Taste is such a subjective matter that we dn’t usually cnduct preference tests fr fd. The mst yu can say abut anyne’s preference is that it’s ne persn’s pinin. But because the tw big cla cmpanies-Cca-Cla and Pepsi Cla-are marketed s aggressively, we’ve wndered hw big a rle taste preference actually plays in brand lyalty. We set up a taste test that challenged peple wh identified themselves as either Cca-cla r Pepsi fans: Find yur brand in a blind tasting.
We invited staff vlunteers wh had a strng liking fr either Cca-Cla Classic r Pepsi, Diet Cke, r Diet Pepsi. These were peple wh thught they’d have n truble telling their brand frm the ther brand.

Fr their study, researchers cnducted lab studies where they reprduced the effects f artificial light pllutin with butterflies using a flight simulatr (模拟器).
“The flight simulatr is like a butterfly treadmill (跑步机), in which we can study the flight behavir f insects in cntrlled, experimental cnditins. We first tested if mnarchs treated a single, artificial light surce as if it were the actual sun during the day,” Guerra says.
“Once we established that they did, we then tested hw the mnarchs wuld behave when expsed t this same artificial light surce during their night.”
Butterflies stayed quiet and unmving when they were first placed in the flight simulatr in the dark. But as sn as scientists turned n the light, they started flying. The light made them believe that night was day and this can cause them t fly lnger at night r start flying t early.
The study has fund that the internal circadian (昼夜) clck f butterflies functins nrmally when they are expsed t natural day night lighting cycles, but artificial light, such as a streetlight, at night can thrw ff a mnarch butterfly’s internal cmpass.
