways and plluting the envirnment. They are als difficult t cllect and clean, s it is imprtant t prevent them frm entering the envirnment in the first place.
    Hw Can We Help?
Frtunately, preventin starts right at hme! Research has cncluded that there are many ways t reduce the spread f micrfibers. Sme include the fllwing:
    ● Reducing the washing f synthetic material
    ● Air-drying clthes als saves energy and reduces water cnsumptin
    ● Aviding half-lads f laundry ● Using a frnt-lading washing machine
It’s a cmmn misunderstanding that wearing cttn instead f synthetic material is envirnmentally friendly. Researchers claim that cttn clthes ften release (释放) chemicals, which is anther cause f harm t the envirnment. Ultimately, scientists therize that develping better materials is the best slutin.
Althugh these slutins prevent the spread f micrfibers, they d nt cmpletely get rid f the nes already in the envirnment. Luckily, cmpanies in the apparel industry as well as NGOs and researchers are actively trying t develp technlgy t clean ur ceans and the envirnment. Fr nw, we all can take small steps t d ur part in restring ur beautiful planet.
    42. What are micrfibers?
    A. They are created frm small bits f plastics. B. They are made up f materials like rayn and nyln.
    C. They are highly durable, water-resistant and expensive.
    D. They are the mst cmmn type f natural micrplastic.
    43. What des the underlined wrd in paragraph 4 refer t?
    A. Clthes.B. Factries.C. Micrfibers.D. Waterways
    44. Which f the fllwing is NOT the way t reduce the spread f micrfibers?
    A. Avid half-lads f laundry.B. Wash synthetic material less.
    C. Chse a frnt-lading washing machine.D. Wear cttn instead f synthetic material.
    45. Which f the fllwing wrds can best describe the writer’s pinin?
